Of all the places we visited and things we did this particular experience was my favorite. I loved the small group and our guide was wonderful. He provided lots of information and history and was very knowledgeable. We knew this involved a hike but didn't realize how high the climb was. Our family members did the hike but my husband and I took the incline railroad. We all met at the top to enjoy the incredible view. I highly recommend this small group tour.

Combining a visit to Montserrat monastery with a hike was a perfect half day outing during our week in Barcelona. The tour is very convenient. We met the small group near Casa Batllo in Eixample (about a 20 minute walk from where we were staying) and Uni Tours took care of the rest. Our guide, Juan, was very knowledgable about the area and gave us some history on the 1 hour drive over. He led the group at a great pace but also gave us time to enjoy the gorgeous and inspiring views. The drive home was perfect for a little siesta and we arrived back in Eixample around 3pm refreshed and ready for part 2 of the day. We packed our own lunch but there are places to buy food at Montserrat if you are short on time. I also recommend sneakers with some grip or light hiking shoes/boots for the hike.

Phenomenal experience.
Juan was absolutely the best guide with regards to the history and the hike. He pointed out geological features, plants, etc. He was very patient and encouraging of all hiking levels, especially at the steep parts.

Unforgettable Experience at Montserrat! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I did several tours with Viator while staying in Barcelona, but this was by far the most fun and the one I enjoyed the most. Our guide, Jesús, picked us up at a central location and drove us up to the mountain. From there, half of the group chose to hike while the others took the funicular.
The hike is definitely strenuous, but absolutely worth it — the views are breathtaking! Jesús was incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and made the whole experience both informative and enjoyable.
I would highly, highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Barcelona. Whether you hike or ride the funicular, Montserrat is a must-see!

Jordi was an excellent guide that gave us a good hiking experience as well as information about the monastery. We felt we had a great informative session and he engaged our teenage daughters. He modified the hike up to the top of the mountain based on our skill level and also allowed girls to do some scrambling up the rocks. The views were great and we had a wonderful time. I came back to Barcelona specifically to do this hiking experience and it was totally worth it.

Amazing half day tour outside the busy city area of Barcelona. Amazing time seeing an old monastery and cathedral in a quiet and serene atmosphere full of history and end it in a small cable car and hiking back to the Montserrat monastery! Jordi was an amazing guide, funny, knowledgeable and made fun and insightful!! Recommended to de stress and escape the busy city for a while

This is a 'must-do' trip from Barcelona! Our guide, Frank, was not only knowledgeable but also a professional mountain guide, and we felt safe hiking the surrounding area with him. Montserrat is stunning, but a tour is much more enjoyable when your guide is invested and interested in his or her tour group. Beautiful hike with a very experienced and knowledgeable guide. The hike itself is moderate with a little more than 500 meters elevation gain. The monastery is crowded even in bad weather. Plan ahead if you want to view the Madonna.

This was an absolutely memorable hike. Franc was amazing in explaining the importance of each monument, mountain, flora and fauna on the way. He even pointed out some mountain goats to us. I would definitely recommend him for a wonderful experience!!!

Frank was our tour guide. We met him in Passeig de Gràcia. There were on 6 others on this tour. We traveled an hour to the mountain. We heard of the history first then we toured the grounds and went into the Basilica. We then headed to the funicular and went up to the top, but you could walk up too on a paved path. We looked around up top and when we met the rest our party who walked up we made our way down the mountain and we hiked. It was a pretty hard hike down for my age, but not for the young. This hike down has liads of stairs. It was a wonderful tour. Thank you Frank.

Wonderful tour and tour guides. We enjoyed smelling the rosemary and thyme on the way down and seeing rock climbers on the rock that looks like an elephant.

We had a great time at Montserrat. Frank is our driver and our guide for private tour of 7. He’s on time, very knowledgeable about the history and great hiker. We enjoy the church as well. Overall, great experience! If you go in the summer, start early because it can be hot. He picked us up and drop us off. Great service!

Montserrat was amazing and Frank our guide was awesome! We learned the history and info on what we were seeing and the hike and it's views were beyond beautiful. I'm afraid of heights and made it through so don't let that stop you. The runners passing by and going around the hairpin turns while running might freak you out though lol. Montserrat was one of the most beautiful spots on our vacation and should not be missed.

We had a wonderful tour with time to visit the monastery with highlights explained by our guide. Then we had an easy and beautiful hike on the mountain. Our guide explained the rock formations and local plants. He was also an expert at knowing when to explain things and when to just let his guests experience nature quietly.

At the meeting point, you get driven in a minibus straight to the monastery, where the tour begins. The first hour or so is spent in this area were the guide gives you the history and you can visit the basilica.
The hike is a 5km loop which takes about 2hrs in total. 1 hour up and 1 hour down. It's quite easy, you don't need to be a hiker to do this.
No walking boots or poles are necessary, trainers are fine. Just bring; a breathable t-shirt, a light jacket, some water and snacks.
Our guide, Franco, was great. He was very pleasant, chatty and knowledgeable about the Monastery and rock formations.
The tour is worth getting up early to avoid the crowds. When we got back to the minibus at 13:00hrs, the area was crazy busy!

We had a great experience and tour. Our guide Frank was very, very good. The place is very pretty, only thing going downhill walking is kind of strenuous so we should put something on the description and people will know as so many can't walk or have some disabilities. Other than that is a worth experience

My Barcelona highlight- a day away from the crowds up in the mountain air. Its only an hours drive out of the city & it felt like a million miles away. Montserrat is a very spiritual placed if you get away from the heaving crowds at the monastery which id well worth a visit. Loved the Black Madonna & her story . My group hiked up to the peak then took the stairs down from the funicular station- you do need to be reasonably fit as although the uphill path is wide & winding the downhill is steep & uneven. Loved loved loved the hike.

This was an incredible experience. It is a challenging hike and not for the faint of heart. Wear hiking boots/shoes. The views are amazing. We had a fantastic guide who was funny and had great stories.
