If you’re staying within 15 minutes of La Fortuna, you can request a pickup in advance of the tour. Otherwise, head directly to the farm—the meeting point will show on your booking voucher.
With your group all together, you’ll meet your guide and set off on a tour of the farm to learn about Costa Rica’s famous exports, namely coffee, chocolate, and sugar.
You’ll learn about production methods at the family-run plantation, and discover the journey that coffee beans make in order to end up in a cup of your favorite brew. Highlights of the tour include the chance to prepare and taste chocolate, and even sample sugar cane, too.
After roughly 2.5 hours, your tour ends at the farm.

This tour exceeded my expectations. We saw and tried the fruit to the bar and different coffee drinks. The chocolate was delicious and it was interesting to try the different % next to each other. The guide was fun and I highly recommend.
Dan was our guide and he is funny, friendly and knowledgeable. The tour taught me so much about chocolate, coffee and sugarcane. The tour was so delicious! I made sure to bring coffee and chocolate back home with me.
Such a fun and informative experience! Our tour guide Pablo was very knowledgeable about the coffee and chocolate process. He answered all of our questions and was very friendly. This was a great excursion for a rainy afternoon, if anything, the rain made the experience better! The tour offers many opportunities to sample coffee and chocolate at different stages in the process which was very cool. This tour is perfect for anyone, even those who don’t like coffee or chocolate! Had a wonderful time!

Trying the different types of coffee and seeing the process for creating the chocolate was so fascinating! Definitely a 10/10 experience and a recommendation to check out if you are on this part of Costa Rica!

We had a great experience at North Fields Café! Our tour guide, Daniel, was incredibly informative, honest, and genuine. This didn’t feel like one of those guided tours designed simply to take your money. Daniel took the time to actually educate us about Costa Rica, including how local families have traditionally made a living and how outside investment and development can sometimes negatively impact the local economy and the people who call Costa Rica home.
We really appreciated hearing a perspective that went beyond just coffee and chocolate. It made the tour feel much more personal and meaningful.
Of course, we also really enjoyed the fun parts—the chocolate tasting was delicious, the coffee tasting was great, and the little surprise moonshine tasting was definitely a memorable touch!
Overall, it was an educational, authentic, and enjoyable experience. Daniel made the tour stand out, and we would absolutely recommend North Fields Café to anyone visiting La Fortuna.

Absolutely brilliant from start to finish. Due to a tropical storm, our arrival to Aranale was delayed by 24 hours. Consequently we would have missed our tour.
North Fields Cafe: Craft Specialty Coffee and Chocolate Tour were so accommodating and moved our start time. We were picked up and dropped back to our hotel. Valerie our tour guide was so entertaining both knowledgeable and very funny. The coffee and chocolate tasted amazing and we were walked through each process from start to finish. Can’t think of a better way to experience both coffee and chocolate as well as sampling both sugarcane juice and the alcohol they also produce. Tour worth every penny. Our teenage children aged 14,15,18 also really enjoyed the whole experience. Thank you so much ☺️

This was such a fun and comprehensive experience! David was our guide and was so knowledgeable about the process of creating coffee, chocolate, cocoa butter, etc. and was so helpful in teaching us to understand the big picture. There were more than enough samples of products on this tour and it helped us understand what we like/don’t like in our coffee and chocolate. Could not recommend this tour (and David) enough and am so glad we could support this business!
We thoroughly enjoyed this tour given we had an extremely full and active day prior. To enjoy the pace, the highly informative knowledge sharing from our guide, the sips and tasting of coffee and chocolate through every stage from tree to end product was enjoyable. Great for adults and maybe teens but this would probably be too long / not interesting to kids. We really appreciated the expertise of our guide, you can tell they are passionate about informing visitors about Costa Rica’s two primary exports.

Very enjoyable tour with a knowledgeable guide. This is not a large plantation of coffee or coco, but a smaller representation of one (still good size). I enjoyed the coffee tasting, and have a much better understanding on the bean, processing, and grinding. Chocolate was also a great process - from the pod to final product, with taste tests off different chocolate types. Shuttle pick-up and drop-off were right on time. Overall the tour was a bit expensive for the duration, but I am glad I went.

Stephan led our tour. It was quite long but so interesting. Lots of tasting and looking at different things like coco bean fruit…tasting and touching. The best FRESH roasted coffee I have ever had! Yummy chocolate! Best way to spend the afternoon after the drive up. Stephan was awesome!!!
This was such a fun and educational experience! Our tour guide was fantastic and explaining how chocolate, coffee and sugarcane juice is made. We thoroughly enjoyed the tastings of each and really enjoyed looking around the farm, it was beautiful. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting a unique experience in law Fortuna.

We had such an amazing experience on the coffee and chocolate tour, and Valerie made it unforgettable! She was incredibly sweet, knowledgeable, and so much fun to spend the afternoon with. She made the entire 2½-hour tour fly by while taking us through the fascinating journey of how coffee and chocolate are grown, processed, and made.
She answered every question we had, explained everything in a way that was easy to understand, and you could tell how passionate she is about what she does. The samples were delicious, and she even continued to help us after the tour ended by giving us recommendations and answering additional questions.
If you have the chance to take this tour, I highly recommend asking for Valerie. She truly made the experience so enjoyable, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our trip!
