The Milano duomo is spectacular, you definitely must see it! However, we booked this tour through viator thinking we had rooftop tour included, per the title. Instead there appears to be two options and we didn't choose correctly, so it was a shock to find out on arrival that we'd have to pay an additional €22 per person to go up to the rooftop. We decided against this.
The product title should read optional rooftop tour as that's what it is. Also the rooftop tour is not guided so that's also misleading. However the saving grace is the ticket to the duomo also includes the museum, where you can see a ton of removed rooftop statuettes and gargoyles anyway.
Important note: the face value of the ticket is only €10 so you are paying an awful lot more for skipping the line and guided tour. The guide was good but nothing special. I think if I went again I'd take my chances queueing and research Wikipedia beforehand.
The tour guide was very good. We were supposed to get an elevator to the roof experience but the elevator wasn't working. I am not sure if Viator or the tour company is refunding the difference. Then when I finished climbing all the steps to the roof... (and my friend didn't) I saw on the north side there were elevator tours. This was confusing. I would recommend purchasing tickets at the site with the ticket office rather than Viator on this one. I think we overpaid for what we got.
The inside of the church is amazing and there a couple surprises that no one tells you about. If you are at all religious you will enjoy this tour.

The tour guide company was very accommodating. I had my hair done before, which ran late. They offered and we joyfully accepted to get us in the next tour.

The terraces is a must! Absolutely amazing to see, experience and the views are spectacular along with the amazing aspects of the cathedral from the top. Really enjoyed the tour inside too and you have a chance after coming back down from the terrace to enjoy and light a candle for €1 if you wish! Really lovely value for money and a must do in Milan!
Very deceptive ad. States rooftop access and keeps mentioning "upgrade". We bought the rooftop access option and assumed elevator access. Wrong. We are all in our 70's and stairs was really not an option. We were told we could purchase an upgrade on site for 4€ each but they were sold out fir tge day. WAY overpaid for this tour. On a positive note the tourguide was good through the Cathedral portion

Samantha was a great tour guide. We didn’t have much time in Milan, so it was just the right amount of walking and the right number of highlights to hit. The Last Supper was breathtaking. Samantha took us to a cafe where she’s a regular. I wasn’t expecting this. It was a really lovely surprise— and a convenient bathroom break.
Lots of history spoken throughout the tour. Rooftop stairs almost killed me, it’s about 20 stories high in a very confined space and no AC.

The tour guide met us at the meeting point as arranged and took us into Il Duomo. Barbara was very informative and friendly. The tour was relatively short but for children, probably sufficient. We walked to the top terraza which was quite a climb but fabulous views over the city. I imagine this would be nice in the late afternoon. We had to take the 11:30 tour because that was all the availability there was, it was very hot up there. All in all very nice, it is cheaper if you get tickets on the day from the ticket office but quicker this way.
This was a great tour led by Barbara who was knowledgeable and very likeable with a good sense of humour. Meeting point was easy to find. We would recommend this tour.
The Duomo tour was great, but we purchased the rooftop add on version and it was stair access only. I cannot walk that many stairs due to a knee injury. We were told by the operator that we could pay for the elevator upgrade, and would have done so, but when we tried we were told that the elevator access was sold out. Not sure how elevator access sells out, so we were disappointed that we could not see the roof.
Great tour. Highly recommend doing the 1 hr tour with roof/terrace access. Men need to remove hats and while I dressed appropriately as a woman they do also give our paper dresses to cover up if needed. Can bring in backpacks. Stairs to roof are very steep and narrow. Did not pay for elevator access but would have been nice.
Valeria is a great tour guide! Very nice and knowledgeable. The audio system was very helpful to hear what she was saying amount the very large crowd of other groups.
Our guide was extremely thorough in explaining the history behind the Duomo. She did a wonderful job pointing out and describing many of the amazing artifacts that it holds.
The Duomo is Milan's top attraction for good reason. Its history, architecture, and beauty are truly remarkable. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and brought the cathedral to life with fascinating stories and insights that gave us a much deeper appreciation for this iconic landmark. It's an absolute must-see for anyone visiting Milan.

A very enjoyable tour. Barbara was very informative and funny. The tour ran very smoothly with lots of opportunities to ask questions.
Got off to a little rocky start as the tour operator had no flag that made them easy to find - instructions were unclear. However, our tour guide, Valeria, was so awesome she more than made up for it. Her knowledge, energy and personality brought the Duomo to life through the ages due to her fantastic storytelling. She was so wonderful and made the whole experience very memorable!
Though I have reviewed what I purchased and even the emails sent to me, when it STATES: “Rooftop access provided” if paid for (which I did), that means either taking the stairs OR the elevator (LIFT) IS INCLUDED in the COST!! WORDS HAVE MEANING!! Bottom line, at my age and knee issues, I can not walk up 251 stairs as I need to take the LIFT. VIATOR TITLES SHOULD state in “ “ STAIRS OR LIFT as an OPTION. To be told that is what I paid for (the stairs), it must be in little print….. overall, thank goodness I have a kid that can take the stairs and provide video afterwards.
Ticket did not had to be redeemed which is always convenient. Meeting point was just next to duomo. Guide was very good.
I guess there was a change to my tour but neither the emails or app told me what the change was. It turned out it was the time and I never received what the new time was so I missed my tour. I happened to run into the tour guide and her colleague who were able to get me a ticket to go inside the Duomo and on the roof. But I didn't have the tour which I was looking forward to and paid for.
Spectacular building, unfortunately 50% of the exterior was not visible because of undergoing renovations. Viator should make this known to their clients and reduce the price since you don't get full experience. Barbara was a knowledgeable tour guide, but only a 45 minute talking tour for 1 hour 45 minutes experience.

We do, however, feel a responsibility to future travelers reading this review to offer some context. The Milan Cathedral has been under continuous restoration for over 600 years. This is not a temporary inconvenience , it is a permanent and well-documented reality of one of the world's greatest Gothic monuments, proudly stated by the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo itself. Maintenance work on isolated spire sections is as much a part of the Duomo experience as the marble itself.
The suggestion that 50% of the cathedral was not visible is something we are unable to corroborate. The main facade is fully uncovered. The interior , 40 monumental columns, extraordinary stained-glass windows, and over 3,400 unique statues , is entirely accessible. Thousands of guests visit with us every month and consistently describe the experience as spectacular.
We are a tour operator. The architectural preservation schedule of a 14th-century cathedral is, understandably, outside our jurisdiction.
We hope this context is helpful to anyone planning their visit. The Duomo absolutely delivers , and our team is there every single day to make sure it does.
Museum Voyage
The tour guide Korina was excellent; personable, knowledgeable, and helpful. The guided tour was about 45 minutes and the free time to explore this amazing cathedral.
Meeting point well described and easy to find. Explanations well done, tour guide seemed flustered and nervous and her talk sounded rehearsed right out of a book, without any personal or tif bit historical information outside of guide book.
The 1 hr 45 min tour was the perfect amount of time for my family of 4 with two teenagers. Fast enough to keep our attention but provided enough details that we all learned a lot. Fadia was a lovely tour guide, very engaging and knowledgeable. We bought the ticket with rooftop access which was worth the views and seeing more of the beautiful architecture of the spires closer.
Barbara was an excellent guide, informative, friendly with a wonderful personality.
