Well done museum, amazing collection of artifacts from the past. Well organized & a great place to have lunch.

Great place to see history of New Zealand and military past in one place. This is a combination of a museum of New Zealand and a solemn witness to New Zealand’s military past.

It's a lovely looking museum. Well laid out. Unfortunately most of the spaces we really wanted to see were closed for maintenance. We found some spaces frustrating because there was little to no information about some artefacts in the child area, and also no information about some artefacts unless you used a computer. This meant you had to wait to read about things at once rather than move along amongst others. Staff were very friendly.

Nice to be able to skip the line, but the line is actually not very long and the staff is a bit unfamiliar with the process of redeeming the tickets. The museum is good, with lots of references and artifacts related to Maori culture. Serve as a good introduction for someone to start delving into the very local part of New Zealand.

Te Ra! To see this magnificent creation and to hear its story was a revelation. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity.
The British museum should return this important treasure to its original owners.

seeing the Maori dancing , Seeing the culture of their people was wonderful. I would definitely recommend it to anybody that is going to visit New Zealand not to miss this.

We are not normally museum people, but we were so fascinated by all the exhibits of the Mauri and many Polynesian peoples, natural history displays and New Zealand’s part in several world wars that we spent four hours here. I highly recommend attending the Mauri cultural presentation held twice a day. It gave insight into their history and traditions and also was very moving.

Kia ora Deanna, it's fabulous that you were able to learn more about Māori culture and New Zealand history during your visit. We love sharing a unique glimpse of our culture with our visitors and we highly recommend that everyone attends a performance. Thank you for leaving a review.

Excellent museum. However, the Maori performance (we booked directly) was strange in the openly unfriendly way the performers treated audience members as soon as seated: no friendly welcome just warnings if you take a photo or applaud or (quoting) are there to “appropriate” they will chase you out. We were sorry we paid extra to be in the audience. Find a performance elsewhere - BUT don’t bypass the rest of the museum.,

Tour guide was very informative, enthusiastic, great advocate for the museum and New Zealand history and culture. Well worth it
Response from Host, Feb 2024
Kia ora Pearl, wow, thanks for such terrific feedback on our tour guide. We will pass this review on to them.

Actually, there is no need to by skip the line. I waited in general line for a few minutes to redeem my voucher. The museum is worth visiting though. Paid Guided tour is offered at 1pm and a cultural performance at 1:45pm. Unfortunately, the times overlap and you can't do both in one day
Response from Host, Jan 2024
Kia ora Natalia, we're glad to hear that you found it easy to redeem your voucher. We have an 11AM and 1PM time for selected guided tours, as well as 11.15AM & 1.45PM for the cultural performance. If you'd like to fit in both a guided tour and the Māori cultural performance in one day, we encourage you to come earlier to avoid overlap in timings and enjoy without stress. Multiple visits are definitely encouraged if you want to see and experience everything the Museum has to offer! Thank you for visiting and we hope you're able to come again soon.

The museum was amazing however we had problem with ticketing. We had to wait for a long time to get our tickets - I would not describe this as 'skip the line'. When we finally made it to the counter, they couldn't find our booking/tickets and we had to wait for a long time again. At the end, the museum staff just gave up and let us in.
Response from Host, Aug 2022
Kia ora, thank you for submitting your feedback about your recent visit to Auckland War Memorial Museum. We appreciate you taking the time to share your observations and feedback − we actively focus on customer feedback to target areas of learning and development and apologise for the wait in this instance. We hope to welcome you back to Tāmaki Paenga Hira in the near future.
Don_L, Feb 2020
The Museum is good but there is no line up . I do not need the Skip the line tickets . That is okay to pay two dollars more .
Response from Host, Feb 2020
Kia ora Don, thanks for taking the time to leave this review. It’s always tricky to gauge how busy the Museum will be on any given day. It’s great that you got to experience the Museum on a day without crowds. Thanks for visiting!

Excellent displays specifically anything related to Mauri culture. The entry at 22.85 senior ticket is expensive. we paid 8 Australian to see the Australian museum in Sydney.
RIE_E, Dec 2025
It is a wonderful museum that shows Māori culture and history, and a national attitude towards dignity as a people. I was impressed by their willingness to tell the truth without romanticizing war or Māori culture. I liked the fact that it conveyed volcanoes not only in terms of spirituality but also in terms of geologic aspects. I hope to visit again someday.
