What are people saying about Kyoto

I do Western/target...
I do Western/target archery so was very excited to try this experience. I found it to be similar yet different in a fascinating way. We were taught by a master who has been practicing for much longer than I've been alive. There were 4 of us and we each shot 5 arrows, which I thought was a good amount, as shooting a bunch of arrows with no input is worthless, so the small class size was important so that we all got some coaching from the master for each shot. I found myself improving with each arrow. We also got given some resources and the chance to read a translated kyudo manual which were very interesting. I am now looking into kyudo in my area so that I can continue practicing.

Lovely Tea Ceremony
Completed the tea ceremony and calligraphy with my husband today. I loved my kimono and hair style! The ladies were very flattering and professional as they dressed us. They even said we could wear our kimonos out all day at the end of the ceremony! My husband’s outfit was very handsome. Great photo opportunities and beautiful, authentic ceremony. Amazing for the price!! Amazing for any price!

Beautiful tea ceremony!
We loved this tea ceremony! It was great learning about the rituals and steps involved in traditional matcha preparation and drinking. It definitely made us appreciate this drink even more. The sweets were also delicious, and everyone was super nice. Thank you for the lovely time!

Beautiful and Authentic Experience
We had a fantastic time at the kimono tea ceremony in Kyoto Oritzuruya. The setting was calm and traditional, creating a truly authentic cultural experience. The host was warm, welcoming, and explained each step clearly, making it easy to follow and appreciate. Wearing the kimono added something special, and the calligraphy session was a fantastic bonus—such a fun and memorable hands-on experience. Highly recommend for anyone wanting a genuine taste of Japanese culture.

Relaxing, elegant and informative
It was exceptionally relaxing. If you are staying in Kyoto, the owner of the tea house is also the proprietor at the hotel GOCO near the Nishiki market, and you can get a discount on the tea ceremony. Do a bit of stretching beforehand if you are not used to sitting in the floor for about period of time.

A wonderful afternoon.
I booked this for my partner who tells me she had great fun. It provided a good overview of the traditional dress and tea ceremony, without being too formal. The ceremony itself takes about 45 minutes and whilst you can sit on the floor, there are low stools available if you’d rather not. You are able to stay in your kimono for a while after the ceremony has taken place (if you want to), giving you lots of photo opportunities. All the staff were really friendly and helpful.

Amazing Tour!!
Wang, our tour guide was incredible. She was so kind and helpful! She did such a great job giving us knowledge about Kyoto's culture, history, and food. It was such a nice time we would highly recommend doing the tour even if you are experienced in travelling Kyoto. It’s always a good time learning from a locals experience!

This is a must
Wow! This was amazing. We got to hold ancient Samurai swords, learn about Zen meditation and its importance in focusing the mind for Samurai. We then learned proper sword technique and did real sword practice! So much more in depth than we had imagined. Must do!

Tea in Kyoto.
A friend of mine who travels to Japan often suggested a tea ceremony. This was my second trip to Japan and Kyoto. I was so happy to experience this authentic tradition and learn about the history.
Our hostess was lovely and made us feel very welcomed. Great experience!
I even bought a matcha brush after this event and being introduced to Matcha.

Much needed calming cultural experience
Really enjoyed the tea ceremony, especially my first time being to Japan and wanting to learn more about the culture. Our instructor was so kind and gracious with teaching us how to make our own matcha, and the experience was heightened by choosing to rent the kimonos for the experience as well! After all the shopping in Tokyo, this was a much needed serene cultural experience and I would recommend any first time travelers to absolutely include this in their trip!

A not to be missed experience.
A friendly welcome where the providers took time to help you select a kimono that you liked and recommended accessories and help with hair. They took lots of photographs of the experience and our costume which left us with plenty of images of the day. Everything was explained so you knew the significance of what you were doing. You were made to feel very welcome and as though you were visiting a home as well as a business. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble to make sure you enjoyed the experience.

Best Experience Ever!
Riku provided the best experience I’ve encountered thus far on my Japan Visit. I feel like I went through actual training to become a Samurai. I am grateful for the knowledge this museum had to offer. Thank you also to Riu for taking us on a guided tour and allowing us to interact with the history through artifacts.
