Itinerary

After being picked up from your Central London hotel by private vehicle, enjoy the scenic drive to Chartwell House, passing through the rolling countryside of Kent. As you arrive at the grand estate, hear more about its former residents—legendary Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill and his family—from your guide.

Discover more about the man himself as you head inside and follow your guide through the family rooms, still decorated in 1930s style. Get a sense for Churchill’s home life as you peek into the sitting room, study, dining room, and library, and admire the huge display of personal items, including political memorabilia, photographs, and gifts from all around the world, received during his time in office.

Uncover the many talents of Churchill as you peek into his art studio and admire his original paintings, then head outside to explore the idyllic gardens. Stroll through the Kitchen Garden and Lady Churchill's rose garden, see the Churchill swimming pool, and spot black swans gliding around the lake.

Before setting out on the return journey to London, perhaps make a stop at the cafe to enjoy a light lunch or a traditional English cream tea (own expense). Back in London, your tour ends with drop-off at your hotel.

A day at Chartwell

Jack_L, Mar 2022
Kevin - Our tour guide was outstanding and should be considered for a raise and a promotion. He was part of our family for the day.

Churchill's Chartwell Home

Our guide Richard did a fantastic job going the extra mile to pick us up and deliver us back to our hotel near Heathrow. Everything with the tour went exactly as advertised. Chartwell provides first hand firsthand insight into Winston Churchill.

Chartwell House

I thoroughly enjoyed this home. I loved the feeling of a country home where family can relax and enjoy the privacy and time together. I love that Winston Churchill stipulated that there must always be a cat and dogs were allowed to run around the garden.

Chartwell with Nigel

Absolutely great trip to Chartwell with Nigel who was both extremely knowledgeable and witty. The time on the drive from London just flew by as Nigel was narrating the various sites and neighborhoods. My wife and I would highly recommend this tour!

A day at Chartwell

I can't rate this wonderful private tour and excellent guide with adequate superlatives. The day we spent with Gilly, our guide, will long be remembered by us. Not only was she intelligent and well-informed, but she was friendly, personable, and thoroughly pleasant to be with. We felt as if we were going with a friend, not a cicerone - she is the sort of delightful person we would invite to our home and she added immense pleasure to our day. We have had wonderful success with our Viator guides and will surely use their service again.

Our guide, Kevin, couldn't have been better. He was full of stories and information not only about Chartwell but other areas as well. Arrived punctually at our hotel and took us for an additional stop in London. Knowing we live part time in Texas he took us by a plaque commemorating the spot of the first official foreign office for Texas after it won its independence.

Driver on time and friendly. Thought driver would have more information on the site while touring there. Line long for lunch and hence had to skip, should have had more structure on timing at tour.

We had a wonderful experience with Kevin from Ye Olde England Tours! He made our trip to Chartwell one of the memorable days of our entire vacation. Vast knowledge of London and the local area, and a sense of what types of history and trivia we would like, helped us enjoy little treasures even beyond the day we spent with Kevin. His knowledge and enthusiasm for the area and the local history will always remind us of our wonderful day in Chartwell. We will certainly use this tour company again and will request Kevin. You should too!

The tour was great. Gilly was a great guide and would do another tour with her any time. It was great personal service and very well worth what I spend. Value was actually beyond what I spend.

It was our first time booking with Viator and we were quite pleased with everything. We spent our Sunday with a great guide Kevin, who picked up at our hotel at the requested time and drove us to Chartwell in his very comfortable car. While driving up he pointed out to many interesting sites in London and he was very knowledgeable and very pleasant. We highly recommend Kevin and this tour.

I would highly recommend this tour for anyone traveling to London but unwilling to rent a car. My driver / guide Gilly picked me up at my hotel by Victoria Station and we had a fabulous day going to Chartwell on this tour. Gilly was very personable and knowledgeable about this former home of Winston Churchill. On the way to the estate, she told me about the areas we passed, and once we arrived she gave me all the time I needed to view the site, and acted as my private guide of the property. In each of the rooms you visit they have very knowledgeable volunteers who are always willing to answer any questions you have. It was a wonderful tour and I would highly recommend if you are interested in the Churchills and where they lived outside London. Ask for Gilly for an extra special experience!

Our driver was very prompt in picking us up at our Air B and B in central London. He was friendly and polite and we enjoyed his narrative. The tour was very interesting and we enjoyed the whole day. We would recommend this tour to anyone who has an interest in Churchill. His property is lovely and we toured the end of May when the flowers were in full bloom.
