Bring Water & A Hat!!
Great Experience! It’s such a beautiful place with interesting history that you wouldn’t necessarily know without going on a tour! The tour stops at some great places including a visit to one of the grotto houses. The tour also ran to schedule even with the million questions from the group. Take water and a hat! It is hotttt and there isn’t much shade on the tour. The tour is also maybe not for someone who isn’t too mobile! Matera is quite hilly and you go down some steep and slippery steps! Overall a great tour!

Marvellous tour. Highly recommended.
Guitano was a fantastic guide. His wit and knowledge kept the small group enthralled. His explantion of the geography and history of the location of the Matera caves and valley were excellent. The jovial and kind nature of Guitano made the heat of the day pass by without feeling like we were in an oven. The variety of locations, stories and explanationa of life in the past was clearly shown throughtout the valley. I found the cave house fascinating and the Palombaro Lungo (undergeound water system) was really cool to see. The winding streets and maze of cave buildings, and amazing views across all angles gave a sense of wonder. There are plenty of instagram worthy views around each corner and at various squares. The church atop the rocky outcrop was very beautiful and dramatic. We suggest you wear comfortable shoes, sunglasses and a hat to help keep cool. We bought a locally made cuckoo whistle and limestone fridge magnet. The locally made foccacia from a small bakery was delicous. 10/10 tour as you would not know as many details without the excellent guidance of Guitano.

Great guide with Insights into Stassi and Cave civilisations
Such an insightful trip, all because of our guide. I would recommend this tour anytime. This tour is not to be missed -to appreciate the cave civilisations , life in the sassi, and cave churches, Byzantine art. Our guide was also patient and waited for us, a senior couple, to catch up with the group.

BEST way to see Matera
This is by far the best way to see Matera. Our guide, even with limited English, was incredibly helpful and friendly and showed us everything we wanted to see and more. Plenty of time for photographs and getting out and seeing incredible views. This is a great thing for somebody with a mobility issues, and the central Meetup location was easily accessible by taxi.
