Itinerary
The journey begins at the Larissis Railway Station in the morning, where you’ll board a modern coach bus equipped with air conditioning and onboard Wi-Fi. Relax and take in the diverse scenery of the Grecian countryside and break up the 4-hour drive with a stop in Kamena Vourla, for an optional seaside brunch (payable onsite).
Then head to the picturesque village of Kastraki for a relaxed lunch at a traditional taverna (available as a tour upgrade or you can pay on site).
Travel through a landscape of green valleys dotted with dramatic grey cliffs to reach Meteora, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built by Greek Orthodox monks who inhabited these incredible, hard-to-reach sanctuaries high above ground. Visit three active monasteries, spending about 45 minutes inside each one (entrance fees not included). See the others from the outside on a van tour and discover the hermit caves of Badovas, stopping for frame-worthy photos at each site.
After touring, make your way back to Kamena Vourla for an optional sunset dinner. Then, return to Athens, where you'll arrive in the late evening.

- Climbing Steps to Monastery Tops: Please be aware that reaching the top of the monasteries involves climbing steps. There are no elevators available, so please consider this if you have any mobility concerns.

We understand that it is a long day from Athens. The evening seaside stop is included to give guests time to relax, have dinner and take a break before the return journey, but we appreciate that some travellers may prefer a shorter itinerary.
Regarding the time at the monasteries, the schedule is carefully planned around monastery opening hours, traffic and the overall program, while still allowing visits to three monasteries and panoramic stops around Meteora.
We also understand your concern about returning to Larissis Station late in the evening and appreciate you mentioning it. Your comments are valuable as we continue reviewing how we can improve the overall experience.

This tour was absolutely incredible. We are so grateful we had the opportunity to see Meteora in one long day by bus. The pacing was great. There were lots of meal and bathroom stops. Our guide Katerina was so knowledgeable and our bus drivers were safe and terrific. There was only one challenge: the organization at the beginning when everyone was trying to find out what bus we were supposed to be on was utter chaos. There were many buses/companies and since the guides met us later, no one was making announcements or giving us information. If the drivers have all our names on a list, it would be helpful if we were told what bus we were assigned by email or app.
Definitely worth visiting Meteora.
Worth the long bus ride.
Spectaculsr scenery. Amazing monasteries on top of cliffs. Lots of strps to climb.
It's a long day but very worth it. You're able to preorder your brunch and dinner on the bus so it's ready when you arrive at the restaurant. Beautiful scenery awaits and lots of photo opportunities.
Bring good walking or hiking shoes. The views are incredible. Worth every penny, long day but definitely worth it.
It was a very long day but worth it. One of the buses had mechanical problems so they got a new bus, but that had issues on the way back and our bus had to wait for a half hour to take some of the people onto our bus. We didn’t get back to Athens until nearly 11pm. Our guide in Meteora was awesome; Vasilissis.
Great day trip. The morning was a little chaotic figuring out which bus was the correct one, but the rest of the day went smoothly.
Well worth the long day and eight hour round-trip to visit the monasteries. The landscape is breathtaking.
Bus/ Drivers were great ,courteous and ride was very comfortable. Awesome breakfast stop, Lunch stop is great- home cooking style. Our tour guide Maria was great, thorough, very informative, along with a great sense of humor. The monasteries were awesome, a lot of history.
The bus driver had a cold and was cranky but otherwise it was great. We had masks so hopefully we won’t get sick. The guide was great. The way things were planned out to make the 4 hour drive each way was well done and the venues were stunning. They carried the day. Don’t take the train it is unreliable they say. The lunch was great and well planned
It was a full day .bus ride was smooth however no ability to charge at our seat but they offered to charge our phones up front . WiFi was spotty - you had to be one of the first to connect or you couldn’t join.

Great views - loved our tour guide . Audio guide worked well too. Lunch was pretty good . Stops were very nice by water - order ahead of time and food ready . Everything on time . I’d recommend it . Very cool landscape and monasteries
There are over 100 steps at the first two monasteries. We didn’t have a guide with us on the drive to/from Athens. It took us 5 hours to get there due to stops. We met at 8 AM and returned to our hotel at 11 PM.

We would like to clarify that all the points mentioned as negatives in your review — the long duration of the trip, the scheduled stops, the many steps at the monasteries, and the fact that the live guide joins the group in Meteora rather than travelling from Athens — are clearly described several times in the tour information before booking.
We make a strong effort to present the experience transparently so guests know exactly what to expect. Meteora is a long day trip from Athens, and visiting its historic monasteries naturally involves walking and stairs.
Our guide was very knowledgeable about the monasteries, friendly and managed the large group and our time well. The waterside restaurant was very enjoyable.
Be prepared as this is a long tour, like 14 hours long. However, the monasteries and breathtaking views make it all worthwhile. Bring comfortable shoes as there is a decent amount of walking and bring some water as well. The breakfast and dinner stops are at Camino restaurant but there service leaves a bit to be desired. Tip: preorder your food (this will be explained at the beginning of the tour). Our driver and guide were excellent. Overall, well worth your time.
This was primary a bus ride — 4 hours there, 4 hours back. The monasteries on the cliffs were amazing, but the tour itinerary appears to have intentionally left out the drive times and so it isn’t clear. The guide was not a guide. A guide tells you where to be and when, and when you finish is there to guide you back to the bus. She often didn’t tell the group when to be back, and when she did share information it was too late. An example was telling us at lunch that we would need cash to get in one the venues, and sending us at the last minute to walk a quarter mile or more to an ATM with exorbitant fees (fees of 40% of the amount withdrawn). The guide was also very negative. Dinner was very rushed and the table next to us got their food 5 minutes before departing. The scenery was great, the operations was not.

However, we would like to clarify that the travel time between Athens and Meteora is described in detail in the tour itinerary and product information. Meteora is approximately four hours from Athens, and the schedule clearly outlines the departure, arrival in Meteora, return journey and expected arrival back in Athens. It would be difficult for us to provide this information more clearly or in greater detail before booking.
The same applies to the monastery entrance fees. The product description and “Know Before You Go” information clearly state that monastery entrance fees are paid separately in cash. We strongly encourage all guests to read the full itinerary and important information before purchasing, especially for a full-day excursion of this length.
Regarding your comments about the tour leader, communication and the timing of the meal stop, we take these points seriously and will review them with our operations team. Our tour leaders are expected to clearly communicate meeting times and practical information throughout the day.

The experience was totally unreal Meteora was so amazing the bus driver from Athens to Meteora was such a great driver and a lovely man.When we reached Meteora the bus driver changed and Nicko was his name I couldn’t remember the first drivers name and a tour guide Katerina joined us.
They were both so good would highly recommend the whole tour from beginning to end.We had an amazing tour everthing was explained so well.

This is an overall good tour that I would only recommend to someone (like us) that can absolutely only do one Meteora day. Meteora is a must-do! Our guide Maria met us after the four hour drive in the Meteora area and was fantastic! She was very knowledgeable and funny, and made an effort to meet everyone.
Our only real complaints rooted from the driver. He was late to picking us up at two of the monasteries and would ignore Maria's requests to pull over at picture spots. He caused us to be behind schedule (plus Athens rush hour traffic on the way up) which led to the last monastery being very rushed (just 30 min) and our dinner stop requiring everyone to order in advance, a process that caused issues for a few of us.
Overall I do recommend it but there is a reason everyone recommends at least two days dedicated to Meteora.

The Athens–Meteora day trip is naturally a long and full day, and for travelers with more time we also agree that staying overnight allows for a more relaxed experience. For guests who only have one day available, however, we always try to include as much of Meteora as possible while keeping the itinerary realistic.

We enjoyed the very full, 14-hour day trip to Meteora. The food stops at Camino restaurant on the beach, both around 10am and 8pm, were great. We toured three monasteries and stopped at several viewpoints where we could see the other three. The area was beautiful! There were a reasonable number of steps to reach each of the three, but someone with limited mobility would have difficulty getting around. Our guide Marie, who met us in Meteora, was well-versed in the history and cultural details of the monasteries. The lunch was basic, traditional, and tasted good. We would recommend this tour.

It was confusing in terms of boarding, timings, and return. There were 4 coaches and I ended up queuing on all 4 until they found my name. For the return I was told early evening on one message and then late evening in another. At the end we returned at 22:10, so I couldn't make any plans beforehand. It should be better communicated. But the trip is well worth it.

We are sorry that the boarding process and return-time communication were not clear enough. On busy days we may operate several coaches at the same departure point, but each guest should be directed to the correct vehicle quickly and without having to queue repeatedly. Regarding the return, the scheduled arrival back in Athens is approximately 22:30, depending on traffic and road conditions. We agree that this should be communicated consistently in all messages so guests can plan their evening properly.

I was expecting to actually go into caves so your advertising was miss leading. I would say see cave from a distance. So it did not actually meet my expectations for that. The lunch options were good but the food wasn’t really hot maybe lukewarm

The tour includes a stop at the historic hermit caves of Badovas, where guests can see the caves and learn about their history, but it does not include entering inside them. Most upsetting, was the bus without air conditioning. 8 hours of sweating on a bus felt more like torture than vacation. It was very upsetting. Additionally, the tour claimed you could charge your phone. Not true.

Our regular coaches are equipped with air conditioning and USB charging sockets at every seat, as described in the tour information. However, it is possible that your departure coincided with one of the rare occasions when we had to use a replacement coach, which may not have had the same USB facilities.
Regarding the air conditioning, if it was not functioning properly during your journey, we completely understand your frustration. Spending several hours on a coach without adequate cooling, especially during the summer, is certainly not the experience we want our guests to have.
We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate you bringing this to our attention.
They should tale "caves" out of the title of the tour because the only cave we saw was a hole in the rock that the guide pointed to from the bus. The bus ride was very long but the scenery and the tour itself was excellent. A 2-day trip might have been better, but if all you have is one day, the journey is worth it.

This was a great option to see the monasteries of Meteora. The bus was comfortable and pickup/drop off was handled seamlessly. The lunch and dinner stop was excellent! They efficiently run it like a machine getting your food out to you quickly. And the stops really helped break up the long ride. My only complaint is not all the USB ports on my bus were working, so my phone battery ran lower than I was comfortable with.

We had a wonderful experience!
There were multiple buses waiting at the station so make sure to arrive early enough to figure out which one is yours as there were long lines of other travellers trying to do the same. We were right on schedule with departure times and during the following stops. I would say that meal breaks felt a bit rushed and nerve wracking though I understand that point of the experience is not the stops along the way, so it makes sense to keep them short. It might be the best option to eat at the partner restaurant as they are very efficient and have your food ready in advance if you pre-ordered. There are plenty of other restaurants around but they get crowded with the other travellers arriving at the same time and trying to get in and out within the same limited timeframe. I’d suggest bringing your own snacks or lunch.
The actual experience itself was great! The drive there was long but the scenery was beautiful and the bus was very comfortable. Our guide was very nice and engaging, he shared a lot of information with us and made sure everyone made it back safely after each stop, which was a concern of mine. We had plenty of time to visit the monasteries and take pictures during the other sightseeing stops. The views were breathtaking and definitely worth seeing. The walk up was not as challenging as we thought and the terrain was pretty even tho some steps might be a bit slippery. Would absolutely recommend!
