Itinerary
Meet your guide in central Granada, and set off into UNESCO-protected Albayzín, one of the city’s most historical quarters.
Covering a hill facing the Alhambra Palace, this quaint neighbourhood forms Granada’s medieval heart, and consists of old Moorish and Andalucian buildings clustered around labyrinthine cobbled streets.
Learn about Albayzín’s 11th-century roots, and meander through the picturesque lanes to admire the whitewashed houses with their flower-filled balconies, as well as churches, squares, and fountains. Pass landmarks like the old city gates and other Moorish remnants, and drink in panoramic views of the Alhambra atop the neighboring hill.
Next, continue to the Sacromonte district to the east of Albayzín. This fascinating quarter is home to Granada’s Roma gypsies, who first arrived here in the 15th century, and is famed for its underground, rock-cut homes.
Follow the cobbled path around the hillside, and see some of the traditional caves where gypsies and others still live. Many are now flamenco bars and tiny museums that showcase the traditional lifestyles, arts, and handicrafts of the original cave dwellers.
Admire the city views from here, and after 2.5 hours’ exploring, bid goodbye to your guide, bringing your tour to a close.

We gained information about the general area & it’s rich history plus lots of facts about buildings & architecture that we would have simply just walked passed & missed.

There are a lot of hills to climb. The guide walked fast and we were unable to keep up. We stopped after a half an hour. Be better if Viator rated the level of the activity required on there activities

Excellent work for guy. Beautiful scenery around of the city. Good history about the civilizations through the centuries.

The guide was very knowledgeable and made the walk through the two neighborhoods enjoyable. The major drawback was the size of the group. We were too many to hear the guide. If she had used a microphone and we had listening devices, the tour would have been much, much better.

Our guide, Irene was extraordinary- so friendly, well informed, responsive to the energy of our group (only 6 people!) and she shared several personal experiences. We would ask for her in the future!!! Muchas gracias!
We met at P.l Isabel católica- very easy to find! Our guide arrived before the appointment time 5pm and gathered us altogether. The time was perfect as it was not in the heat of the day! The walk is quite strenuous; however, Irene kept checking in with us and give us lots of opportunities to rest. It’s important that you’re comfortable with climbing stairs and walking on cobblestones- Can be tricky. You may be a little sore the next day - but so worth the effort!!

Our tour guide, Arina, was lovely, she had so much knowledge which she shared with us with humour. The stories and facts she told us were so interesting. I really enjoyed this walking tour and the three other people who also on the walk with me made it fun too!

Excellent and informative. I highly recommend this tour. I wish that I could remember the guide's name. She was wonderful. This tour was in June 2022.

Marco gave us a fantastic tour of Albayzin and Sacromonte. We really appreciated his knowledge and love of the neighborhood and the tips he gave us about what to see on other days. There were also extra treats he arranged, such as a visit to a cave house and a special entry to see a Flamenco Cave venue. So special. Thank you Marco!!!
David_H, May 2023
Wow. Our guide for this walking tour was superb - very engaging, happy to chat with all our group and make sure that we were involved.
His commentary was terrific, with lots of information which linked the past and the present.
A great way to spend an evening in the Albaicin and Sacromonte districts.

Knowledgeable and amusing guide. Had a much better appreciation of the history of the area. Got far more out of my stay.

Amazing. The tour guide carmen was very knowledgeable and gave us her best. Loved it. It’s a king walk but all worth it

Juana gave us an incredibly informed account of the history of Grenada the city, Spain the empire, and the struggle of the Gypsy people.
She has a staggering amount of knowledge, as well as passion for the culture of this place. This was probably the best spent money of my whole trip. I could go on and on. Would absolutely recommend.

Really pleased we used Viator as helped us understand what we were seeing. We did the small group which was good, 5 of us. Was a lot of people there and would have benefitted from headset to block out external noise. There was a LOT of steps and quite steep in places. Would have liked a little longer at St Nicholas church as we didn’t have time to see mosque as well. (We did sit for 5 mins to rest, so if you don’t need to do that there prob would’ve been time)
Kathleen_M, Jan 2023
This was a very nice tour with lots of interesting things to see. There is a lot of uphill walking, but the guide took it slowly and provided breaks. The views from the top of the mountains were worth it.

Arrived at Abside Shop at 4:58 for 5:00PM tour, this after location was changed last minute, and tour was nowhere to be found. (see pic of Abside store at 5:04!!!)
Had the Abside local shop worker call guide who said she had left and told us she would meet us if we walked up the steps of Calderia Nueva. (we even texted at pic of us so we could meet) No one met us. Had 2nd store owner call again and now we were told to head to a different location. Clearly, the guide either bagged out on the tour and was sending us on a "wild goose chase" or left without us and had no serious intention of helping us find her. When we called numerous times ourselves we got no answer.
Again, clearly she would answer her phone if it was coming from a local number but not from our international number.
Full disclosure, when we got the email about the change in location, we replied we wanted to cancel the tour and she replied, and I quote, "sorry no possible. booking confirmed. thanks." at which point I emailed back and said, OK we will be there.
Clearly, she had our email and was able to communicate with us prior to the tour starting but after 5:00PM she completely ghosted us. Could she not have emailed us??? Texted??? Phoned??? Absolutely zero communication from her. Sent email again after this terrible experience asking what was up and again no reply.
Working on getting my money back from this scam of a tour guide. It gives me no pleasure to write this, this is the first negative review I have ever given :-(
Response from Host, May 2022
Dear Elizabeth,
The guide was at Abside shop from 4:50pm and waited for you until 5:30pm with the other guests. Since you did not show up, he started the tour with the rest of the group, with 30min delays on the starting time.
We did write to you on the day before to inform you about the change of meeting point. You replied on that same day at 08:46pm “Please cancel. I have rebook on the Santa Cruz tour “. We replied to you on Saturday morning 21/05 at 08:09am saying that it was not possible to cancel and that the booking is confirmed, and you replied back saying “So sorry. We will be at tour I sent wrong email. See you this afternoon. “.
On the afternoon, you wrote to us at 05:39pm and then at 6pm asking where is your tour guide, so almost one hour after the tour started. We also never received any calls from you at any time.
The guide tried to help you to join the tour afterwards but we normally don’t have that obligation, especially after waiting 30min for you.
I am really sorry you had that experience and I can assure you that we have this tour everyday, with change of meeting point sometimes, and we don’t have any problem. If guests have any troubles finding the meeting point, they have our phone numbers and we are always happy to help them. For next time, I would just advise you to call the phone numbers that appear on your voucher.
Regarding the refund, we did inform you yesterday by message that as an exception we will process a full refund so you don’t have to “work on it”, as you say.
Best regards,
GRANADA A PIE

This was an excellent walk, and our guide. Mar really did a good job of making sure that the walking was accessible for everyone in our group. There are a lot of ups and downs on this, but the pace was appropriate so don't think you have to be an Olympic athlete to do this tour.

Elena was patient and knowledgeable, a great guide. Insights of history and daily life were appreciated.
Meagan_C, Mar 2022
Our guide, Francisco, was fantastic. He shared the history of the area with such warmth and enthusiasm, answered all of our questions about the history of Granada and of Spain and recommended places to explore and eat as well! Our sons, 12 and 10 were engaged and interested throughout. We highly recommend this tour - and Francisco!

Not too strenuous for an over 50 year old! Lovely views of Alhambra. Interesting facts. Saw cave house . Good tour.
SANJAY_K, Jun 2019
Isabella was a knowledgeable guide.we enjoyed the tour.Maybe a halt for restroom can be made in between as the heat is intense due to the summer and the walk is demanding.
Janet C, May 2019
Enjoyed walking around these neighborhoods, which we would not have done in such detail otherwise. The guide was personable and knew a lot. However, we specifically booked an English language trip. The majority of the people were English speaking and yet the guide spoke in Spanish more than half the time to the four people who were Spanish speaking and somehow included on our tour. Also, she ended 15 minutes early at a scenic viewpoint, which was quite a ways from the starting point, leaving us to find our own way back. I had assumed that we would be brought back to the starting point.
