This is a good introduction to Matera and a panoramic ride if you don't have too much time to explore the city. In 45 minutes you will see the major sites and have a sense of the town layout to later explore at a more slower pace, or like in our case where didn't have more time, leave us wanting to return to this incredible place. The drivers (we had two vehicles being a party of 5) were helpful, professional and friendly.

We booked this in June 2025 and they did not schedule a time for the tour at that time. The day before the Ape tour , they assigned us 1615 time slot which I informed victor we could not attend as we had another aviator tour that was prescheduled. Their response was that was the only time they had thus I asked to be refunded and did not hear back from them. I am not certain this is the correct forum to ask again for a refund, however I would like a refund as the issue is with a poor scheduling process unlike the 3 other viator activities that we were able to book and schedule months before our arrival in Italy.

So glad we booked the tuk tuk tour with Vito. We saw so much of Matera that we would not have seen in the short time we were here. Vito was very knowledgeable and gave us lots of historic facts of the Sassi. We even went to a small cave museum and had lots of photo opportunities. Would highly recommend this tour.

Worst tour ever. I booked with Viator and received confirmation for 10:30. My wife & I met him and then suddenly another couple with a man who spoke Italian and he said he had a tour with them. He blamed Viator. This is a lie as when I booked with Viator they emailed me saying they had to confirm with him and would let me know. I then received an email that he confirmed with them. I showed him the confirmation and he just ignored me and offered 1:00. We were astounded and needed to think about the 1:00 so we told him no. We altered our daily plans , called him, and he said OK for 1:00. Then came the tour. It was no tour. It was just driving us around and stopping at two churches where he said: " go take a look:. He did not come with us to explain anything. He also made a couple of stops where he said : " walk over there and take a look:. Those stops were about 20 minutes of a 40 minute tour. If I did not ask questions he did not volunteer any information. I would say he was informative for about 10 minutes. He was more concerned dropping us off and chatting with whoever he knew. To top it off, the 40 minute tour was 25 E per person. He then demanded 30 E and I said his web site states 25 E. He said that is what it starts at. I paid him not to be confrontational. When I later looked at his web site, and I contacted him that I was correct. He said "do the tour in November and it is 25 E. " This tour operator is a thief and has you at his mercy. You plan a vacation, walk from your hotel to a designated spot, and he dismisses you. because he double booked the tour so in the event someone does not show he still gets a fare. We learned almost nothing about Matera. Avoid him unless you want disappointment.

1- I apologized for the misunderstood at 10:30 saying that sometimes communications trough Viator are not always clear that's the reason why I offered you to do the tour at 1:00pm as scheduled and texted you few days before the tour.
You said no and I offered to refund you, 10 minutes after that you were refunded you call me to accept the tour at 1:00pm happy to pay directly thinking to be smarter and save some Euros.
2- website clearly says "starting from" and if you read "FAQ" price changes with many factors (time of the year, number of people..)
Yes sure in November you can pay less as you can pay everything less than September.
3- you booked a 40 minutes tour with a clear description that is clearly a sightseeing of the city

Vito was an excellent tour guide. This is the easiest way to see the main sights especially if you are physically challenged. We were taken to some great photo stops and Vito was most helpful in taking photos of us. His commentaries were informative and he answered all our questions. Thanks for a great tour Vito!

We were met at our B&B on time and as promised by the driver who kept in touch by messenger.
The tour was not extensive but showed us 3 or 4 different points of viewing of the caves and a couple of main churches. We were dropped off at tge main church square.

Vito was an excellent tour guide, who grew up in Matera and had extensive knowledge of the history of Matera.
Vito was very pleasant and a very safe Tuk-Tuk driver.
We had briefly walked the historic cave city the day before, but didn't understand that most of the caves actually look like a normal building, due to their building-like facade.

SInce Viator never confirmed my email address until 6 messages and calls later I did not receive the voucher until last minute and I advised suppler that morning about delays with voucher instructions and then traffic, causing us to be 15 min late. Well we then had our tour shortened because we were late! It felt very rushed and we could not hear him talking he was too soft spoken.

It was a very quick flit round Matera and we felt very short changed!
We arrived well before our 10am slot but our driver arrived at least 10 minutes late, so not a good start! Driver was clearly getting over a cold, he was certainly not at his best. No earphone facility so it was difficult to hear what he said with the engine and traffic noise. We stopped briefly at two points (the archeological work and a church) for a quick glimpse as he said he had to get back for another ride so we had to be quick! There were no entrances to sites included as had been advertised for this tour which was extremely disappointing.
