Incredible hike!

We had the most seamless pickup and easy drive to Rio Celeste, and even saw a sloth and got pictures on the way! Gonzalo was our guide and he spotted so many animals on the way and on the hike, and was very informative and helpful during some trickier parts to the river. We loved it!

Beautiful adventure

Our travel guide was very knowledgeable about the rainforest of volcano and the waterfall. It was so beautiful. I would definitely do this again and highly recommend it.

Rio Celeste, the Best

Absolutely gorgeous. The photos are 10/10. In person its 12/10. Ellio, our guide and William, our driver were so nice, friendly and helpful. Truly the type guides you want on this tour or any for the matter. Ellio pointed out a sloth for us on the way there and asked william to pull over so we can take pictures and look the telescope. Truly amazing. HIGHLY recommend this tour and to do it with Jungle Tours

Thank you for sharing your experience! We're glad you enjoyed exploring our Sloth Watching Trail in La Fortuna, and that Elio and Don William helped make the day even better — he’s a fantastic guide, and William a Pura Vida Driver!

Beautiful and informative day - highly recommend

What a wonderful day! Gonzalo (guide) and Francisco (driver) were both lovely, informative and helped to point out wildlife along our journey (sloths, toucans, cayman, basilisk, snakes….) The communication with Arenal Jungle Tours was great from the outset, answering questions and helping us to arrange a pick up from our Air BnB. Pick up was on time and Gonzalo made the whole check in process easy (don’t forget to have a copy of your passport - physical or digital) The hike to Rio Celeste was beautiful and Gonzalo was really informative about the eco system, flora and fauna! We were lucky to see the Rio Celeste in a beautiful aqua blue colour, and our teenagers were really lucky to see a tapir on their walk back up the trail! The lunch was delicious, a choice of chicken, fish or pork, and the swim in the Rio Celeste was lovely. Our boys loved swimming in the natural ‘lazy river’ !! (I would advise taking wet shoes, we didn’t, and found some of the pebbles and stones underfoot a little tricky) We spent some time looking at sloths, toucans and caymans and having ample opportunity to take photos and videos without feeling at all rushed. All in all a wonderful day. Would highly recommend this specific tour as well as the tour company.

like a spanish class field trip with the best view and yummy beans

Mia_N, Aug 2024
This tour was a cozy little group of 12ish people. Our guide’s name was Eric and he was so nice and funny! He remembered all our names and joked with everyone the entire time so it felt like a personal guide. He presented everything in both English and Spanish and lightheartedly quizzed us so it felt like we were in class (in a good way). We stopped by a cafe for pastries, coffee, and bathroom break after picking everyone up. The hike in the park was a proper hike with steep stairs down to the waterfall. I just wore hiking sandals and carried a poncho. Left the towel and swimsuit in the car for later. It rained hard all night in La Fortuna and lightly during the day so we thought the water would be brown but it was SO BLUE!! We also saw the “boiling river,” where the brown and blue rivers met, blue lagoon, and lots of wildlife along the way. Then it poured heavily on the hike out so the water was starting to slightly darken by the time we reached the soda (best beans and tea of the entire trip) and swimming area outside the park. The river was rocky and slippery so sandals are highly recommended! Theres clean showers and changing areas here. And we shared a shot of Costa Rican cane liquor with everyone to end the day. Highly recommend this over other tours because we were able to swim in the blue waters! Also Eric was amazing!!

THE Best Tour and Tour Guide in La Fortuna

Jan_H, Jan 2024
THE highlight of our vacation in La Fortuna. We did four different excursions and this one was the best. Gonzalo (From Chile!) took every possible moment to explain history, culture, geography and wildlife. If there was an animal along the trail or road - he spotted it and stopped the hike or the drive to explain and/or take photos. Stopped at a small town bakery for pastry and coffee on the way out - excellent! The turqoise waters of the Rio Celeste were amazing. The tour ended with lunch at a family Soda with terrific Casado - traditional meal. Best Frijoles I had the whole trip!

Great day!

Gonzalo was such a great guide — so knowledgeable and passionate about the place, it’s geography and it’s animal inhabitants. We had a wonderful time! The food at the lunch stop was delicious, as well. Everyone cleaned their plates. Highly recommend.

Love adventure, food & nature? Gonzalo is your MAN!

Marco_S, Sep 2023
UNFORGETTABLE! My wife and I spent our honeymoon in the Costa Rican paradise, and we decided to spend at least one day with a guide to experience the most of the local culture, food, nature & wildlife. We hoped for a memorable experience... little did we know that we would embark on the journey of our lifetime with two of the best, most personable and knowledgable guides we have ever met! Gonzalo and Mr. William picked us up from the Arenal Observatory Lodge right on time. They introduced themselves and we instantly felt at ease in their experienced hands. We were fortunate enough to have the two of them all to ourselves, and before we embarked they discussed what we wanted most from our journey. My wife and I love nature and wildlife photography, but also hoped to experience the local culture including food, people and scenery. Basically, we wanted it all, haha! Gonzalo quickly devised an itinerary and together with Mr. William, we set off. The duo seemed to have a knack for spotting wildlife regardless of where we were. While driving along they would pull over to point to a random tree. Sure enough we would be face to face with a durante of toucans, a mother and baby sloth hanging out, or even poison dart frogs! Mr. William knew literally ALL the hot spots of local hole in the wall bakeries, off road adventures and absolutely gorgeous scenic overlooks. Gonzalo being quite the adventurer himself was at home trouncing through the mud and hiking up the climb of the Tenorio volcano with my wife and I. Towards the latter half of the day we enjoyed a mind blowing lunch with delicious drinks and dessert. The local farm (and friends of Gonzalo) were expecting us when we pulled up, and it felt like we were dining with family. Once our bellies were full we walked just a few yards over to the incredibly refreshing Rio Celeste where we had the river solely to ourselves. An offshoot of the main waterfall (pictured) in the Parque Nacional Volcán Tenorio, this spot had its own inlet where we enjoyed floating around in the beautifully blue refreshing waters. Just as we thought the drive home would be just that - a drive home - we were in for more of a surprise. Mr. William took us up a scenic drive overlooking the three main volcanoes of the region. We never knew such gorgeous sights existed and it was the perfect cap to a glorious day with two amazing guides. It was sad to bid the duo goodnight, but we look forward to visiting again. We can't recommend Gonzalo and Arenal Jungle Tours enough. Check out just a sample of some of the wildlife and nature we experienced. Pura Vida!

Incredible!

Carlos was a great driver, and Santiago was an amazing guide! He made sure we saw a variety of wildlife, was very knowledgeable, and extremely friendly. The hike was the right level of intensity, with several beautiful viewpoints. Would definitely recommend - we were lucky to see the waterfall when it is blue, and it was incredible!

Nice walk, al...

Nice walk, although we expected a bit more effort from the guide for looking for animals. 2 spiders and 2 snakes seems like a meagre find. Driver Melvin did a great job and was careful. Rio Celeste and waterfall are beautiful to see. Lunch was good.

Physique mais très beau.

luc_g, Jan 2023
