Highly recommend this hike! Lucas was a great tour guide and made myself and the rest of the group very comfortable throughout the experience. The hike itself isn't terribly difficult. I had never used a harness and ropes like you need for this hike, but Lucas made everyone comfortable and it was easier than I realized. And the views at the top are well worth the effort! Highly receommend the tour!

This was a physically challenging hike, with elements of scrambling and rope-assisted climbing, but that all made it more enjoyable, and the views from the top made every step worth it. Expert guidance from Edu was critical to help us navigate our way up, and he took amazing individual photos and videos of us all once we were up there. If you're looking for something physically challenging with a great payoff, this is it!

It was a difficult but well worth it hike. Our guide instructed us along the way on how to climb over rocks and repel up and down a few places along the mountain. The views on top were one of a kind and our guide took the time to take some great photos of all of us.

Bring water, sunscreen and something to eat! This is definitely beyond just a beginner hike, but if you have any previous hiking experience you’ll enjoy it! Well worth the views

Lucas was great. Laid back, gave clear instructions, good sense of humor, and went the extra mile to get us all amazing photos. I mean, truly amazing.

Challenging but very rewarding experience. You climb over 700m but the views are extraordinary. Requires good fitness. The rock sections were managed well by the tour provider.

HONESTLY THE HARDEST THING IVE EVER DONE IN LIFE😭 however, EDUARDO our guide, Such an amazing soul! My sister and I were the slowest of the group. We were held back because it’s our first time doing such a hard trek. It was sooo hard. If you’re not trained or don’t do this as a daily, you can try but trust me it’s sooo hard! Rock climbing, going high into the mountains, small tracks, you name it, it had everything. But the view from the top is so worth it. You’d think going up is hard… coming back down was even harder😭 Eduardo (our guide) stayed with us the wholeeee time. Going up and going down. I’ve never met someone as sweet, caring and patient like him. If you see this Eduardo, I hope that everyday you have, you have the best in everything. Truly a blessing to having done this with the help of Eduardo. From the two slow canadian girls! Lot’s of love for this soul❤️

This was one of the best experiences I had in Rio. As others have mentioned, this is a very difficult hike so be aware of that. It is intensive on your legs and cardio and there is some climbing if you are afraid of heights. Assuming that all is good for you, I highly highly recommend. Had a blast and the guides were super nice!

I really like this hike. At the top, you can take great photos.
Bring at least 2 L of water maybe 3.
This is not a hike for somebody who is out of shape or fragile.
There are multiple points in the cycle, where you have to climb and maintain three point points of contact. There is a point in this hike when you need to use a rope and a harness to get up and down. This hike is a full body workout. At the end, I could feel every muscle beneath my waist.
You need to be very careful at the top if you’re going to take photos by the edge. There is no safety briefing. This is your safety briefing.
Make sure you eat breakfast before you hike and bring a snack to eat at the top. It said that this hike takes six hours, but maybe it’s because we spent so much time at the top that it was 8 hours until I finished the hike.
Don’t forget to tip your tour guide. They do great work for this hike!

The tour was absolutely amazing! The guide was very attentive, explained every detail in English, and made sure everyone in the group was well taken care of. He even took some fantastic photos for all of us.

What an amazing experience! We really enjoyed this hike so much. The views are absolutely stunning! Our guide Rodrigo was really great, professional and fun and we always felt safe. I highly recommend this to everyone who looks for an adventure and best views of Rio.

Our guide Rodrigo was our guide up this very steep and busy climb. We were glad we opted for his expertise.

Hiking Pedra da Gávea was hands-down one of the most unforgettable experiences of our trip. The trail is challenging, steep in sections, and definitely not for beginners—but with our incredible guide Leo, the whole day felt both safe and thrilling.
The views from the summit were nothing short of spectacular—Rio laid out beneath us with the ocean, city, and rainforest all in one sweeping panorama. Our guide even helped take amazing photos and made sure we had plenty of time to enjoy the top before heading back down.
If you’re considering Pedra da Gávea, do it—and definitely go with a great guide like Leo. It made the experience safer, smoother, and way more fun than attempting it on our own. Highly, highly recommended!

Great experience! Definitely not easy hike but the views were totally worth it. The guides were so supportive and took epic photos and shots of us with their drone! Definitely recommend.
Min_Z, Oct 2025
Get prepared, not an easy one. But the guider is very helpful. The view is the best, but tour itself it’s challenging

Definitely the best hike of my life! Eduardo was amazing. The guy is a LEGEND. He even managed to convince my wife, who is afraid of heights, to climb Carrasqueira. We always felt safe, even on the difficult parts. The views from the top are unbelievable and the drone video is out of this world. Highly recommended!!!

One of the best tours of my life, hands down! The guide Indio is an absolute LEGEND and very very nice. Speaks English well too! We had a ton of fun! Un día Mais de indioooo vamossssss!

Fabulous hike and climb that is a real adventure. Eduardo is thoughtful guide and it is an experience to remember.
Marina_K, Mar 2025
It was a great experience and amazing views, but book at your own risk. We like to challenge ourselves, but not everyone wants to be challenged in vacation. If you are not in very good shape, it may be a daunting experience. The path is not only hiking, but includes bouldering in a few spots.
Samuel_B, Mar 2025
This hike is incredible and absolutely worth it. Our guide Ronald was fantastic and very knowledgeable. This is a DIFFICULT hike but you will be very glad you did it.
Gregory_D, Feb 2025
Rodrigo is an amazing guide explains everything to perfection, very patient and speaks great English. He’s very knowledgeable about Rio and lots of other things. Pedra de Gávea was very challenging but with the help of Rodrigo we were able to do it. I recommend him 100%.
Brayan_N, Jan 2025
Eduardo and Ronald were amazing! They took time to get to know everyone’s name. Super helpful and accommodating.
Kyle_C, Dec 2024
Rodrigo was an incredible host, with one of the best experiences in Rio. This was well worth the trip.
Erin_B, Dec 2024
We are so glad we did this hike! It was a little more challenging than we expected, but we had a smaller group and were able to finish in less than 6 hours. The views were incredible and we saw some wildlife. Eduardo was our guide and went above and beyond to make sure we felt safe and were having a great time. He also took so many cool photos of us!
Frank_M, Nov 2024
We had a great experience with this climb , with Rodrigo , his expertise and knowledge made all the difference, he will comunicate since the day before to give you instructions and the meeting point, very patient and helpful , whenever you need a break or help during the climb, awesome place and views ! Pd . This is not an easy hike .
Mark_G, Sep 2024
Great hike with amazing guide Rodrigo. Stunning view and cool climbing, all very safe. Nice wild life.
Shanice_A, Sep 2024
This hike with Rodrigo exceeded expectations. It was a great workout, thrilling, and had beautiful views. It was challenging so would do this one only if you’re pretty active, but he also has easier hikes you can do instead. Rodrigo gave detailed explanations of how to climb so although we were so high up climbing on rocks at an angle, we still felt safe. He explained facts about where we were hiking including about some of the animals we heard/saw. Very friendly guide who clearly loves what he does. Would do it again and would recommend!!!!

Place was beautiful, probably the most beautiful in the city. View was definitely worth it. However, they probably should have divided hikers into intermediate and advanced. 4 of us were huffing and puffing and the tour guide, Edu, didnt even check to see how we were. It also seemed like he was racing with the other guides to get to the top. The pace was a bit fast for some of us who felt bad that we were slowing down the entire group. He was generous enough to take pictures and knew the best camera angles but unlike some of my previous hiking guides, he was not very encouraging and seemed annoyed that not everyone knew how to hike quickly and use the rope. I understand he has done this tour 100+ times in a year and is probably tired of all the "slow" hikers so likely best to divide up the group and assign the slow ones to a more patient guide.
