Had a great time. Our tour guide Josh was super nice and passionate, shared what its like to live on the islands, history of Maine, the fires plaguing Portland, the islands, the lighthouses: Bug Light, Springpoint Ledge, Pemaquid, Portland Head, the lobster wall, and various forts. The optional Lobster Roll lunch was great (additional cost to the food vendor) We did get a bit of rain but not too bad at all! Its all parto of the Maine experience. It is a ~12 mile bike ride, spanning 3 hrs. Terrain is mostly flat, with occasional ramp. Highly recommended!

Excellent Scenery and History

This was a fantastic tour. They covered a lot of water including the harbor and several islands. Not only did we see several lighthouses and beautiful homes on the shores but lots of historic fortifications from the war. The narrator was fantastic - describing what we were seeing along with backstories and history throughout the tour. We sat on the top deck and was a little chilly but well worth it. At the end we went downstairs which is enclosed where it was warmer. They had a bar and snacks and two bathrooms on board.

Great way to see lighthouse with Portland insights along the way

Loved the trolley bus and our driver Steve did a great job showing off his hometown. Not much to see at the lighthouse (other than the obvious!) but we enjoyed a short cliff walk before re boarding the trolley to return to the city. This tour does exactly what it says on the tin.

Very conveniently located meeting & check in location within a 5 minute walk from our Windstar/Star Pride ship docked in Portland, ME. An Outstanding Tour That Brought Portland’s History to Life

The best part was how Ross connected all these places into one big story. We weren’t just looking at old buildings; we were learning how fires, immigration, commerce, politics, food, and people shaped the Portland we see today. We walked away with a whole new appreciation for this city—and a camera full of pictures to remember it all! Ross even treated us to cookies at a special bakery before we finished. What a day! Ross was an exceptional guide who went above and beyond to make this tour memorable. Made our day in Portland

The sunset cruise was just what we hoped for. John shared so much interesting information about the lighthouses and islands we passed, lobstering, and local history; and Howard skillfully navigated usamong the islands and then positioned us to see a beautiful sunset. He also found some rocks where seals and cormorants were resting. Sit on the right side for the best views. Arrive early to get an outside seat on the top deck and dress very warmly.

History and donuts

We love to take some kind of historical tour any time we arrive in a city - it helps us to get our bearings to the city and gives context to the stay. So when I found one that added donuts - pure bonus! The donuts were great - especially the part where we got to skip the massive line at Holy Donuts. But even better than the donuts were the fun facts we learned about Portland. Our guide was knowledgable and fun. He didn't let facts get in the way of having fun - he definitely had some embellished stories but gave us full warning they were embellished ;) We also loved that he gave a card with personal recommendations at the end of the tour - it was super useful for our trip. We'd recommend to everyone as a first stop when you arrive in Portland.

Great Tour from a Boat

This was a tour from one of the boats. It was rather windy this day in addition to a lot of boats on the water, so the boat had a lot of movement of rocking and rolling. The guide was very informative and told us about all the light houses we encountered and the Civil War maritime history. He also told about the various people that lived along the shore line where some areas they were only there during the warmer weather and some actually stayed year around. I was amazed to hear that the water temperature never went higher than 50 degrees.

The trip was amazing! We...

The trip was amazing! We were on the smaller of the 2 boats and had a great time! The crew was great! We were mostly interested in seeing lighthouses and this trip did not disappoint. We booked this through Viator, and that was a mistake. Their custom service is terrible. We kept trying to get out tickets online and couldn't. We had to download the app, then received a link in an email, which pretty much took us back to same page that showed that this is not the ticket, that we need to download the app to get the tickets. We went round and round on this for days. Finally on the morning of the cruise, about 2 hours before we were scheduled to sail, we called Viator customer support. We spent a lot of time on the phone and were told that they couldn't contact anyone with the ship company because they wouldn't be open for a couple more hours since they were on the west coast. Our trip is in Portland Maine on the east coast. This woman didn't have it together. Much like trying to get the tickets, this just kept going round and round. We finally just went to the location and asked if we were on the list, and we were, but the boat was sailing from a different dock. The cruise company tried to contact all the passengers, but we were never notified of the change. Luckily we had time to walk to the other dock and made it on the ship in plenty of time. The trip was amazing, Viator, not so much.
