The tour guide of the Jewish district in Amsterdam was remarkable- calm, thoughtful and deeply knowledgeable. He shared insights about the holocaust that I never heard before, and just as importantly, he helped us understand how such atrocities unfolded in full view of everyday people. His ability to present such difficult history with clarity and depth made the experience both moving and unforgettable.
Without question, this was one of the best and unique tours of my travels- do not miss it!

Our guide James gave an excellent & informative tour. It was a well paced story & walk around the Jewish neighbourhood showing the impact of the nazi occupation on Jewish Community of Amsterdam. Revealing the unrecognised memorials & landmarks that tell the story.
A recommended tour for your time in Amsterdam.
Janet_F, Apr 2026
Our guide was very genuine and clear. We got more information about this area than if we had just gotten on a tour of the Anne Frank House. Highly recommend this tour.
Joy_B, Apr 2026
We never saw the Anne Frank house which is why I signed up to go. The tour was over and someone said “ we didn’t see the Anne Frank house” he said it’s just down the street and pointed in the direction…,,that’s why I took the tour! I was disappointed and had to find it myself which took awhile as this was my first time here.
Linda_W, Apr 2026
James was passionate and knowledgeable about Jewish history in Amsterdam. I would definitely recommend him to friends. He showed us places we would never have known about.
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Thank you for the lovely review! We’ll be sure to pass your kind words on to James.

This is a really worthwhile small group walking tour of the area known as the Jewish quarter during WW2. James are guide was so knowledgeable, affable, easy to understand and very open up discussion and questions. He showed things it would be easy to walk past - eg small plagues embedded in the stone paths and explained their meaning, took us to two memorials - the Jewish names listed in alphabetical order of the 130 000 Jewish killed in WW2 in Amsterdam, and the Auschwitz memorials as well as the building where the Jews were held before deportation. It was all moving and so interesting.
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Thank you! We're very happy you enjoyed the tour with our guide James.
Elaine_P, Apr 2026
Our guide James was very knowledgeable and helpful!!! Though we did not see the Anne Frank house, we would do this again!
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Appreciate it! Great to hear you still enjoyed the tour with James.

Good intro to the history associated with the Jewish community in Amsterdam. Tour introduces you to concept of Stoppelsteins, frames the history of how the ghetto came to be. Erin was very knowledgeable and did a great job in providing his historical perspective and his personal insights given his studies in genocide.
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Thanks for your feedback! Happy Erin could give you a clear and interesting introduction to Amsterdam’s Jewish history.
Jeffrey_K, Mar 2026

James was very personable and Knowledge. He was a great tour guide. I thought we would have walked to Ann Frank's house (at least to see it from the outside). However, James showed us some sights that were not well known as well asthose known. Very impactful tour. We will never forget.
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Thanks for your review! Glad you enjoyed the tour with James and the different spots he showed you.

Walking through the streets and hearing the stories from our guide made Anne Frank’s experiences feel so real, and learning about the Jewish community in the city added so much depth. It was emotional, eye-opening, and definitely made me see things in a completely new way

Just went on the Anne Frank Jewish Quarter tour with James, and it was absolutely incredible! James is such an engaging and knowledgeable guide—he brings history to life with fascinating stories and vivid details. James’s passion and enthusiasm make every moment memorable, and I left with a much deeper understanding and appreciation of this history. I can’t recommend this tour enough—it’s a must-do experience!

There ended up being 3 people on our tour which was excellent. You are outside 90% of the tour so it’s important to have warm clothes since today it was very chilly. We saw many memorials and interesting sites.

Andrew_W, Dec 2025
Pilar- our tour guide- was unreliable and volatile. From greeting us with anger to raising her voice and screaming at the top of her lungs another tour guide at the Holocaust Names Memorial (who dared stand too close to our group accidentally) and then screaming at our own group for the next ten mins. This continued into the tour with a very flippant delivery of horrific war crimes, cracking jokes even as many on the tour were teary eyed looking at what was in front of them. The icing on the cake were the multiple conspiracy theories presented as “my friend says X, but you won’t find it anywhere in books or the internet”. We were uncomfortable around her and found that much of what she told us wasn’t true or only partially true, after we explored the museums on our own. This was an incredibly unpleasant waste of time. Do not attend if you’re a history buff expecting someone knowledgeable to discuss dates and facts. You won’t get it on this tour.
Nicole_K, Dec 2025
Very knowledgeable guide, provided a lot of historical background and information about Jewish history before WWII. It was a moving experience to visit the places and memorials. Highly recommended, but note it does not go to the Anne Frank house, which is a separate experience quite a distance away.
Wubendanchi_M, Dec 2025
This was just an amazing tour. Way better than just going to Ann Frank house. A lot more of history and seeing different monuments throughout the city was just amazing! The guide was friendly and knowledgeable.
Laura_C, Nov 2025
James was great. Knowledgeable and passionate about Jewish Amsterdam, from its origins through World War 2 to now.
The subject matter is sad and emotional. James presented it fairly.
Robyn_W, Nov 2025
James was a fabulous tour guide. He was knowledgeable and shared great stories with us. Learned so much that I did not know. We really enjoyed this tour and would highly recommend it.
Dedria_R, Oct 2025
Excellent tour with a very knowledgeable guide! We loved being able to have the full experience and not just what's in museums! Walking with the guide was the best!
Jordan_D, Oct 2025
James was an excellent guide! He took us to several sites that most would miss or never know exist. He was knowledgeable and articulate. Thank you!
Jeannie_D, Oct 2025
I didn’t realize it was a private tour and I was the only one on it and it was less than two hours, but James was very good and had a great amount of knowledge about the Jewish corner.
Kevin_K, Oct 2025
The tour was definitely worth the time to take. Our guide Maria gave us a lot of background on what occurred during that time and pointed out l many things we would never have picked up on our own.
