If you like to cook do this tour. We had learned so much about fish preparation and had a tasty lunch that we had prepared ourselves. Unique chance to learn from a Japanese fishmonger and we absolutely loved this! The class takes place in the market in a historic building and you will walk away glad to have learned new skills. If you are no good at fish preparation like me, you still won’t be disappointed because you will at least understand where you might need to work on your knife skills and honestly, sashimi made by yourself is quite a special experience.

This was a great time! It was a very informative class on how to properly prepare sashimi! Even if sashimi is not your goal, the teacher did a wonderful job of showing how to filet a fish! I was also able to see how the insides of the fish were removed prior to starting the filet process! I would highly recommend this class because it feels personal as you work your way through learning the craft!

Thank you so much for your kind words! Our motto is to teach each person with care, so I’m truly happy to hear that you felt that way. You were so friendly and cheerful, Stephen Birt, that I also had a great time working with you! I hope this class has deepened your understanding of Japanese food culture. Very informative in a relaxed way. Amazing demonstrations of breaking down each fish step by step and when it was my turn very watchful supervision to ensure the cuts were correct. As well as the fish cutting knowledge lots of fun conversations about life in Kyoto from a local and great recommendations. Highly recommend going on an empty stomach as they provide so much sashimi to eat after. My best experience in Kyoto by far. Highly recommend

Thank you so much for sharing your kind review! We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed the hands-on experience and found the step-by-step demonstrations valuable. It’s wonderful that the conversations about Kyoto and our recommendations added to your experience. Knowing you loved the sashimi we prepared makes us incredibly happy it’s always a joy to share the flavors of fresh fish. We’d be honored to welcome you back next time you’re in Kyoto!

Amazing experience! Very helpful!

They were two guys teaching us how to prepare sashimi from scratch. Although it was difficult to learn, they helped us through the process and let us feel at ease. After preparing the sashimi, they sat down with us and we exchanged a lot of experiences of our countries. It was a very fun experience. Recommended!

Thank you for your comment! We are so glad you are pleased. We enjoyed our lessons very much because you seemed to be very interested in Japanese sushi, sashimi, Japanese food, and knives. We will never forget the smiles on their faces when they finished their sashimi! We hope you will make the most of this experience and try Japanese food at home as well.

A unique experiance of how to prepare sashimi

Emily_S, May 2024
This was a kind of experiance that was so unique I knew I had to try it! We were taught how to prepare and cut 3 different types of fish, which we arranged and ate at the end of the class. The instructors of the class have had years of experiance, and the shop itself is over 400 years old. They were very knowledgeable about fish and could answer many questions. The fish was also delicious. I have never tasted salmon so delicious!
