Amazing experience! Oskar was fantastic and super knowledgeable! The forest is alive and it’s a must have experience in Monteverde. Although it was super rainy and windy we still enjoyed it. Saw a good variety of wildlife and amazing nature. Advice: if it’s rainy - take good waterprooof jackets and pants ^^

Luis was very knowledgeable and friendly. It was a smaller group which allowed us to take more time with the telescope. We saw animals that we would not have spotted without him. He shared information about the plants, trees, insects, birds and animals in the cloud forest. He also gave us good recommendations outside of the cloud forest tour.

Great tour with a tremendous bit of luck!

Brian_L, May 2026
This was a fantastic tour. Our guide was super energetic and very knowledgeable. During the tour we saw just about everything you could dream of. Sloths, Toucans, White face capuchin monkeys, Spider monkeys, Agoutis, and a fer-de-lance!

Best guide

Absolutely incredible experience with our guide Oscar. He was so knowledgeable, friendly and passionate about the wildlife and made the whole tour engaging for both me and my family from start to finish. We saw an amazing range of animals and birds including bats, hummingbirds, quetzals, insects, and some incredibly unique rainforest species that we never would have spotted ourselves. Oscar’s ability to find hidden wildlife was honestly unbelievable, and he explained everything in a really interesting and easy-to-understand way.

Amazing Tour!!

We had an amazing walk with our guide who was very knowledgeable and also you could tell he really cared about the preserve and nature in general. We were very lucky and saw a Quetzal pair and our guide was gushing how lucky we were and he was so excited it made the experience that much better. He has a very nice spotting scope and pointed out all sorts of different birds, frogs, spiders, and we even saw a bunch of white-faced monkeys. He took photos on his phone through the spotting scope and sent them all to us right after which was really nice!

10/10 ⭐️ Experience with Oscar

This was a wonderful way to visit the cloud forest! Oscar was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the local ecosystem and wildlife. After having done a night walk the previous evening, this one was a fun add-on as there was a whole other world stirring in the morning hours. We saw three of the elusive Quetzal, a group of bats inside a ficus tree, and a maw hummingbird feeding her two babies. One caution: I was fully aware that we needed to pay the park entry fee, but I had assumed we would just pay when we got there, and I did not receive any messages ahead of time with further instructions. I realized morning of that under “meeting location” it mentioned you had to buy tickets online for the 8:00am entry, but by that point it was sold out. We were able to purchase an entry time in person for 7:45 once we got there, but it added a moment of unnecessary stress if it had been a little more clear early on. So —- be sure to read the specifics under “meeting location” and/or reach out to the guide ahead of time to verify!

Olé Oscar!

Katherine_M, Mar 2026
As always with a wild life tour, its luck with what you can see... however I've never had a guide with such good ears and eyes. Oscar was able to locate, show and educate the group on a range of interesting flora and fauna. We saw so much wonderful wildlife and learnt so much! Its also worth noting that Oscar's management of different personalities within the group was exceptional so everyone had a good experience. If returning to the area I would not hesitate to book another tour with Oscar

Oscar met us promptly,...

Rachel_D, Feb 2026
Oscar met us promptly, had great equipment and a lot of knowledge. We spotted tonnes of cool animals and birds and Oscar had an awesome camera attachment to his scope that meant we got some brilliant pictures which he sent to us at the end of the tour. Would definitely book again if we came back.

Although the weather was cloudy and rainy it was the perfect time to experience the Cloud Forest. Our tour guides Oscar was very knowledgeable about the cloud forest, the trees, plants, animals & birds. Was nice to have a copy of the pictures that he took with the spotting scope that he sir dropped to us.

Outstanding jungle tour

A guide with passion and enthusiasm

Kenneth_W, Jan 2025
Oscar was a great guide with enthusiasm and passion for the cloud forest and area. Even in rain, he found us very interesting things and followed up with the info behind it.

Must-do in Monteverde!

Laney_D, Jan 2025
This was our first activity we did in Monteverde and what a way to start our vacation! Our tour guide Oscar was friendly, funny, knowledgeable, and passionate about the unique nature and wildlife of Costa Rica's cloud forest. Keep in mind there is some luck involved with how many animals you will see, but ask lots of questions and you will get the most out of your experience. This is a must-do in Monteverde and I highly recommend this tour.

Guide is super poor

Jing_Y, Dec 2024
Worst tour I ever had for a long time. Tour guide we had has no interest besides plants in the park. His spotting scope was used like twice during the entire trip? Animals etc were mostly found by the tourists like us :(. No interest in explaining anything on the animals we found like pigs etc… super disappointed as the whole family needs to wake up very early for it and we were excited to experience the park. Last thing to mention: not the tour company’s fault. Park changed the policy to get the ticket at a different place instead next to entrance first. Our tour started at least 40 mins post 7. This cut short of the entire tour

Great morning walk

Krystel_T, Sep 2024
Oscar was very knowledgeable! He is a walking encyclopedia. Knows alot about all the plants and birds and animals. We learned sooo much. We saw a pit viper, a tarantula, coatis, many birds, an active hummingbird nest, and many flowers/plants. Would recommend!

Great experience!

Megan_S, Aug 2024
Oscar was a wonderful guide! Very knowledgeable and friendly. We would not have seen nearly as much with our untrained eyes. Highly recommend!

Lovely experience!

Brooke_P, May 2024
I saw and learned so much about the animals all around me, none of which I would have been able to spot without my guide!

Beautiful and Educational Experience!

Madeline_A, May 2024
I highly recommend this tour to anyone who is visiting the Monteverde Cloud Forest. Our guide, Andrey, was absolutely amazing. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the forest and all of the creatures living within it; especially birds, considering he has been researching and studying birds of Costa Rica for years. Visiting the forest would have been lovely, but it would not have been the same without Andrey as our guide. My friend and I have both found a new appreciation and love of birds.

Fantastic experience

Felix_B, Feb 2024
We went with Oscar. where do we start to explain what an absolutely delight it was to be with him. obviously a super nature lover and a person that excites you for the adventure you are about to have. 3 minutes into the park we saw the quetzal, a humming bird mama nesting, peccaries crossing the trail and so much more. we kept talking about this fantastic adventure for the entire day and night. absolutely 100% recommended and hands down the best guide ever - Oscar, thank you we were blessed to have you

Great Nature Walk

Carolyn_R, Jan 2024
We had Steven as our guide and he was the best guide I've had to date! It turned out there were only 4 of us in our group which was great as I wasn't sure how big they would let them get. We saw many animals and birds, and Steven was so informative and we learned more than we anticipated. I would definitely do it again as I imagine it's never the same experience.

Encountering beautiful nature of costa rica

Takayoshi_K, Nov 2023
Such a memorable experience! Our guide taught us a lot of interesting facts about the rainforest. We were also very lucky to see many rare birds like a quetzal and a toucan!

Fantastic morning walk through the Cloud Forest with our guide!

Stephanie_D, May 2023
Getting a guide for the Cloud Forest is a MUST; and our guide, Oscar, was amazing! HIGHLY recommend! He was very knowledgeable about the environment and various creatures we saw in reserve. Had we not been with him for our walk, we would have missed out on so many species and would have never learned so much about the surrounding environment. We saw a Queztal, Spider monkeys, couple species of Tucans, a tarantula, and various other birds, to name a few. One thing I noticed Oscar had that no other guide had was a phone attachment for the scope so that you could easily take pictures with his phone through the scope and watch the creatures live on the phone screen rather than having to fumble with your own phone and try to peek through the scope. If you are debating about getting a guide, STOP contemplating and just book it!

Will recommend to others

Malay_D, Dec 2022
Amazing cloud forest, made it exceptional by guide Victor , very knowledgeable with great interpersonal skill , made really enjoyable

Very Informative

Sightseer55865064816, Jul 2019
Our guide Oscar was very informative and friendly. He knew all the different types of animals we saw and was able to spot them miles away. Be aware there is an additional $25 park entrance fee per person, this is only for the guide; however well worth it.

Oscar is a professional. I was very happy to participate with my 3-year-old.

Shun_K, Mar 2026
Oscar was professional and knowledgeable, and he was able to see many animals and plants. Lizard, some kind of Bards, Quetzal, Bat, White face monkey, etc. Oscar's Fieldscope is also great, allowing you to enjoy the tour while attaching your phone and watching it on your phone screen. You will also get the last photo video you took. (Most of the field scopes in other guides are peek-a-boo types) I went on this tour with my 3-year-old. Because we talk about the environment and the nature of the place, you can participate without difficulty while taking a break. It's no problem if you have a small child, I recommend it.
