One of mainland Spain’s most popular beach destinations, Benidorm, with its prime position on the Costa Blanca, is a particular favorite of English holidaymakers. Overseas visitors flock to its two beaches—Levante and Poniente—to soak up the boundless sun, make the most of the waterfront amusement parks, and take in the wild nightlife. Still, a calmer side of the city exists in its Old Town, where locals fill tapas bars and enjoy enviable sunset views. Meanwhile, other top things to do in Benidorm include kayaking and snorkeling tours of surrounding coves.
Benidorm is package tourism heaven, and the beachside resorts are brimming with tourists July–August. Expect huge crowds, high-season prices, and a buzzing atmosphere if you visit in peak season—and make sure you book well in advance. Alternatively, the shoulder months of May-June and September-October are the best time to snag a bargain and still benefit from the Mediterranean sunshine.
Benidorm’s atmospheric Old Town is best explored on foot, and most hotels and resorts are located within a short walk of the beach. Alternatively, make the most of the city’s Bicidorm bike-sharing system, hop on the bus, or book a taxi. To travel further, the Alicante Tram runs from Denia to Alicante, making several stops throughout Benidorm.
Benidorm doesn’t only have beaches and nightlife—there are also some great hiking trails that run along the Costa Blanca and into Sierra Helada Natural Park. Popular routes include the Puig Campana and Aitana mountains, and the Albir Lighthouse trail.
