Itinerary

Choose a small-group or private tour when you book. Then, after pickup from your Prague hotel, set off in an air-conditioned off-road 4x4 toward the mountains of the Central Bohemian Uplands.

En route, soak in the varied landscapes of lush pastures, orchards, and forested hills, and hear from your guide about Central Bohemia’s history and culture.

Stop first at Raná, a mountain popular with paragliders. Watch for the rare ground squirrels that forage here, and make stops to experience the spectacular views over the surrounding mountains. Take in the rows of cone-shaped peaks, learning how the conical contours are evidence of the mountains’ ancient volcanic origins.

Travel to a local goat farm, and meet the friendly goat farmer. See the goatherds, and sample some of the delicious goats’ cheese as you learn how it’s made. Hear about the daily running of the farm, and perhaps buy some other local specialties produced here.

Stop at a charming local restaurant for an à la carte Czech lunch.

Back in your 4x4, travel through steppes to see the region’s ‘stone suns.’ View these strange, sun-shaped geological formations, created by ancient volcanic eruptions, before continuing to a local garnet factory.

Learn how Bohemian garnets have been prized for their deep red color since medieval times, and try your hand at panning for the precious stones in a river.

Before returning to Prague, stop by at a mysterious castle. Tour the remains of the medieval fortification, one of the most intriguing in Bohemia, and then end your trip with a hotel drop-off in Prague.

Before saying goodbye, receive a photo of you and your group by the 4x4 as a reminder of your day.

This was one of the highlights of my trip! First I have to say I was the only one booked for this tour. The operator told me this was the first time there was only one person in a really long time. They could have easily cancelled, especially since it was also a holiday, but they did not and I really appreciated that. I had a great driver out to the country where I switched over to the Offroad Safari guy. He was fun and really loves the area. I don't want to belabor all the stops as they are in the tour description and I also don't want to take any of the fun out of the little touches/surprises they do. The guide stopped to look at things I was curious about in and was interesting person with a lot of local and historical knowledge. I was interested in WWII and Communism and he had interesting information on both in that area. I am a foodie so eating is a BIG deal to me. My favorite meal of the whole trip was at the place we ate at on this tour. He said they always go there so you would too if you go. The place was perfect and so was the food. He picked everything at my request and it could not have been better. This is a low key day. If you love the country, this is for you. Awesome scenery, interesting geographical region, great food with a personable guide is what I experienced. Could not say enough about the most memorable day I had in Northern Bohemia with Offroad Safari!

This trip was really excellent and interesting! It combined a little bit of everything: geology, history, local culture, etc. The countryside of Northern Bohemia really is beautiful, and provides a very different view of Czech life than one gets from the hustle and bustle of Prague. Martin, the guide, is superb--very friendly, speaks English well, and very knowledgeable about the region that he clearly loves. Finally, the lunch that is included is also quite good, with full free choice from an extensive menu at a nice local restaurant including beer!. All in all, an excellent value for a very worthwhile experience.
