Top Hawaii Outdoor Activities

The tour was well organized and very enjoyable, starting with a free "flight" of chocolate mini bars (alcoholic/non-alcoholic drinks available, along with more chocolate choices). We had chocolate shakes, which were excellent! The tour was conducted via a van ride, so the group wasn't very large, enough to be practical but not so big as to be crowded.. The tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable (Nicole, from Ireland), and gave us excellent information about the cacao industry, the farm/plantation, the company, its founder and his vision. We learned about growing practices and how the beans are processed, including not just the Maui plantation but other, big chocolate producers like Hershey's and Nestle's. There was a short walk among the plants with a chance to taste some of the cacao while seeing how it is grown, and then a stop at an elevated chocolate bar with a nice view across the channel from other islands. There, we sampled 9 different chocolate bars, including sugar free, which was much better than expected. Back to the van and back to the store where we had the opportunity to buy some of the chocolate we had sampled. You will get more than an adequate fill of chocolate during the tour, so anything beyond the free flight while waiting for the tour to start is kind of overkill. The tour was informative and enjoyable, and the hour and a half went by quite quickly. I learned more about chocolate than I ever imagined, and really appreciate the practices of the Ku'ia Estate in producing a first class product. We brought home more chocolate than I ever have before just to spoil family and friends with some very excellent chocolate products. If I return to Maui in the future, I will definitely make a stop at the store for another shake and more superb chocolate.

What a freaking blast!! I haven’t snorkeled for years, and I was so excited to do it today on my honeymoon. Joe was INCREDIBLE! So instructive and funny and knowledgeable! He made my husband, who’s never snorkeled, and I feel so comfortable. He was communicative and really engaged with the whole group. We truly felt safe under his guidance. Very well organized AND we saw several turtles and got to touch and get pictures with an octopus!! Absolutely unreal! Don’t hesitate - do it!! :)

If you’re visiting Mauna Kea for the first time, this is the tour to go with. Wes was engaging and very knowledgeable about the island and mountain’s history. He also speaks multiple languages making everyone in the group feel included and welcomed. The tour comes with snacks and warm drinks. Most importantly, they can provide you with winter wear which is necessary when you’re on the summit. Safety is also a top priority and their guidelines and reminders are both easy to understand and follow. We didn’t get a photo of the night sky because the moon was too bright but we learned so much about constellations and stars. Overall, highly recommended. Wes is great and you’ll have the best time.
