Go birding with Mario!

We had an amazing experience in a morning with Mario! We saw over 50 species— 20+ were new lifers for us. Mario worked to help us find the species which we were most interested to see— plus he went above and beyond in giving us free coffee, empanadas, and fruit. He has a space to use clean bathrooms while watching feeder birds too. He was very conscientious about our physical abilities. He is an excellent teacher and guide and a kind soul.

We had a fantastic time with Mario during our birding tour. We saw hummingbirds, trogons, flycatchers, and so many more species throughout the day. Mario was very professional, extremely knowledgeable, and well spoken. If you are at all interested in birding and in Panama this is a must-do experience!

Perfect nature tour!

Mario was the perfect nature tour guide! He was very knowledgeable and helped us locate and view so many bird species as well as many mammals, and a sloth! Since this was our first time to Panamá, he oriented us to the Gamboa and Pipeline Trail area as well. He was such an enthusiastic and persistent guide and kept ebird lists for me so that I could just relax and enjoy the wildlife! We could not have asked for a better experience!

We highly recommend this bird and nature sightseeing experience. Mario was a wonderful guide, and his knowledge of birds and wildlife is impressive and matches his passion for nature. Before we even entered Soberania National Park, Mario pointed out agoutis, as well as a sloth and toucans that we were able to enjoy with his telephoto lens and binoculars. The park itself is also amazing - only about an hour's drive from Panama City, we were able to get fully immersed in nature, seeing and/or hearing birds, howler monkeys, frogs, snakes, and leaf cutter ants, and appreciating the lush vegetation of the rain forest. At the end of our walking tour, Mario surprised us with delicious pineapple and ice cold water that we thoroughly enjoyed in his air-conditioned van. We were back at our hotel by 12 noon (pick up was 6 am), leaving the rest of the day free for other activities. This experience is perfect for bird enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. If we return to Panama in the future, we would definitely consider booking another tour with Mario. He is a terrific guide!

We saw a lot of birds, as well as Agoutis, a blue morpho butterfly, a sleeping sloth, leaf cutter ants and howler monkeys. Mario is a great spotter, was flexible but had planned out the tour well, really wanted to show us everything we wanted to see, and brought snacks!

Mario, our guide, for the bird sightseeing tour, was outstanding. We saw between 70 and 100 different species of birds. Quite frankly, I lost count as the day progressed because I was more interested in identifying those I photographed. I was all about the quality, not quantity! To start, Mario picked us up at our hotel--and was 10 minutes early, which meant the sightseeing start early! Our goal was to get to Soberania National Park, but we made several stops along the way and before we even got to the NP, we must have seen 50 different species of birds and several mammals. My wish list was a small one-to see a toucan. This was checked off my list before we got to the park! Mario is very kind and accommodating and he is an expert birder --he seems to have bionic eyes and ears and the patience of a saint! Between his own ability to use bird calls and an app he uses on his phone, we dubbed him the bird whisperer. So many species of birds joined us! On the way back to our hotel, Mario was determined to locate more birds and made additional pitstops. I cannot recommend this tour enough, Mario is one of the best guides we've ever had!

Mario is an expert in birding and his passion for these beloved creatures is truly apparent. He created a unique day of magic for us with his expertise and in-depth knowledge of birding. He identified the birds by their calls and behaviors and readily shared the information - all through the day. Photo opportunities were plentiful with optimal backgrounds to highlight each species unique behaviors, markings and colors. This daytrip was more than bird-watching; it was a day of bird and nature immersion. Our time with Mario was a highlight of our trip!

Our guide Clari was amazing. We saw 45 different species of birds. I could not have seen even half as many on my own and I wouldn't have known what they were. She could hear a bird, identify them by sound and find them with her spotting scope. This was truly an amazing adventure! Thank you Clari!!!!

Mario, the guide, was extremely enthousiastic. He was really good at spotting birds and all other kinds of animals! We saw so many species so close, it was wonderful! As a flight attendant I get to do a lot of tours around the world but Mario was really one of the best guides I’ve ever had. I do really recommend this trip!!

Our guide Samuel picked us up at the cruise terminal promptly at 5:30 am. Samuel was very knowledgeable about the birds and was conversant in other subjects as well. He spotted over 50 species of birds, many of which we got a good look at through his scope.

Amazing Tour observing Wildlife! Mario has an astonishing knowledge concerning not only Birds but all the other Wildlife we encounterd. We saw all kinds of amazing birds (which Mario could all name) monkeys, sloths, a coati and diverse reptilies. Mario was really invested in us having a great experience and we did. A definite recomendation for all nature enthusiasts!!!

We had a fantastic day with Mario. He was extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the subject of birding yet he tailored our tour according to our own level of knowledge. He went out of his way to show us different and unusual things but was also conscious of our need to rest, drink and eat. Mario knew all the specific habitats where particular birds would be found and targeted our tour to find very specific species. We would highly recommend him to anyone interested in the wide variety of birds in Panama. If we return to Panama we would definitely seek him out to explore other birding regions. Thank you Mario for the most memorable day of our visit to Panama.

Toucans and sloths and monkeys!

Mario was INCREDIBLE! He is so passionate about wildlife and really anticipated all of our needs. When I realized my camera lens didn't have a sufficient zoom for some of the birds we were spotting, he actually let me borrow his to get some of the shots I was hoping for. SO kind! He has an amazing eye for finding the most camouflaged creatures...you'll just be driving along and he will casually pull the car over, set up the viewing scope, and voila! "There's a sloth." "Here are some howler monkeys and their babies." "That's an iguana on those rocks." "See the toucan there?" He has bug spray, he has bird calls, he has delicious snacks. (In my case, they had to be gluten-free and he took note to make it happen!) Mario moves quickly enough to help you see lightning-fast birds, yet never makes you feel rushed. He's a problem solver and loves what he does. Do not see Panama with anyone else! Thank you, Mario. We can't wait to come back!
