This paella making class was so much fun! We had the best time learning how to make sangria and paella. The chef was very energetic and got everyone involved. We all had a great time drinking sangria, taking shots, and finally eating the paella we cooked! I would highly recommend for a great experience!

They cancelled on me as they had no other participants for the activity. Came to Valencia solely for this activity.

Response from Host, Dec 2025

We are very sorry, as we mentioned, our chefs had the flu and as it was the only reservation, we offered alternatives. We deeply regret not being able to provide the experience as normal. We apologise profusely.

Wonderful cooking class - highly recommend!

This cooking class was one of the absolute highlights of our trip to Spain. Guillermo (?) led our market visit, and Jose and Christine were the fantastic chefs who taught our class. They are absolute stars! We opted for the seafood paella option, and all the participants had a chance to prepare the ingredients and cook. Jose gave great instructions and lots of useful tips, and Christine showed us how to make delicious sangria. They had a great rapport and really seemed to enjoy teaching. We enjoyed meeting the other participants, and there was great conversation and a lot of laughter. We highly recommend this class!!

Fun and informative!

We enjoyed everything about this experience except the meeting place was not well defined. The address that was given was not where the actual meeting place was. We wandered around the general vicinity and then ended up asking a shop keeper and he told us where to go. Other than that, the experience of going to the market, making the paella and learning more about the Spanish culture was top notch! We felt like we got our money’s worth.

My best paella with My First Paella!

Greyson_H, Jun 2025
València is world-famous for its paella, so we knew we needed to devote some time to learning about and eating it on our visit! This cooking class through “My First Paella” was the perfect way to do both. A tour, a cooking class, and a social activity all in one, you won’t regret this experience! My partner and I were thrilled to spend some time in the wonderful “Mercat de Russafa,” filled with friendly vendors and delicious, local food, as our guide and chef extraordinaire for the day, Ana, showed us the ingredients we would be using for our dish! Chef Ana was extremely kind and very funny as she shared her knowledge of cooking paella, both the technical elements and the power of paella to bring people and families together. Chef Jose was humorous and warm, and kept us laughing and drinking while taking care of everyone. There were many parts of this experience that stood out to me. One was Chef Ana’s explanation of how everyone involved with My First Paella wants to include visitors to Valencia (like myself and most of my group today) in the local culture and community in a real and genuine way, while also respecting and coexisting with the people who live in this beautiful city and are trying to go about their daily lives. So, for example, showing us visitors what it is like to shop in the local Mercat and where our ingredients are coming from, but being very careful to split big groups up and guide us carefully so we don’t block walkways or interfere with the stalls or the customers!! I absolutely loved how intentional they were about this, and it reflects my own beliefs about travel and tourism. The other big thing that stood out to me was how darn good the food was! It’s hard enough to make good paella yourself, I can’t even imagine how hard it must be to teach eight people at two different paella stations how to make two different types of paella at once - but Chef Ana did it and our paella was DELICIOUS!! It was so interesting to learn more about the importance of paella in Spanish (and especially, Valencian) culture, and it was so much fun to cook paella ourselves. My partner and I had some tasty seafood paella the night before our class from a really great local restaurant, but the paella we cooked together in class tasted even better. I could go on and on about this experience - delicious sangria, the opportunity to meet other travelers, feeling like part of the local community - but really, you should go experience it yourself! If you’re coming to Valencia, put “My First Paella” on your calendar.

Food and Drink

You get a brief tour of the market to pick up ingredients for the meal. It is a bit of a hike to the kitchen, so this might be hard for the less mobile traveler. We had 2 chefs helping on 3 paellas. It worked o.k. but having a chef for each one would have been ideal. It was great seeing the methodology for different paellas at the same time. There was a lot of alcohol served with the adventure, and the food was great. It made me appreciate how much goes into making paella.

A delicious cooking afternoon

Frances_F, May 2025
I had such a fun experience! This was my 1st travel cooking class - and has turned out not to be my last. We met on the steps to a church near the Ruzafa market- very easy to find, public, visible spot. We made market stops to find out about all the ingredients & enjoy a few taste samples, then continued on to the cooking kitchen. We started off with delicious sangria & tapas - what else would be more appropriate? Then split into groups - i was making seafood Paella, the other was traditional meat (chicken, rabbit, I think). The cooking was a fun time - explanation of the techniques for prepping & cooking the ingredients, cooking with people. Then we sat down to eat our creation - with more wine and dessert. And it turned out 1 of the guys in my group used to live in my county - what a small world. Paella isn't hard or complicated, it's a great group cooking experience and of course - I turned out delicious!

This was a fantastic experience! Valentin and Christina were awesome - they were knowledgeable and funny, and the paellas turned out great. I've been trying to make paella on my own for many years and this class really helped me get better. In addition, the side dishes were also great. I definitely would recommend this tour for anyone wanting to learn more about making paella

Paella for One

Come prepared to meet interesting people, learn about the history and evolution of paella. Also how to create your own personalized recipe to teach your family and friends.

My first paella - excellent

Michael_K, Nov 2024
What an excellent day. Because of the tragic events in Valencia our numbers were fewer than normal. We met outside the Russafa market, went inside to collect the ingredients required. Off to the kitchens where we were greeted with freshly made Sangria followed by tapas. Then our team gave a spirited, informative presentation of cooking paella as we followed their instructions in preparing and cooking. Best part we then ate our paellas washed down with a couple of glasses of wine. You could not improve on this day, thoroughly enjoyable.

A must do experience in Valencia!!!

Amy_R, Nov 2024
José, Ana and Cristina made this experience unforgettable! I learned a lot about how to cook paella, we had awesome sangrias and tapas! The best patatas bravas I've ever tasted. I had a lot of fun and everything was super delicious! Im literally speechless to describe how much I enjoyed and learned! Don't miss this experience.

Impressive and fun interactive workshop

Sue_W, Oct 2024
Way better than ever imagined. Our party of five well-travelled ladies celebrating a milestone birthday aren’t always the easiest to please but we each thoroughly enjoyed our time with the MyFirstPaella team. It was educational, entertaining and great value. The interactive workshop was impressive, and we each took away some great tips - realising just where our own versions of paella can be improved to be more authentic and impressive.

Excellent class and a fun time!

Susan_J, Oct 2024
This was such a fun class! We went to the market first and learned about seafood, ham and vegetables in paella. Then we went to the kitchen and were greeted with homemade sangria and snacks. We were then separated into groups doing traditional, seafood and vegetable paella. Each of us had different jobs to do to help make it. Afterwards, we sat down and had our paella and a tomato salad with wine. Meet some nice people and the entire staff were excellent! Highly recommend!

Great cooking class!

Patty_A, Oct 2024

Wow….. what a day and what a team of people who looked after us. Anna, John and Christina were so knowledgeable, helpful and made you feel at ease. We didn’t realise the amount of work to make a Paella, it was broken down into straightforward stages. The hospitality along with the cookery lesson was brilliant along with the history of Valencia and the market. Absolutely brilliant and a ‘must do’ Thank you for a great day 👍👍

Paella cooking class.

Wonderful immersive. València experience!

Susan_H, Sep 2024
Wonderful immersive experience with a group of only 12. Our chefs, Jose and Valentine were so fun and experienced and inclusive. Started the experience with shopping for ingredients ta at Mercado, followed by a walk to the kitchen. We were served sangria and tapas before the paella cooking began. Our hosts were passionate about paella and the experience for all. Enjoyed all the local history about Valencia imparted to us. Highly recommend this adventure if you enjoy immersion in the local culture. Bravo! PS We happened to be here on World Paella Day!

Must do Valencia experience!

Julie_D, Sep 2024
So much fun with these great chefs. The food was great and plenty to drink - Salud! Loved learning all about the markets and the history of paella!

Way to Learn Paella Cooking

Eric_G, Sep 2024
Great experience cooking Paella as a group, we each were able to do parts of the process with the chef watching to make sure it turned out amazing. We did the seafood paella and worked side by side with the normal paella team. The trip to the market was interesting to see all the fresh fish, vegetables and fruits.
