What To Expect

Your horseback adventure begins with pick-up from your central Medellín hotel. Soak up the scenery on the 40-minute drive, passing through the Aburrá Valley, and stopping along the way to admire the views over the Medellín River and the northern Andes mountains.

On arrival at the horse ranch in Llanogrande, you’ll be greeted with a welcome drink, as your instructor matches you up with a suitable horse. After mounting up and learning the basics of stopping and steering your horse, it’s time to head out on the trails.

Follow your guide through the dramatic foothills of the Andes, passing along remote backcountry trails, crossing rivers and streams, and clambering up rocky tracks. Keep a look out for native wildlife as you ride through the lush forests, and perhaps spot monkeys, macaws, yellow parrots and hummingbirds.

Along the way, jump off to stretch your legs and enjoy refreshments (available to purchase) as you admire the dramatic landscapes, and snap photos of the rolling hills and gorges along the mighty Negro River.

After a leisurely half-day ride, return to the ranch, where your driver will be waiting to take you back to your hotel.

Not so pleasant ride

Unfortunately, the horseback riding tour experience was very disappointing. Most of the route was along a busy road instead of natural trails, as advertised. This ruined the connection with the natural scenery that we were hoping for. Additionally, during the excursion, one of my friends almost fell off when the front hooves of her horse gave out, resulting in her getting bruised. I would not recommend this tour to anyone seeking an authentic horseback riding experience.

Expected more riding through streams and jungles but we rode on a road.

Good valley views but riding without an English guide was not pleasant. I hope the tour operator caters to guides to English speaking customers as well

Don't book on a holiday!

This was a New Year's Day reservation made well in advance. So I was surprised when I got an early morning email canceling my excursion due to no horse ranches open because of no one wanting to work New Year's Day. Understandable, - but why take my booking? I called and demanded an immediate refund but Jose asked me to give him an hour to find someone. Ten minutes later I was reconfirmed. The trip to the horse ranch took 45 minutes and the driver stopped by the ATM and I bought some beers. We got to the ranch and saw that it was indeed closed but they opened just for us. It was a nice 1 and a half hour tour on docile horses -good for beginners and kids alike. Many of the private trails were closed for the holiday but the public trails are interesting and the views of the mountains beautiful- I was not disappointed. There is a small lake for children to fish and a restaurant. We tipped everyone for the extra effort- to open for just 2 people.

Great Place for horse back riding.

Great experience horse back riding. Would highly recommend. The horses are beautiful and easy to direct. Also if you enjoy riding fast, this would be a great place to go to.

Luis was a great guide. The experience was tranquil and relaxing. Views were great in the mountain. Requires some balance if you’ve never ridden a horse.

Horses were easy to lead. And the landscape was awesome. Our driver was fully bilingual, punctual and very good driver despite of the city traffic. We thought the driver was going to be the same as the horse guide, but the young boy who took us through the ride was okay too.

Excellent time with this horseback tour. I do wish that the ride was on trails rather than the road. The driver/tour guide was excellent and very friendly. I really enjoyed my time with him, very knowledgeable about Medellin. I learned a lot from him. Highly recommend him.

Guide war unmotiviert. Ranch war in keinen schönen Zustand und Führung bzw Erklärung über die el paso Pferde gab es auch nicht. Ausritt hat genau 1 stunde 20 Minuten gedauert. Galopp war nicht erlaubt obwohl wir erfahrene Reiter waren, Zeit wurde im Schritt Tempo rausgezögert. Erlebnis hätte 4 Stunden dauern sollen,abgeholt wirden wir 1 Stunde zu spät und dafür pünktlich retour gebracht. Für dieses Geld war es eine Katastrophe.
