These are the most beautiful gardens. Delightful plantings of huge dahlias, peonies roses. —Magnificent weeping willows, evergreen and mimosas. In the lily pond you can imagine Monet in front of his easel. Inspirational. Also enjoyed the old mill, chapel and gravesite portions of the tour. Our tour guide. Wendy Sam was exceptional and lots of fun!

It was nice. Our tour guide was sweet and answered all of our questions.
But most of the tour is done in your own.

Giverny is stunning, BUT, summertime is not the time to go; it’s crowded, I mean like busiest metro terminal you can picture, busy! The flowers are finished blooming (for the most part) our guide was useless, he walked us to the waterlines, said 1 sentence about the reflection on the water, walked us back to the other garden, told us we could try to get in the house but it would take a long time, then said, we should wander for and hour, he was going to be outside. This is about the 6-7th tour I’ve booked through Viator and they’ve been great, but this was a bust, and they’ve guide really made the experience a disappointment. If you go, don’t use this tour group.
Response from Host, Jul 2026
We’re very sorry to hear that your experience did not meet expectations. Giverny can indeed be extremely crowded during the summer high season, which can unfortunately affect the flow of the visit.
That said, we take your feedback about the guiding very seriously. Could you please let us know the name of your guide so we can review the situation internally?

Despite it supposed to being a 8 person tour, the guide indicated that he was not permitted to provide information inside the garden because he was not certified and could be removed from the property if he did so. However, the guide for the other van did provide a walking tour and commentary within the gardens for that group.
In addition, he provided virtually no commentary during the drive to the location and did not use the microphone available in the van until the return journey. We specifically booked and paid for a small-group guided experience, yet received very little guidance, historical context, or information throughout the day. The tour description emphasizes a guided experience, and that was a significant factor in our decision to book. Had we simply wanted transportation to and from the gardens and house, we would not have paid the premium price associated with this tour.
We also observed numerous tour guides providing commentary within the gardens, further suggesting that Arthur’s explanation was either inaccurate or misleading. If he was genuinely unable to guide us within the gardens, that limitation should have been clearly disclosed in the tour description.
Additionally, we have concerns regarding safety. During the drive, Arthur was traveling in excess of 140 km/h, significantly above the posted speed limit. At one point, he had to brake aggressively because he failed to notice traffic slowing to a stop ahead of us. This created an uncomfortable and concerning situation for passengers.
Overall, this experience fell far short of what was advertised and what we reasonably expected when booking a guided small-group tour. The lack of commentary, conflicting explanations, and unsafe driving made for a very disappointing experience. Based on conversations during and after the tour, it was clear that the other members of our group felt similarly misled and dissatisfied.
Response from Host, Jun 2026
We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your experience.
After several years of operating the Giverny tour, and due to the extremely high level of crowds, we believe the best option is to provide an introduction before the visit and then allow clients free time inside the gardens to explore at their own pace. This is clearly stated in the tour description.
Regarding safety, this is always our priority. Please note that all our vans are connected to a GPS system that alerts us in case of overspeeding, and we did not receive any alerts during this tour. Our manager has also double-checked this. However, we understand that you may have felt uncomfortable with the driving, and we are sorry for that.
Kind regards,
- Alice

Prior planning with advice to arrive at garden for 9 am opening. Tour guides and van were late at meet up location. Only got brief intro of Monet family tree and gravesite with the guide and then I was left to wander. Beautiful sunny morning in the garden made it worthwhile. I missed seeing inside his home due to the number of visitors. Exit through the gift shop was a confusing cluster and again waited 15-20 minutes for all the group and guide at time of departure. Exiting and end of tour instructions were not clear.
Response from Host, Jun 2026
Thank you for your review.
We’re sorry the experience did not fully meet your expectations. During high season, the site can be extremely crowded, which may affect timing and flow of the visit.
We appreciate your feedback regarding the schedule and instructions and will take it into account.

This was a really nice tour as a small group of seven. We were met promptly, introduced to our driver/guide, and arrived in an hour. Our guide had a nice guide of photos with him to show us some background on Monet and gave good advice on how to see the house and gardens. Arrived safely back in Paris right by Metro station to finish up the morning right on time. We had plenty of time to see the house, garden, and museum in Giverny. Would recommend although felt that the cost was a little pricey.

Thank you for your feedback.
We’re glad you enjoyed the small group experience, the guide’s insights, and the smooth timing of the tour.
We appreciate your recommendation.

This tour would have been fine, except for the extreme heat, and the tour company did not even send a cooler with water along with us, as most Tours we’ve experienced would do (even not in such extreme weather)! Most of us had a water bottle, but by the time we arrived at Giverny, the water was warm… and after walking around the extremely hot gardens, we desperately needed more. The only water available was sold in a machine in the gift shop for which there were long lines. (Each bottle cost two euros).
One of the passengers (not an older person), had a severe reaction to the 100° F heat! But all of us were extremely uncomfortable.
When I asked the tour guide/driver why the Tour company did not provide a cooler with cold water for the eight of us, he said they are a new company, that it was an inexpensive tour, and that this might be something that Americans do, but it is not customary for the French.
So…the French do not appreciate record-breaking heat temps in summer? C’est un peu incroyable!
To be fair, our Giverny tour guide/driver was surely hot, as well, and had already led an earlier tour there from Paris. He was fine as a guide, sharing information about Monet and the area. It occurs to me that the Tour company (Blue Fox?) likely didn’t offer him any cold water either!🥵
The tour operators are not identified in Viator, but I would ask about it and avoid doing any of this company’s tours again!
Response from Host, Jun 2026
Thank you for your feedback, and we’re sorry to hear that the extreme heat affected your experience and made the day uncomfortable.
We completely understand how challenging the conditions were during the heatwave, and we appreciate you highlighting the situation. Please note that on our tours, we do not provide food or water, and guests are kindly asked to bring their own, especially on full-day excursions. However, our tours do include a lunch break where refreshments can be purchased.
Our guides are also always happy to stop en route if guests need to buy water.
Kind regards,
- Alice

Gardens were beautiful and we had a very nice time exploring the gardens. Not much to see in the house. Tour was self directed which we knew and were ok with. If you are looking for a historical guided tour this is not the one for you.
Response from Host, Jun 2026
Thank you for your feedback.
We’re glad you enjoyed the beautiful gardens and had a pleasant time exploring.
We appreciate your note about the self-guided format and understand this may not suit those looking for a fully guided historical tour.

Enjoyable visit to Giverny with Nicholas
Good directions to the meet up where Nicholas was waiting to welcome us.
He was very communicative throughout our time together.
First stop at the cemetery before heading to the beautiful house & gardens. There was ample time to enjoy everything without rushing & the small group was ideal. Transport was comfortable & thankful for air conditioning on such a hot day.
Merci Nicholas from the Canadians!

It was an incredible tour, with a wonderful tour guide. It allowed me to see Giverny when I may not have otherwise been able to as a solo traveller. It was so nice to sit back and relax and have everything sorted! The gardens and the house itself was an incredible experience too.

This was a great tour. You get to see the beautiful countryside of Normandy on your drive to Giverny. The tour guide, Brune from Brie, was so informative not only on local history but also on the best way to explore the gardens. I would highly recommend this tour.

Our Guide Michel gave us an excellent tour and provided historical. context on Monet’s journey. Grade 5

Perfect transfer. Very easy to find the place and the van. The transfer is about one and a half hours non stop. Take some water with you if you want to drink some.
Theo was amazing guide. He explains a lot about the road and the place. Everything was on plan with nice french sense of humor.

Wonderful tour with small group of 8. Knowledgeable guide used notebooks instead of the annoying microphones .
DanaJ_S, Jun 2026
Our guide Martijn van Elferen was an absolute delight. He was courteous, professional, well versed in the story of Giverny and Monet. It was an easy pick up in Paris and a lovely drive to Giverny. He has very eclectic taste in music on the drive so something for everyone. The gardens are beautiful, the house is remarkably as it was in monet’s time. Gift shop and cafe were perfect. Not overly touristy.

Small, intimate group tour. Very pleasant and informative tour guide.
Nice to travel in a small van and not be hassled with trying to figure out how to get there!
Christopher_N, Jun 2026
For the 8 a.m. trip, these folks get you to Monet's house about 30 minutes early, which is good. We were about 5th in line to enter. We toured the gardens first before the house. Again, this was good because the tours and crowds had yet to arrive and wouldn't ruin our photos.
Pamela_B, Jun 2026

The trip out to Giverny is about an hour but the drive feels quick. The town is beautiful and so are the gardens. You have plenty of time to explore both.
This is my second tour with this company and they are fantastic. Knowledgeable and very friendly. Way better than a larger tour group.

An easy day with all around beauty. The gardens were so fragrant and filled with Irises, lilac, roses, and lavender. Monet did us a great service by passing on his love of the outdoors with such style. Our guide, Anatole, was just the best; an A+. So knowledgeable about the history, gracious in answering our barrage of questions, and an all around great person who knows his stuff and seems to love what he does.
