Well organized tour. Kept to the timeline. Beautiful scenery along the way. Meteora is stunning and something quite unique. We visited three monasteries with plenty of photo opportunities. I captured some great shots. Maria, our guide, was lovely. She had lots of information about this fascinating monastic community through the years. I did not order brunch, but did order dinner at Camino. The burrata salad and salmon were delicious.

This was a great experience. It is a long journey but it is worth it. Seaside breaks for food was nice. Restaurant right on the water. Well organized as far as food . Order on the bus and food is ready when you get there. Meteora was beautiful from the mountains and monasteries. I would recommend this tour

Good tour

Cheri_H, Jun 2026
Meals were good but rushed. I think it would be better to do 2 monasteries and leave more time for dinner.

Impressive Monasteries! Bad Tour Logistics!

Jaime_L, Jun 2026
Our recent visit to the Meteora monasteries from Athens was a blend of breathtaking experiences and some frustrating moments. First and foremost, I have to commend our tour guide, Maria. Her knowledge and passion for the history of Meteora added a rich layer to our visit. She was engaging and attentive, making the journey feel special as she shared fascinating stories about the monasteries and their significance. The stunning views and serene atmosphere of the monasteries were truly awe-inspiring and offered a glimpse into a world of tranquility. However, the experience was somewhat marred by a couple of issues during the trip. During the long bus ride to Meteora, I found myself seated in front of two women who engaged in a lengthy, loud conversation. It was quite distracting and made what should have been a meditative experience challenging. I really wished the bus driver had addressed this, as it detracted from the overall ambiance of the journey. Additionally, the logistics regarding meal arrangements on the way back were poorly managed. I had ordered my food in advance, expecting it to be ready upon our arrival at the restaurant. Unfortunately, our bus driver only allotted 45 minutes for lunch. With a large group of over 40 people, it was evident that this timeframe was insufficient for everyone to enjoy their meal. I ended up receiving my food late and had to rush through my dinner, which was quite disappointing. It would have been much better to allocate at least an hour for the meal, especially since we were returning to Athens late at night anyway. I felt for the waitstaff, who were clearly doing their best to serve everyone quickly. In conclusion, while the Meteora monasteries are a must-see and Maria’s guidance was excellent, the travel logistics left much to be desired. With some adjustments to the meal timing and better management of the bus atmosphere, this tour could be truly exceptional.

Response from Host, Jun 2026

Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback. We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed the breathtaking Meteora monasteries and that Maria's knowledge, passion, and storytelling helped make your visit memorable. We also appreciate your comments regarding the journey and dinner stop. While it's difficult for drivers to intervene in normal passenger conversations during public group tours, we understand how a noisy environment can affect comfort on a long trip. Regarding dinner, pre-ordering is designed to speed up service, but on busy days unexpected delays can occasionally occur despite everyone's best efforts. We continuously review our timings with our restaurant partners to improve the experience. Your feedback is valuable and helps us refine our operations. We hope to welcome you back to Meteora for an even smoother experience in the future.

Great Day

Long day but worth it. We did the extra stop for quick breakfast and dinner and it added a nice break to the long bus ride. Driver and tour guide was great.

Stacie_R, Jun 2026
This was an amazing tour and a great experience. The guide was great and gave a lot of information. You do go at your own pace inside of the each monetary without the guide. You will get amazing photos. Things you should know ahead of time, there are a couple busses going out on this tour, you will have to find your bus it was a little confusing. There is not a guide on the bus ride, the guide joins you in the town Kastraki below Meteora. You may want to bring something to occupy your time on the drive. There are three meal stops, I didn’t realize this. The breakfast and dinner spot is the same and the food was good scenery was beautiful. Lunch is at the town Kastraki below Meteora before you go to the monasteries. Be prepared to do a lot of walking and climbing stairs but it’s worth it!

Amazing Meteora Experience – Just Be Prepared for a Long Day!

Emmanuel_D, Jun 2026
Where do I start? The Meteora Monasteries and mountain views were absolutely amazing. The scenery alone made this tour worth it. The snack and dinner stopovers were at beautiful locations right by the water, offering great views and a relaxing atmosphere. Overall, this was a fantastic experience. The staff, tour guide, and restaurant staff were all friendly, professional, and helpful throughout the day. One thing future travelers should know is that this is not a short trip. You will spend a significant amount of time on the bus getting to and from Meteora. The bus was comfortable and had Wi-Fi, but don't expect a quick excursion. We left Athens around 8am and didn't return until about 10pm. It is truly an all-day adventure. Another important note is that the monastery entrance fees are not included in the tour price, but I highly recommend paying the admission. The views from the monasteries are breathtaking, and the peaceful atmosphere makes the visit even more special. Despite the long travel time, I would absolutely recommend this tour. Meteora is one of the most beautiful places I've visited, and the experience was well worth the journey.

Response from Host, Jun 2026

Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review! We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed the incredible scenery of Meteora and the unique combination of towering monasteries, dramatic mountain landscapes, and our exclusive seaside stopovers. It's wonderful to know that the snack and dinner breaks by the water added an extra special touch to your day. We also greatly appreciate your kind words about our staff, guide, drivers, and restaurant partners. Providing a friendly, professional, and memorable experience is always our goal. You are absolutely right that this is a full-day adventure. Meteora is located nearly 350 km from Athens, and while the journey is long, we have carefully designed the itinerary with comfortable transportation, Wi-Fi, scenic stopovers, and plenty of opportunities to relax along the way. We believe the reward at the end of the journey is truly worth it. Thank you as well for highlighting the monastery visits. The small entrance fees go directly to the monasteries for their preservation, and the breathtaking views, history, and peaceful atmosphere make them an unforgettable part of the experience. We are honored to have been part of your Greek adventure and hope to welcome you back again in the future—perhaps for a longer stay in Meteora next time! Warm regards, The Visit Meteora Team

We are so glad we signed up for the private tour as it made our experience much more memorable. Our tour guide Chris was exceptional! He was from the area and shared all his local knowledge with us and knew all the best spots to stop and capture the amazing views. We highly recommend this tour!

One of the greatest advantages of a private experience is the opportunity to explore at a relaxed pace while benefiting from the personal attention and local knowledge of our guides. Chris will be especially happy to hear your kind words. As a local guide, he loves sharing the history, culture, and hidden gems of Meteora, and knowing that he helped you discover the best viewpoints and capture unforgettable photos means a lot to him. An efficeint and well run trip to Metora

Chris_S, Jun 2026
An incredible place to visit, beautiful views! The departure process was pretty easy, just ask the bus drivers if you're on their list until you find your bus (there were only 3 on our day, so not difficult) The meal ordering process was excellent and the restaurant was really efficient. Food and drink were ready on arrival for both breakfast and dinner, the break from transit was nice, and the beach and sea views were lovely. Arriving in Meteora was spectacular, and Maria was fantastic and very friendly! The monesories are out of this world! The hike up the stairs to them is manageable if you take your time, some water (available at kiosks before you enter), and pause to admire the view. It is a long day, but you can nap on the bus. While the metro works well in the morning, in the evening, there were upgrades underway, and the line was closed. This means catching the city bus to Omonia. We struggled with this as the screens on the bus are not for the route they are going, you need to ask the driver. A group of us had to change buses a couple of times to get on the right one. I would recommend using an Uber in the evening to avoid turning what is a 10min trip in the morning into a 1.5hr trip at night.

Response from Host, Jun 2026

Thank you for your wonderful and detailed review! We are delighted that you enjoyed the journey, the coastal stops, the monastery visits, and Maria's guiding. It's great to hear that the meal pre-order system and overall organization helped make the long day comfortable and enjoyable. We also appreciate your comments regarding the Athens Metro. The disruption you experienced was due to temporary maintenance works and does not reflect the normal operation of the network, which usually provides a quick and convenient connection to the city center. Thank you for choosing to explore Meteora with us, and we hope to welcome you back again soon!

Worthy things are rarely handed to you. Sure, it’s a long drive but if you are considering this tour, stop. Just do it. I imagine a time that monasteries like this will not be open to the public. If you get the chance please go. It is a hike but truly heavenly. The commitment to the lord saviour is out of this world. Respect the conditions, wear appropriate clothing, and keep quiet. Once in a lifetime moment. Amen

Response from Host, Jun 2026

Thank you for your heartfelt review. We are truly touched by your words and delighted that Meteora left such a profound impression on you. The monasteries are indeed a remarkable testament to faith, dedication, and human perseverance. We appreciate your thoughtful advice to future visitors and are honored to have been part of such a meaningful experience. Thank you for traveling with us.

A Memorable Day

Thomas_B, May 2026
This tour makes for a VERY long day. We got on the bus at 7:30 AM, and when after several hours on the road, combined with three stops for food/restrooms, tours of three Monasteries and several photo stops, we did not get back until 10:30 PM. However, this was a VERY memorable tour of these unique sites, as well as the opportunity to see a lot of interesting areas of Greece outside the cities.

Response from Host, Jun 2026

Thank you for your review! We agree that it is a long day, but we're delighted to hear that you found the experience memorable and worthwhile. Meteora is truly one of Greece's most unique destinations, and we're glad you enjoyed not only the monasteries but also the opportunity to discover the beautiful Greek countryside along the way. Thank you for traveling with us, and we hope to welcome you back again in the future!

Great unique experience but it is a LONG day. They break it up nicely with the meals and the location of those breaks is beautiful but still a very long day. Would recommend doing it but an wxperi once I wouldn’t feel the need to repeat

Response from Host, May 2026

Thank you for sharing your experience and for recommending the tour. We completely understand that it is a long day, as Meteora is located quite far from Athens, but we are very happy to hear that you enjoyed the scenic coastal stopovers and the overall experience. Our goal is always to make the journey as comfortable and memorable as possible by combining the breathtaking landscapes of Meteora with relaxing seaside breaks along the route. We truly appreciate your feedback and hope the memories from this unique day stay with you for a long time!

Bad experience.

Cristian_C, May 2026
At the beginning, no one told us which bus we were supposed to meet, and the coordinates provided were also incorrect. We had to cross a very busy road several times without a pedestrian crossing, asking bus after bus which one belonged to our provider. Once we finally found our bus, the driver, who was very unprofessional, did not even introduce himself, speak to the clients, or explain anything interesting during the tour. During the entire drive, which lasted more than three hours, he spent most of the time talking to a woman who was with him, completely ignoring the rest of us. It is disappointing that the app offers tours with such poor quality standards. I am extremely disappointed, and I definitely would not recommend this tour to anyone.

Response from Host, May 2026

Thank you for your feedback and we are sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. Please note that the driver operating the Athens–Meteora transfer is not a tour guide. The guided part of the experience begins upon arrival in Meteora, where our local guide joins the bus and provides all commentary and information during the tour. Additionally, there is printed information available in every seat pocket regarding the itinerary, meeting details, stops, and useful instructions for the day. Regarding the meeting point, the instructions and meeting details provided are clear and every day many travelers successfully locate and board our buses. However, especially during busy mornings in Athens where multiple coaches and operators depart from the same area, the boarding and check-in process may sometimes require a little additional time. We appreciate your comments and will continue working to improve the overall guest experience. Best regards, Visit Meteora Team

Too much bus travel, too little sight-seeing

Urvashi_S, May 2026
This is a full-day activity where actual sight-seeing is minimal. Sure you'll get a good bunch of landscape pictures but most of your time will be spent sitting inside the bus travelling between the pickup point and Meteora. You only get about 30mins at each monastery AND 30mins only for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Overall, this was an exhausting activity where we were quite literally just sitting in the bus for 2-4 hours straight just wanting to reach the restaurant. Not worth the time, really.

Response from Host, May 2026

Thank you for sharing your feedback. As clearly mentioned in the itinerary, this is indeed a full-day trip from Athens to Meteora, combining transportation and a 4-hour guided Meteora tour experience. However, we would like to clarify that the monastery stops are not limited to only 30 minutes each. The smallest monastery without staircases usually has a shorter stop of approximately 30 minutes, while the larger monasteries typically include stops of around 45 to 60 minutes. Additionally, the program includes: * a lunch break of approximately 50 minutes in Meteora, * and coastal stopovers every couple of hours for brunch and dinner at seaside and quality restaurant locations, helping make the long journey more comfortable and enjoyable. We understand that the day can feel long due to the distance between Athens and Meteora, but many travelers consider the unique landscape and UNESCO monasteries well worth the journey. Thank you again for your comments. Best regards, Visit Meteora Team

The monasteries are beautiful and the tour guide was very friendly and informative. We had an amazing lunch that was cooked by two Grandmas and was what you would get at family dinner. The drive and day was long but we are glad we did it.

Thank you so much for your lovely review! We’re very happy to hear you enjoyed the monasteries, the guiding, and especially the homemade lunch experience. The traditional meals prepared with local recipes truly give guests a taste of authentic Greek hospitality. We know it’s a long day from Athens, so it means a lot to hear you felt it was completely worth it. We hope to welcome you again in Greece someday!

Magnificent Monastery Tour

This is a very long day but that is the only negative. The land & sea scapes along the way are enjoyable, the seaside meal stops were at quality restaurants, & wow, the three Monasteries , perched like eagles nests on their stone pedestals are unique & magnificent examples of human engineering ingenuity. Incredibly good value tour & not to be missed!

Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re delighted to hear you enjoyed not only the incredible monasteries of Meteora, but also the scenic landscapes and the seaside meal stops along the journey. Your description of the monasteries as “eagles nests” perched on the rocks is truly beautiful. We know it is a long day from Athens, so it means a lot to hear you felt the experience was worth it and a great value. We hope to welcome you again in Greece someday!

Unorganized

Not a great experience. We arrived at our meeting point and had to walking around d multiple buses to figure out which bus was ours. Once in the bus, there is no one to instruct you on what to expect and stops we will make. Instructions not clear regarding meals. The bus ride is long. Once you get to Meterora a guide gets in the bus and rides to the monasteries with you and gives you some history. They drop you off at the monasteries and you walk around by yourself, the guide does not go inside. You are basically reading the boards to get historical information. It was raining the day we went which made the experience unpleasant. It would if been nice if they provided umbrellas or a rain jacket. Overall not worth the time or the $

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry to hear that the experience did not meet your expectations. Regarding the meeting point, the departure area near Larissis Station is a public meeting point used by multiple Meteora tour operators simultaneously, especially during busy mornings in Athens. Our coaches are always clearly marked with the Visit Meteora logo, while our staff and drivers personally redeem tickets using our ticketing system before boarding in order to assist guests and avoid confusion. Additionally, every seat net includes a printed “Welcome On Board” leaflet containing access to our dedicated /welcome page with: • Detailed itinerary and schedule • FAQ and useful travel tips • Live chat support • Audio guide instructions • Meal pre-order information and QR codes The complete itinerary is also publicly available on the Viator booking page itself, including both the short and long tour descriptions, as well as a detailed step-by-step explanation of how the day trip operates from departure to return. Much of the information mentioned in your review had already been clearly communicated both before and during the trip. As for the experience itself, we use local expert tour leaders who provide extensive historical and cultural commentary throughout the journey, during the drives between the monasteries, at the panoramic viewpoints, and outside each monastery stop. Inside the monasteries, guiding is only permitted by specially licensed guides. For this reason, we provide a Smart Audio Guide with geolocation trigger zones in 10 languages, covering 21 points of interest throughout Meteora. Concerning the weather, unfortunately rain is beyond any operator’s control. While we always do our best to ensure guests have a pleasant experience, travelers joining a full-day outdoor excursion should come prepared for changing weather conditions. Providing umbrellas or rain jackets for more than 100 guests during unexpected rainy days is unfortunately not operationally feasible. We genuinely appreciate your feedback, as it helps us continue improving both our communication and the overall guest experience.

Great experience

A long day but worthwhile for the amazing views! Our tour guide was great, the landscape was stunning, and the bus ride was actually kind of relaxing during a busy vacation. The monasteries were interesting though crowded, and 3 was enough, I didn’t feel like I was missing out by not seeing the others. My only complaints: the bus pick up point had many buses all going to Meteora and it wasn’t clear which was ours (it wasn’t in the spot described). Also we weren’t given information to order breakfast and by the time we got to the counter, they were out of food. My recommendation is to get something to eat before the tour and then hold out for lunch, which was good!
