Montserrat is an absolutely gorgeous place that's a short drive from the city. The tour guides make the roughly 60 minute ride entertaining and fun, as they share fun facts about the city, its history, and what you'll see and learn during your time at Montserrat. I took an earlier tour with an 8:30 am departure and even when we got there, it was warm (I was there early August!). Make sure to bring water if you want to walk around and explore. The Black Madonna and the history surrounding it incredible to witness and experience and the location itself feels peaceful, spiritual, calming. If you have half a day to spare and want to get out of the city, this is a great choice!

An extra hour would be perfect, as there are long lines and many other turists for our free time.
For example; The line and wait time for the funicular almost took 30 mins

Excellent half day tour to Montserrat, tour guides Carol and Montse were fabulous and so knowledgeable!! Toured with 2 teens and my mother and we all loved it, highlight of our vacation!

Wear comfortable shoes, bring a hat and sunscreen in summer months. If you want to hike to the top of the mountain, allow 1 hour and bring water. The view is worth the hike.

Amazing tour up to Montserrat! We visited the monastery, the basilica, and La Moreneta. Plenty of free time to explore further, we chose the art museum- 😍.

The walk up the hill is steep and takes time to get to the church. The inside of the church is breathtaking. The addition of the boys choir was worth the cost and the hike up to the church. Seating in the Cafe was limited, so if you get there and it is not crowded - GO then! Missed the gondola ride due to time and wish we had gone.

Our guides, Carol & Marek, were fantastic! They taught us history with humor and prepared us well for our experience at Montserrat. We also appreciated learning some words in Catalan! The farmer’s market is a must-visit!
*if you tend towards motion sickness, the last 15-20 minutes of the arrival & first 15-20 minutes of the return are on very curvy roads going up/down the mountain.

Francesco was an exuberant and entertaining guide. He was both knowledgeable and humorous and made the tour fun. He gave us lots of information and kept everything moving. The location was incredibly beautiful, both the natural beauty of the surrounding mountains and the artistic beauty of the incredible carved facades and sculptures and mosaics and paintings. Seeing the black madonna was a unique and inspiring experience. And we enjoyed meeting all the vendors at the markets and tasting various cheeses and nuts. We bought several delicious cheeses and had some mel i mato (like cottage cheese and honey) which was delicious. All around it was an exceptional tour and we highly recommend it. We did the half day (5.5 hour) tour because that was all we had time for in our schedule, but if we had more time I would do the longer tour because there was more I would love to do there between hiking and the funicular and just sitting peacefully in a place of such beauty.

M.K. and Hugo were spectacular. They were super knowledgeable and made the whole 6 hours seem like it was 30 minutes. They added humor on the way and interesting facts. I would highly recommend this tour and if you are lucky enough to get these two guides it is unbelievable

Wonderful experience. The meeting place was easy to find and our guide, Hugo, who was fantastic, was waiting with the umbrella. He is very professional, knowledgeable, and entertaining. The hour drive went by quickly. We had plenty of free time to explore, shop, or get a snack.

Had a fantastic time at Monserrat. The guide was very knowledgeable and we were able to see the black Madonna with only a 2 minute wait. We had enough time to shop and go on the funicular and have lunch.

Our tour guides Merak and Carol was great, we got into Basilica and touch to Black Madonna almost with no wait, they organizes everything seamless. Their recommendations were also great for things to do. They also gave us a lot of information about Barcelona, Catalonia and Montserrat. Tour gave us enough time to see the Basilica, Black Madonna, walk the path to the cross for scenic pictures, visit the gift shop and farmer market. I definitely recommend this tour and the tour company.

A great way to access Montserrat from Barcelona. One note: You will be taking a bus, not a train with this tour. I was asked again and again by my family how we were getting there, and it wasn’t in the listing that we took a tour bus out of Barcelona. This was not noted in the tour description and confusing because we met at a train station. Roberto, our tour guide was great and we appreciated having plenty of free time to explore.

Very picturesque, relaxed drive to the mountains. Guide took the time to give us a brief history lesson on the way. Hugo and his partner were cry knowledge and courteous. Trip up the mountain was well worth it. Views were amazingly!!!
