Armando was an excellent story teller and guide! We did this tour right when we arrived in Florence and it was a great introduction to the historical center of town and helped us get comfortable with where to find everything. Armando gave a lot of great advice that was very useful. Highly recommend as an intro tour.

If this is the only tour you do in Florence, it would be enough (don't leave without visiting the Uffizi gallery, though). The tour was knowledgeable and totally worth it.

good overview of Florence

Armando was very knowledgeable! He was entertaining and gave lots of practical information! It was hot, though, and I was ready for the tour to be over when it was.

We booked this walking tour through Viator, drawn in by the low cost, good reviews, tip what you can model advertised in the listing. Unfortunately the experience didn’t match the description. Finding our guide was unnecessarily difficult. We were told to look for a pirate flag, but there was no flag in sight, and several other tour groups were meeting in the same spot, so we ended up going group to group asking if we were in the right place. A clearer signal, like a flag with the company name on it, would make this much easier for future guests. Armando was warm and welcoming at first, and he encouraged questions and participation. But as the tour went on, he grew visibly frustrated when our group asked things he didn’t seem to know the answers to, eventually telling us he didn’t have time to address our questions despite having invited them. We spent a disproportionate amount of time at the Duomo, which felt like padding to kill time, and we stopped at his friend’s sandwich and wine shop where he encouraged purchases and then seemed impatient waiting on people to complete their purchases. The actual sightseeing could have easily been done in about an hour and a half without all the filler. The most disappointing part was what happened with the tip. The listing is explicit that tipping is optional and should be based on your own budget, and we tipped in good faith based on that. At the end of the tour, Armando reacted with visible frustration at the amount and called us out about it in front of the entire group. This was unprofessional and put a bad taste in our mouth after what had already been a mediocre experience. We’d also encourage Viator to rethink how this is set up. If there is an expected tip amount, that should be stated clearly on the website up front rather than left vague. Better yet, the tour should be priced higher so guides are paid fairly for their work and are not relying so heavily on tips from patrons to make a living. No guide should be pressuring guests or dictating what they are required to tip, and no guest should be made to feel judged for tipping in good faith based on the information provided at booking. Finally, we we’re also notified by one of our hotels in Italy that tipping wasn’t an expectation in Italy.

My daughter and I had the best time on this half-day tour. It’s something every first-time visitor should experience—not just exploring the city on your own. It gave us a deeper appreciation of the history and made the whole trip even more memorable. Our tour guide was absolutely the best—knowledgeable, friendly, and engaging. They made the entire experience enjoyable for both me and my daughter, and truly brought the history to life. We especially loved learning about Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance, and the fascinating story of the Medici family. From humble beginnings as bankers, they rose to power and helped shape the city by supporting incredible artists like Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci. Hearing how they influenced art, politics, and culture made everything we saw feel more meaningful.

Our guide gave us a good sampling of things to do while in Florence. He sprinkled information with humor to keep our attention and pique our interst. We went back to several places he pointed out during the tour, making his time and efforts extremely worthwhile.
