A very long day, but worth it if you are pressed for time. In our case we were only in Athens for three days before starting our cruise. We needed time to see the city, but wanted to experience an area outside of the city. It was nice to see the Greek countryside, and the monasteries were beautiful. Our guide was great. Definitely recommend this tour.

A truly amazing experience. I've been round the world and this must be seen. The guide was brilliant! We saw every monastery and visited three. I'm 80 years young and recently had heart surgery and I managed it. It was top of my bucket list.

Amazing Meteora

JenniR, May 2026
It’s a long bus ride from Athens, but worth it. There is no tour guide on the bus, bring your own entertainment. The tour guide gets involved once you reach Meteora. Ours, Clement, was enthusiastic and helpful. Lunch is at a restaurant along the way, it was fine. There’s an additional comfort stop each way as well.

Meteora Monastries

Matthew_H, May 2026
The landscape and views of the monasteries are breathtaking taking. Inside the Monastries less so. Wear proper walking shoes or trainers with treads. The monastery which can be entered without walking up any steps is crowded and not worth entering

No AC in the Bus !

Beth_T, May 2026
The experience and guide Maria at Meteora was excellent . The bus and ability to correct NO Air conditioning for travel to Meteora was extremely disappointing. Had Maria not strongly intervened we would have had to endure another 4 hours back to Athens in oppressive heat? Maria was our hero!,

A breathtaking views

Ruth_A, May 2026
Going up to the monastery is not that hard as long as u have to take ur time. Don’t rush enjoy to see the breathtaking views. Maria is really helpful & u can tell that she knows what to say about the history.

Worth the Ride!

Jacqueline_I, May 2026
The trip is long, but they do a good job of trying to break it up with stops along the way both for food and comfort breaks as well as picture spots. The monasteries are beautiful and it is a very worthwhile trip. Maria our tour guide was enthusiastic and knowledgeable, she made the trip very enjoyable. She shared lots of info and you could tell she loved her country's history.

Worth the long drive!

Daniel_O, May 2026
This was a great day trip from Athens! Perfect for getting out of the city for a day to see something cool. Be warned, the drive to and from is very long, so be prepared. The food stop was a nice break, and the walking wasn’t too difficult, just a lot of stairs. Our guide Maria was super friendly and informative, and the area and buildings were beautiful.

A must see!

Jacquelyn_S, May 2026
It’s wonderful and well worth the time and money. There are a lot of stairs and you should be physically prepared, however there is no rush and you can enter and tour the monasteries at your own pace. The trip is long from Athens. You should plan on about a 14 hour day with 4-5 hours of travel time each way. They make a 30-40 minute stop for food, drink, and restroom on the way. There’s a lunch stop at the base before you begin your ascent (by vehicle) up to the monasteries, and a stop for dinner on the way back to Athens. Anyway, plenty of opportunities for food if you want to eat, and restroom breaks. The tour guides are amazing and supply lots of stories and historical information. The building of these monasteries is an incredible feat on its own. The fact that many are still operational and inhabited by monks and/or nuns is also amazing. Do it! You won’t be sorry!

The great Meteora

Astrid_C, May 2026
Our tour to the Meteora Monasteries in Greece was absolutely unforgettable! From start to finish, everything was well organized, enjoyable and far beyond our expectations. A huge thank you to our driver, Alexis, who was fantastic throughout the entire trip. He drove with professionalism, confidence and great care, making us feel completely safe and comfortable during the long journey. His smooth driving and positive attitude truly added to the experience. Our tour guide, Clement was exceptional. He was knowledgeable, professional, patient and incredibly fair with everyone on the tour. He did an amazing job explaining the history and scenery along the way, making the trip both interesting and enjoyable. At one point, some passengers wanted the window curtains closed because of the sun, but Clement handled the situation calmly and respectfully, explaining that keeping them open allowed everyone to enjoy the breathtaking views and follow along with his explanations. He managed everything professionally while keeping the atmosphere positive for the entire group. The beauty of Meteora was breathtaking, but what truly made this experience special was the outstanding service from Alexis and Clement. Their professionalism, kindness, and dedication made this one of the best tours we have ever taken. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Greece!

Long time for travel in...

Haruthai_K, May 2026
Long time for travel in one day but the tour is very organize that make time enough for every spot. The view is amazing when you see at the first time. Worth to go.

Literally "awesome"!!

Anne_D, May 2026
Although this site is about 4 hours from Athens and the total duration of the day trip was 12 hours, it was well worth going on this excursion. Afterall, it is a UNESCO site and if you are visiting Greece you want to see this one of a kind site. As you climb staircases towards the monetaries, which are perched on top of rock pillars 1,600 feet high you can't imagine how these buildings were constructed in the 14th century. The stair climbing was not difficult and there was always plenty of time given at each site. Also, the bus stopped for a rest break both going to and going home.

Excellent trip to the monasteries at Meteora!

John_S, May 2026
Seeing the monasteries at Meteora was a fantastic experience. Our tour guide, Clement, was excellent and was full of knowledge and enthusiasm. It was well worth the long trip from Athens.

Great tour, extremely long long day

SusanLaura_H, May 2026
This is an extremely long day. What they do not tell you is they add into this another 40 minutes for a dinner stop and that was not information given until we left to go home. This was a great tour but that extra 40 minutes put me back at my hotel at 11:20 at night which was just too late for a solo female.

Charles_M, May 2026
Crowds and it wasn’t even the busy season! A very long day. The monasteries were amazing. The lunch and break spots were ridiculous- multiple buses converging on the same spots. The ad for the tour stated includes lunch - we had to buy our own lunch.

Be ready to hike!

Sherilllyn_G, May 2026
The tour was awesome! The place was magical and shouldn’t be missed. Our tour guide Clement was very knowledgeable, organized and brought us to the best spots for photos. The food stops were not that great, food is average and not much time to use the washroom and eat because of so many tourists who came at the same time but overall it was great!

total RIP OFF , they did...

Alejandra_D, May 2026
total RIP OFF , they did not fulfil what was promised, we couldnt enter the most popular monasteries as promised! they argued there was a lot of people there, but that is not the customer's fault! dont sell what you cant provide!

Service is not good

Sona_T, May 2026
Guide does not go with you to the monasteries. Too long with unexpected dinner. Both lunch and dinner are terrible

Crystal_T, May 2026
It lasted 15.5 hrs and was totally worth it. Guide Clement is informative, helpful and nice. And the monasteries were exactly as good as what they described in details.

Beautiful views but long day

Debra_P, May 2026
Stunning views of the caves and monasteries. It’s a very long trip from Athens so if don’t mind that it’s worth the trip.

Wonderful day trip keep in mind that it is a very long day. I would not recommend it for children. .

Amazing

Gavin_K, Apr 2026
Absolutely stunning views and rich, fascinating history. We had Clement as our Tour guide, he was passionate and provided alot of background knowledge on both the geography/geology of meteroa, as well as the history and significance of the Monasteries. If you have the time, I highly recommend taking the time to see Meteora if you are in or around Athens, as it is a must see and definitely worth the 4 hour drive. I would also recommend doing a tour which is more than one day, as there is alot to see and alot of history and beauty to take in, learn about and appreciate. It is very rushed to try and get through it all in one day.

Great trip

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely Breathtaking - A Must-Do from Athens!

Manuel_H, Apr 2026
What an amazing and special place! The Meteora Monasteries completely exceeded our expectations. Seeing these ancient monasteries perched impossibly on top of towering rock formations was truly awe-inspiring - photos don't do it justice. Our tour guide Clement did a wonderful job from start to finish. His knowledge of the monasteries' history, the monks who built them, and the spiritual significance of Meteora brought the entire experience to life. Clement's passion for this UNESCO World Heritage site was evident, and he made sure we had plenty of time to explore, take photos, and soak in the incredible views. The day trip from Athens was perfectly organized - comfortable transportation, well-paced schedule, and a delicious authentic Greek lunch included. We visited multiple monasteries and caves, each more spectacular than the last. Standing inside these centuries-old structures while looking out over the breathtaking landscape was a spiritual experience regardless of your faith. Clement's storytelling made the long history of these monasteries fascinating, and his timing ensured we avoided crowds and captured the best light for photos. He was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely cared that we had an unforgettable experience. This was hands-down one of the highlights of our entire Greece trip. If you're in Athens, don't miss Meteora - it's worth every minute of the journey. And if you can, request Clement as your guide! Highly, highly recommended! 🏛️

The Best and Beautiful Tour

NACHIAPPAN_M, Apr 2026
One of the best tours, out of more than 100 tours I have so far traveled along 36 countries in the world. Even though it is a long 14 hours tour from Athens , I did not experience any discomfort during the whole journey (I am 70 years old). Climbed 3 monasteries out of 6 . Best picturesque location. Great History. Holy places. All are Must see places . Birthtaking views. Nature's bueaty and on the top , man / woman made beautiful monasteries. Unbelievable structures constructed in remtote and in a very high altitude mountains top without any equipment , around 1000 years back is something remarkable human achievement. Local guide Clement very informative, knowledgble ,helful abd supportive. He pours information continuously. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour.

Overall, the trip was awesome! The bus ride was smooth, our local guide was great, and checking out the Meteora Monasteries was easily the highlight—the views are absolutely breathtaking. Just a heads-up on the food: the lunch package was a letdown. The lunch and pit stops don't really have other places to grab a bite, and the options there aren't the best. If you're a picky eater or have dietary restrictions, you might want to pack your own lunch/snacks!

Amazing Experience in Meteora!

Dominic_C, Apr 2026
What can I say from the experience apart for the fact it met all of my expectations! First let me start off by saying I wasn’t sold on the idea of this activity given the very long journey with the lingering doubt I could potentially be disappointed by what I see. Having very few days in Athens, it also meant going on this journey would mean sacrificing a full precious day in the city. All of these doubts would soon be forgotten when setting my eyes on the first monasteries and seeing the dreamlike landscapes unfold before me as our very friendly and knowledgeable guide brought us on multiple stops to each monastery and photo stops in the mountains which look like something out of the movie Avatar! If you have some doubts, I hope this review speaks to you when I say I have been converted into a believer and highly recommend the lengthy trip to see with your very own eyes why UNESCO choose this as one of its world heritage site, which in unlike anything I had ever seen in this world! It will definitely be a place I never forget, and the pictures I have taken on this trip are simply out of this world! Now for those wondering about the subtle details of the tediously long journey (which I didn’t seem to find particularly clear when booking the trip), here’s the way things unfolded for my experience. The total trip time averages 4-4.5 hours each way. There were no washrooms inside the voyager type bus, but the driver stops halfway (so after about 2 hours) to this cafeteria type restaurant which has a large number of washrooms and also a convenience store to buy any junk food and refreshment you could want for the journey. The first time you stop at this place is a quick 15 minute break for washrooms and snacks. The second time you will return to this place is on the way back when the stop is slightly longer given they allow you time for supper (like I mentioned previously, cafeteria style food is served, or you also have the option of purchasing some pre-made sandwiches for more budget conscious people). The bus itself is very comfortable and has USB charging ports (typical USB-A ports, not the newer USB-C type) if you wish to bring your cords for charging, which is highly recommended given the lengthy journey to help pass the time on your phone, and to keep your phone full for the high number of amazing pictures you’ll be taking! Important to note there is WiFi on the bus which is an absolutely amazing feature to have! Lastly, your arrival at the city itself will generally coincide with lunch time. Depending on the option chosen, you will either have lunch included or not with the tour. The only difference here is the price. At the time of writing this review, the lunch was 15 euros at the restaurant the bus dropped off the group if bought separately (I did not see any other alternative close, so you either pack a lunch if you wish to save money, or head to this other cafeteria style restaurant). There were about 7-8 different types of food in the cafeteria and most were traditional Greek meals which were delicious. If you can score your Viator ticket with the meal per person at less than 15 euros difference, I would say you’re saving some money! So that’s pretty much all of the details I can recall and believe you will need. Hopefully it can help others understanding how the day unfold and the details, and convince you to go see what I truly believe was an enchanting scenery!

Tour that lifts you up

Bobby_B, Apr 2026
Clement was excellent and spoke clearly and was always helping us with pictures and on and off the bus. Appreciate his passion and information he shared with us.

Worthwhile. Insightful .

Diane_F, Apr 2026
Long but insighful. I had cloudy day but weather lifted intermittently therefore allowing amazing mystical views,

Poor weather but EXCELLENT day trip!!!

Danielle_P, Apr 2026
Only reason for 4 stars was the weather that particular day- unavoidable but still slightly disappointing. Maria was our tour guide and she was incredible, she grew up in the area and knows a lot about Meteora. She was so kind and tried to get to know everyone on the tour. Our driver Chris was very impressive! Kept us safe and navigated the narrow streets very well!
