Overview

The UNESCO-listed volcano of Mt. Etna and nearby Gorges of Alcantara are two of the most spectacular sights in eastern Sicily, but access via public transportation is a challenge. Our guide Gianni was amazing and full of great information. We also met up with their other group and their guide Luca. Between the two guides, it was one of the best excursions I’ve ever done! The hike looks intimidating, but it’s done in sections that made it easy for everyone.

We got to see all areas of Mt. Etna and our guide Luca was knowable and friendly. I would recommend this excursion to anyone looking to find out more about Mt. Etna. The Gorge was also really cool but I recommend bringing water shoes or sandals!!!

We had a very interesting trip. Our guide Alex was very knowledgeable, informative, helpful and friendly. He was very conscious of our safety at all times. He explained the history of the mountain, the lava flows and the way the trees and plants have adapted to live on different parts of Etna. We went down a lava tunnel and walked around some of the dormant craters. We were shown various lava rocks that contained fools gold and a blue mineral. We then went on to Alcantara Gorge. The rock formations were fascinating. You can wade through the gorge for a better experience and view of the Gorge. I would recommend taking swim wear as the water is about 3 feet deep in some places and you will get wet. Overall it was a great day out! Thank you MrExcurions!
