National Gallery with Art Historian Guided Tour in London

London, England
  • 2 hours (approx.)
  • Mobile ticket
  • Offered in: English

Overview

The National Gallery holds thousands of works spanning seven centuries of Western European painting—navigating the collection without guidance makes it easy to move through the rooms without understanding what distinguishes one period, school, or artist from another. This small-group tour is led by an art historian who focuses the visit on works such as those by Holbein, Michelangelo, Canaletto, and Moroni.
  • Skip the overwhelm and let an art historian focus the visit
  • A small group makes it easier to hear the guide and ask questions
  • Enjoy the intimate experience of a small-group tour
  • Gain a comprehensive overview of the gallery in one afternoon

  • Free admission to the gallery's permanent collection
  • Embark on one of the museum's official tours with an expert guide
  • Be inspired by the collections' must-see pieces made by famous artists
  • Photography is permitted but without the use of flash
  • Tickets to the paid-for temporary exhibitions
  • Cloakroom's fee
  • Refreshments

Guide cancelled an hour...

Lisa_S, Sep 2025
Guide cancelled an hour before the scheduled tour due to the train not running???? Was too late to book another tour so we rented headphones at the gallery and did a self guided highlights tour which was fine.

Response from Host, Sep 2025

Apologies once again but I do not control the trains. Glad you managed to enjoy the gallery regardless.

A short walk through art history, well worth the time and effort

Gwendolyn_K, Apr 2025
Julia is an art historian and she really gave me a very meaningful insight on the key artworks in relation to their time, values, feelings. I left her tour learning a lot about famous and newly introduced to me artists. It’s the way to do the national gallery in 2 hours and leave with an appreciation of it.

Response from Host, Apr 2025

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback, hoping to see you on one of my other art tours in future.
