Joshua (the Venezuelan Jake Gyllenhaal) was an amazing guide! This trip was more than we could’ve ever expected and we loved the stops along the way. The horses were gorgeous and the scenery was stunning. We also really appreciated how Joshua went the extra mile to take beautiful photos of all of us. Could not recommend this experience more!

As experienced horse people, we typically go into trail ride experiences with the expectation that it will be a leisurely walk only ride, as most folks on these rides typically have never ridden before. This is fine by us, we are just trying to get our horse time in on vacay and enjoy the scenery along the way. Hence, also low expectations in regards to the “quality” of the horses. Well, this was a trail ride experience like no other. My daughter and I’s mounts were amazingly responsive to us, and not your mindless trot along in single file ponies that will only go in one direction “follow the leader” style. We had the time of our lives, moving along at a steady Paso and at times we got to let them stretch and just fly at a full gallop. Yet, others horses, with less experience, stayed behind and kept their steady beginner friendly pace. Our guides were amazing! They truly care about the animals wellbeing, and that everyone had a good experience. They had great tips, even for us experienced riders, on how to get a better connection with our trail partners. The ride itself takes you through beautiful Colombian mountains, tiny little villages, and even right through town. Doberman, Susana, and her buddy the Rottweiler came along for the ride and were a joy to have join us. I also want to mention that these horses are the most bombproof horses I have ever encountered. Nothing, absolutely NOTHING, fazes them. Motorcycles squeezing by, ridiculously loud music, semi trucks, random dog fights? They took it all in stride. Something to note: helmets are not a thing here. And be smart, wear long pants or you’ll be sorry the next day.

The horses were in excellent condition and the trail guide dog was an added bonus. The scenery was awesome and our guide did an excellent job of assisting riders with their horse as needed. The breaks between the 4 hour ride were timely and our guide took some great photos for each of the riders. I would do it again when I visit Columbia again.

Great route, you can see a lot of Medellin’s mountain ranges. Guides were very helpful with every aspect of horse riding. Makes quick stops for food and water due to the extensive time one is riding the horses, approximately 3 hours.

The guides are so professional and personal to each rider that they will put you with the horse according to your personality and skill level. I felt right at home from the beginning.

What an amazing experience! First time rider and we couldn't have the best guides and teachers. Ricardo and Joshua are simply amazing, hilarious, knowledgeable. They were absolutely great!!!!

This horseback riding experience through the Medellín mountains was absolutely incredible! Our tour guide was amazing, friendly, knowledgeable, and made the entire experience enjoyable from start to finish. The scenery was breathtaking, with stunning views of the Colombian countryside that made every moment of the ride memorable. I was especially impressed by how well cared for and healthy the horses were, which made the experience even better. The length of the ride was perfect, giving us plenty of time to take in the beautiful landscapes and truly appreciate the region. I thoroughly enjoyed exploring this side of Colombia and would highly recommend this horseback riding adventure to anyone looking for an authentic and unforgettable experience.

Overall good experience. Ricardo is attentive, passionate and knowledgeable. Falcon (pup) was the best guide partner. This is a true Countryside Medellín experience.

Ricardo (owner/guide) was a wonderful guide and this horseback tour is one of the best we've ever taken! The ride through the Medellin countryside is simply breathtaking. We did several tours during our week in Medellin and this one stands out as a very unique experience. All of the horses are very well taken care of. Ricardo is more than a guide, he truly cares for all his animals and has rescued many of his horses from terrible conditions and worked very hard to bring them back to good health.
The tour starts at your meeting place where you will be transported by car (or cars depending on group size) and takes about 30-40 minutes to get just outside of Caldas where the tour begins at Ricardo's ranch. The horses are very well trained and respond very well to commands and reign steering. One word of caution, the horses love to compete for the lead position, so there may be quite a bit of trotting. But honestly, this made the tour more exciting. You will make your first stop at a small home of the man who trains Ricardo's dogs. There you can purchase beer, soda, or water to help support the dog trainer. Then you will continue through easy trails and some small hills until you reach your photo spot. It's a beautiful view of the surrounding countryside. Ricardo will pose your horses for great pictures. From there you will ride to a very small village where you will stop at the home of Estrella and her family where they will serve you drinks and traditional carrot cake. This is the last stop and you can spend as long as you like resting and learning about the locals and their traditions. The remainder of the trip is the return to Ricardo's ranch through Caldas. Here you will encounter many people, and some cars and motorcycles, but the horses don't mind at all. They are used to it. It's a steep climb back the ranch, and the horses handle the terrain very well. I believe Ricardo mentioned offering different tours that include lunch. We will definitely take this tour again when we return!
A few other notes: Ricardo does a lot for the animals in his care. Please consider not only tipping him, but donating to the cost of food to care for all his animals and the local animals he looks out for. The tour itself lasts about 4-5 hours, but there wasn't any rush to get to the finish. If you arrive early, you can have a bite and some great coffee at Le Brunch Express (the meeting point). When you return (around 2pm), Biftek Sur has amazing chicharon and a good list of imported beers. Envigado park is walkable from here, and a cool place to visit.

This was the best horseback riding experience I’ve ever had! Joshua was absolutely amazing, professional, friendly, patient, and made the entire ride so enjoyable. The horses were beautiful and well cared for, and the scenery was unforgettable. Everything felt safe, relaxing, and well organized from start to finish. Highly recommend!

You can tell the horses are loved. There are a couple different levels of horses but even if you get one a bit advanced for you the guide makes sure to come assist. He kept us all close and made sure no one fell behind or got ahead. He also picked fresh fruit for everyone to try! There were a few beautiful panoramic points and a very relaxing ride through the woods.

Wow what a great trip. The guide used to live in the State's and speaks perfect English. Very interesting to talk to about the region and culture. The horses were great, very calm. They let you run them and the rain forest was really cool. Their dog Falcon runs along side the whole way. Their little farm is like an animal rescue with dogs, cows, a goat and horses. They say the horses have to work too, to help keep everyone fed, lol. Best adventure of my vacation!

This is a great, must-do activity for the beginner or more experienced rider alike. The hosts are caring and take the time and effort to introduce you to their horses, before taking you on your riding journey. By the end of the trip, as a first time rider, I had control of the horse and felt confident enough to want to ride again. I loved every minute of the experience and will be back for more on my next visit to Medellin

We had an amazing time riding the horses, me and two of my friends for my birthday trip. They were very educational and also made us feel safe the entire ride. I also felt like I gained some skills of horseback riding as well too, and got more acclimated with it. My favorite part was when we stopped in the mountains and met with the locals and tried some of the rare fruit, not my favorite, but it was fun to try something new and we saw a lot of wildlife and a lot of nature and it was just a beautiful scenic view my next trip to medellin Colombia. I will definitely be back.

It is hands down the best thing I’ve done on my vacation, and I’m certain it’s the experience I’ll first reference when talking about my trip with friends. The scenery was breathtaking, even more so than the pictures that people posted (which can’t do it justice). The horses are so sweet and they are loved by the two organizers, and the trip was well planned. I think we might have been riding horses (with a few short stops) for 3 hours! I had never ridden a horse before and it was not hard with these gentle creatures. If you’re in debate about whether to do this or not, I’d seriously consider it.

The view was nice but the group was too big.
Maybe its better to focus on smaller groups for more quality time.

This was a really fun experience. Joshua was a great guide! We had so many great interactions with animals and people throughout the tour. Highly recommend!

As a first time rider, Joshua our guide took extra time to teach me how to ride with safety tips. He made sure I was comfortable and corrected my technique as he was very attentive. We had a great time, the nature is beautiful, the horses are well taken care of and everyone at the little farm is wonderful. It was much more than I could have asked for! I was even able to gallop with my horse Pacho a couple times! We had a few stops for pictures and some snacks. If im ever in Medellín, I will book again without hesitation. Everyone was very welcoming. A perfect trip!

Absolutely must do. We loved our guides. Loved the horses. It was the right amount of time and the stops along the way were perfect. A stop to eat carrot cake, try local fruit, and drink a beer. We experienced cats, dogs, goats, geese, flowers, butterflies.... I cannot undersell how absolutely gorgeous the views are. Would do it again. 20/10

My first time horseback riding and I couldn’t ask for a better time. Ricardo and Joshua both provided an incredible experience. They truly live the life and love what they do. They love all their animals. The horses were well taken care of. The ride was adventurous and scenic. The stops were well spaced. It will truly be one of my most memorable moments from this entire trip.

This was a highlight of my Medellin trip! Ricardo and Joshua have great energy! The route through the mountains was so beautiful - the pine forest, passing by the river, and the greenery all around. The animals are clearly so loved and well-trained and I felt very comfortable riding with them. There was a few stops to allow the horses to rest - including one for photos at a scenic overlook & one stop for delicious carrot cake and beverages including fresh squeezed orange juice. The total riding time is about 3-4 hours long. Very pleasant time!

Fun ride. Great horses. The trails and scenery were perfect. Would completely and fully recommend. Also Pedro was great (the baby goat!).

Amazing experience with beautiful views! We had Joshua and Javier as our guides and they were the best!! They really made the experience comfortable and were always ready to help. All the horses were great and you can really make the most of this experience depending on your comfortability. Definitely recommend wearing long pants and sneakers you don’t care to get dirty for this. Bring sunscreen as well!

Great to explore the beautiful nature around Medellin. Fit for first-timer and experienced. The tour takes about 4-5 hours, with 2.5 hours on horse back.
Ivan_Z, Jan 2026
You start off by meeting up in a cute little cafe where you can grab a coffee or breakfast before the start of the adventure. It’s about a 20 min ride to the location. They chose horses based off of your riding experience. They have many many horses to choose from. You go through the mountains, through two creeks (which was so cool). The entire trip was about 4 hours with 1.5 hours of riding. Lots of stops along the way for pictures & you stop at this lady’s house where you get drinks & carrot cake. We were a family of four with small children and they were super patient, leading my smallest horse by rope. Very safe areas and the horses are well kept. I will say the groups are a bit large (about 30 people) so the stops for pictures/drinks etc take a little long. Didn’t matter though, we had fun, our kids had fun and anytime we return we would only be going to Ricardo’s ranch. 10/10 recommend.
