We would heartily recommend this tour. Tiago was a marvelous wealth of information as his family has lived here for generations. His warm and gentle nature kept it open to ask many questions. The scenery was gorgeous and Tiago got us to the best viewing spots. And the lunch at his family's restaurant was fabulous. We had a comfortable car, beautiful weather and a delightful day.

Neilton was a fantastic guide. He tools us to places that the buses couldn’t get to. He was kind and professional. He took us to his family’s restaurant for lunch and it was wonderful.

We were picked up promptly from our ship by our guide. Unfortunately we had a lot of fog on the first part of the tour and did not see much on the overlooks...not the tours fault. Once we got on the other side of the island it was beautiful and we had great views. Lunch was at the Guide's family restaurant. There was a spectacular view of the ocean and the food was very good. The staff was great and we enjoyed it very much. We drove through some small towns that were very nice. Our guide was able to accommodate our request to make a quik stop at the pineapple farm. We appreciated that.

Private tour was spectacular and very flexible to the customers. The best part was eating delicious Azores lunch at the tour guide’s family restaurant. A lifetime resident of the Azores, the tour guide had very interesting history and details about the region. Highly recommend this tour.

Great Tour with a local. Accommodated our request for a short hike and chose a fantastic, scenic short trail well suited to our abilities. Great lunch included at his family's restaurant with amazing view over the north coast. Lovely guide. Would certainly recommend this tour!

Tiego was a great tour guide. We loved having a private guide and vehicle instead of being with a large cruise group on a bus. The included lunch at his family's restaurant was delicious and had a beautiful view. I highly recommend this tour.

Our disembarkation was delayed about 15 minutes, yet our guide, Tiago, was there. The weather was extremely cloudy and misting so Tiago explained the clouds would prohibit us from seeing Sete Cidades as planned that morning; however, he had recommendations for a few other sites that turned out to be extremely interesting and entertaining. We went to the oldest pottery factory where everything is made by hand and got to see how each step of the process was done. We also visited the only tea growers and processors in Europe (with a tour) and learned all about tea! Along the way, Tiago asked if there was anything we would enjoy seeing and we told him we like to visit churches. We stopped at a cathedral with a very interesting history and had as much time there as we wanted. He also showed us some of the various villages and country side and we gained some interesting information along the way. While lunch was included, we did not expect a 3 course meal at a family run restaurant! We were given choices for each course and the food was delicious... so much so, we were too full for dessert! We highly recommend this tour!!!

Such a wonderful tour. Thiago our guide was such a knowledgeable person about what, when and why to visit each one of the places. He is a native of the island, that makes him love the place and therefore transmits that energy. We just had a great time. He was great with the kids, flexible with time and places. Really you won’t regret. We highly recommend this tour. For a perfect closing we had a wonderful meal at a very nice restaurant, with delicious food and an amazing view to the sea and north coast of the island. Do not think anymore and reserve the tour. We just loved it.

It was a lot of fun and our guide was great. He created an itinerary just for us since we had been to Ponta Delgada already. Lunch was included at his family's restaurant. It was very good. The fresh cheese and bread were excellent.

Tiago picked us up 5 minutes early in a nice, spotless Mercedes. He took us up to the Westside of the island, stopping frequently so we could get photos. He’s an excellent tour guide, familiar with the geology, topography and history of the island. He also gave us tips on where we could stay in the smaller seaside villages. He took us to black sand beaches with amazing outcroppings that provided amazing photos.
I would have given a five star review just with the tour portion of the experience but then my husband and I had a fabulous meal at Tiago’s family restaurant, 4 Platanos, overlooking the sea. We have had the opportunity to have many good meals and this one was stellar! Excellent salads and a bread basket were followed up by the entrees. I had the grilled red snapper and my husband had steak. I’m a wimp so they removed the head for me. By the time passion fruit cheesecake and coffee were served, the restaurant was packed with tourists and locals.
We enjoyed coffee upstairs on the deck and were rewarded with amazing birdsongs.
We tore ourselves away and finished the tour with several more stops in the now dormant whaling village. Tiago knew we wanted to go by the pineapple plantation on our own and provided a side jaunt on the way back to the hotel.
Everything was top shelf. We highly recommend this tour.

Our guide was waiting at the port doors. Closer than those who purchased a cruise excursion. He had a comfortable and clean car. Very gracious to open our doors and made sure we safely exited and entered the car. He was very accommodating to my many questions and well informed about the island’s history. Great tour that included a lovely full lunch by the sea.

Nilton of 4Plantanos was an excellent and knowledgeable tour guide. He was very informative regarding the life, history and cultures of the Azores Islands and took us to the many highlights of the north part of Sao Miguel Island. We enjoyed our lunch at Nilton’s family restaurant which was included in the tour. Highly recommend 4Plantanos tours and would definitely use this operator to see the rest of the island during our next visit.

From the moment we were picked up, we knew we’d made the right choice! This small enterprise of two brothers (and their family restaurant) is a perfect way to see the west side of the island, culminating in a FABULOUS lunch (with equally amazing views). We loved this tour! We booked it last minute when our flight was cancelled and we had a full day in the Azores instead of a brief layover. This delay ended up being one of the best days of our trip, thanks to Ludgero. He and his family run this tour, which included lunch at their family restaurant, 4 Plantanos. We saw more than we anticipated and Ludgero was so kind and entertaining. The island is indescribably beautiful! We definitely will return for a full trip to the Azores and will use this company again! The tour ended with lunch, which was the best meal we had in two different trips to Portugal. Absolutely delicious!

Our guide Tiago was excellent. Personable and relaxed. Driving us to multiple view points and stopping whenever we wanted to jump out to take a photo. The included lunch, with several choices and generous portions, was also great. It was at his family’s restaurant, above the sea, with excellent views. We couldn’t have asked for a better day.

We loved every moment of this trip. There were four of us on the tour. We saw breathtaking vistas and countryside. “Lou”, our driver was friendly and very knowledgeable. He gave us plenty of time to explore, take pictures and ask questions. We ended up at the Platanos family restaurant and it was a delicious Portuguese dinner. I ate a delicious Red Fish dinner and delightful homemade desserts. My husband had the steak and raved about his meal. We were full heading back to our cruise ship.

We had a wonderful day! We were picked up on time at the port and drove all over the west side of the island. The scenery was amazing and our guide, Tiego, was so friendly and informative. We were even brought to their family restaurant at the end to have an authentic Portuguese meal! It was delicious! This was one of the best tours I have ever been on!! It was a great day!!

We did this tour with 2 brothers from 4Plantanos (a family business run very efficiently) and had a truly special day making memories as we toured the areas. We have no reservations whatsoever recommending this company and these two brother guides Tiago and Nilton. First, our ship was delayed getting into port and brothers Tiago and Nilton, were already waiting for us. I sent a message through Viator alerting them to our port arrival delay and they replied immediately to not worry. I was impressed how responsive they were but have to admit throughout this booking process, this company was very responsive and very easy to deal with! We were a group of 4 generous-sized adults and realized we could not tour together in one vehicle so Tiago arranged 2 cars at no extra charge to us. We would have happily paid more but made sure to compensate them by giving a better tip. We saw so many beautiful sites around the Sete Cidades area and both brothers were very knowledgeable about all facets of the areas visited. We never expected to see such lush foliage and unique fences of stone and hydrangea bushes. The two lakes in the caldera were stunning and with a bit of fog rolling in, a bit ethereal. We drove past a fascinating moss-covered aqueduct before driving down into the city and stopped at several overviews back toward the caldera as well as out to sea which were spectacular sites to behold! And little did we know how many cows we would see out in lush green fields with stone or hydrangea fences. The volcanic hillsides were covered in brilliant green foliage resulting in scenes that could have been in Ireland or England. We stopped at the village church and were able to go inside to see a unique ceramic mosaic in the baptismal font area. From here, we stopped at another mountain overview in the far NW where we had beautiful coastal views. Around each corner, we saw stunning scenery even this late into the tourist season. Next was a huge surprise for us - Tiago and Nilton took us to their family restaurant overlooking the ocean for an included delicious full lunch of local wine, bread with local cheeses, a special steak dish or local fish (both entrees were so tasty) and dessert which we never got to since we were so full! What a treat giving us the chance to eat authentic Portuguese foods and such a special touch. We stopped at a local cemetery and further drove down to the seaside fishing and swimming ponds with a rocky shoreline. From here we drove back to Ponta Delgada and had a quick tour of a few sites here, too. Our tour was only 4 hours but we saw everything we wanted and was described in the tour synopsis.
You won’t go wrong booking with this company and I recommend it without reservation! You will have a beautiful day and feel like you are saying goodbye to good friends by the tour’s end.

The entire tour was fabulous. The driver accommodated our late docking. He was very knowledgeable and provided a detailed tour of the beautiful island in Azores. We had a delicious lunch at his family’s restaurant. I highly recommend this tour company

Sadly, high winds & squalls prevented our ship from docking at ponta Delgada. However, we give a 5-star rating to our Viator tour operator, Tiago Costa, who stayed in constant contact in the hours our ship attempted to dock. We so appreciated his communication. Highly recommend!

Nice to travel around the island and see the sites. Clouds covered the caldera but Tiago, our guide, showed us a lot in the time we had. The lakes were visible and can't say enough about the foliage in bloom, especially along the roadside. Hydrangeas and lilies on both sides of the road where we went. Saw a black sand beach and the lava formations are pretty cool. Had a exceptional and tasty lunch (provided) at the tour guides family restaurant. Having a very flavorful meal while looking out a the beach was one of the highlights of the excursion. Also nice to find an excursion that is private, my wife and myself only, and to be picked up right outside of the entry terminal and then dropped off there too. Highly recommend!

Tiago showed us much of the island. The flowers and flowering bushes were beautiful, they framed the road on both sides for much of the tour. Tiago shared the island's historic and geographic stories, we found him to be very informative. And lunch at Tiago's family restaurant was delicious!
