What To Expect

Be ready at your hotel at 8 a.m. for convenient pickup. Be sure to wear sturdy hiking shoes and bring a backpack with sunscreen, water, and snacks to fuel your climb. In a comfortable tour vehicle, travel to the Tijuca Rainforest to begin your trek, which lasts about 4 hours in total (2.5 hours up, 1.5 hours down).

Hike through the rain forest with your guide, a strenuous trek suitable for experienced climbers in good physical condition. Stop for rest and photo breaks, keeping an eye out for colorful butterflies and native monkeys.

Scramble up a near-vertical rock wall to reach Gavea Rock, which features epic views of Rio. Rest and enjoy the view before heading back the way you came, ending up back at your Rio hotel for drop-off.
