Climb or Not, Best Tour With Kids to Skip The Line

Charlotte_M, Mar 2026
I can’t say enough good things about this tour. I read previous reviews about skipping the line and that was my main concern traveling with 2 children under 3. We walked right in the cathedral via private door and had a brief tour from a very knowledgeable guide. She walked us from the back of the cathedral to the dome explaining key points. Then she escorted us to a staircase where we could start the climb. There was no one else in line for the climb and my husband and I went right up. On the way down, I counted maybe 200 people going up to the dome and realized we had a pretty unique experience not having to wait in the dome climb line either! Only 2 of the 6 of us made the climb and it was still worth it just to skip the cathedral line and walk have a private tour.

A must!

Save time. Enjoy the amazing views at the top!

Worth the skip the line! Views are worth the climb! Guide was great and explained the building basics of the dome.

Angela_H, Oct 2025
Climbing to the top of the Duomo was a challenging, but neat experience. I felt like our actual tour of the church was very rushed, and it was hard to hear our guide at times because she wasn’t using a headset. We also didn’t really get a chance to explore the church when she wasn’t using done talking, as we were led right to the steps to start the climb. When you exit the climb, you exit the church, so we would have had to wait in line to get back in.

Response from Host, Oct 2025

Dear Angela, Thank you for sharing your experience. We’re glad to hear that you enjoyed the climb to the top of the Duomo — it truly is a unique and memorable part of the visit! We’re very sorry, however, that you found the church portion of the tour rushed and that it was difficult to hear the guide at times. Your feedback is very helpful, and we’ll be sure to share it with our local team to ensure guides consistently use headsets and allow guests more time to appreciate the interior before beginning the climb. You are also correct that, due to the structure and exit route of the Duomo, guests exit directly outside after the climb. We understand how this can be disappointing for those who wish to explore further. We truly appreciate your comments and hope that, despite these issues, you enjoyed the overall experience and the breathtaking views from the top.

Not worth the money....

kathy_b, Oct 2025
Not worth the money. Guide was difficult to understand. Duomo unimpressive and the guide just left when we started the difficult climb to the dome.

Response from Host, Oct 2025

Hi Kathy, Thank you for booking with us. We are sorry to hear that you did not understand the guide fully, we will be addressing your comments to them as we use the official guides of the Duomo for this tour. The dome climb is not guided as per tour description. I wish you a lovely stay in Florence!

We took the tour that included climbing to the top. Climbing to the top was incredible and this part of the experience was 5/5 stars for sure! My regret w this tour was that we only got a short guided tour and then were taken to the stairs. After climbing the stairs we were not allowed into the cathedral to see more it. I wonder if the other tours provided a more complete tour of the cathedral. I was disappointed by how little I actually saw of the cathedral and that is why my overall number of stars is lit for this particular tour.

Response from Host, Oct 2025

Hello jackie_c, Thank you for sharing your experience. We are truly sorry that the guided portion of your cathedral tour did not meet your expectations. We understand how disappointing it must have felt to climb to the top and then feel limited in exploring the cathedral itself. We want to clarify that the entrance to the cathedral is free, and guests are welcome to return inside at any time to explore further. We sincerely apologize that this was not clearly communicated during your visit. Your feedback is invaluable and will help us ensure a more complete and enjoyable experience for future guests. We are glad you enjoyed the climb, and we hope you’ll have the opportunity to fully experience the cathedral in the future.

There are alot of steps however it is worth it when you get to the top and see the beautiful views of Florence.

Great tour!

Josephine_M, Jun 2025
This was a 30-45 minute guided tour of the Duomo. Our guide was informative and answered all our questions. If you dare attempt to climb the steps to the top of the Duomo, the view is amazing.

Once in a lifetime experience

Michael_M, Apr 2025
Just incredible place! Our guide did a great job of touring and giving us information about Duomo. Since we skipped the line, we initially had more privacy and additional time to spend inside. Amazing architecture and art! Be ready for crowds outside!!!!

Perfect Duomo tour

Highly recommend doing the first tour. Very small group. The group coming up when we were going down was well over 50 people.

Excellent Experience with Wonderful Tour Guide

Kathryn_S, Oct 2024
Our tour guide was well spoken, engaging, professional and knowledgeable. It was a huge advantage to spend time with her to learn about the Duomo and then to enjoy the experience of climbing the dome. If you want to visit the Duomo, this “Skip the Line” tour is definitely the way to go!!!

Beautiful experience

Gordon_B, Sep 2024
Beautiful structure and info was valuable. The tour host spoke a bit low so it was difficult to hear everything. Ker knowledge was great, however. The climb to the dome was epic’

Good tour

Ahpa_P, Sep 2024
Good informational tour! Informational tour was about 30mins. A great way to skip the lines as well! The dome climb was great as well!

First tour with all ages

Christie_O, Sep 2024
We were the first tour of the day and were in the church alone. Lovely! The guided tour itself was only 30 min but very informative! Then the climb after was so fun. My son in law carried his 1 yr old in a sling and my son carried the 2 yr old up and down. We all made it including my pregnant daughter. We were ages 1-70 yrs old.

Great!

Mary_P, Jul 2024
This was excellent. We were actually the first group in so we got pictures with no one inside! The views from the top are fantastic!

Great Duomo Tour and Dome climb

Christine_M, Jun 2024
The tour and guide were great. The guide was very knowledgeable and personable. The skip the line tour allowed us to avoid the large crowd during high season with very long lines. The view at the top of the dome was remarkable! I highly recommend this tour.

Tour was ok, climb was good.

Lauren_H, Jun 2024
Tour guide was hard to hear and difficult to understand (heavy accent) - we did not get much out of the tour besides what we saw as we walked through the basilica. Luckily a family member took a different walking tour (no climb) through the same tour company which provided headsets and a clear speaking guide. It is recommended to get a tour with headsets as we were surprised this tour did not provide headsets. The climb was as expected with a beautiful view of the top of the dome (inside) and of the City outside at the top.

Stairway to heaven

Benjamin_S, May 2024
Just amazing but watch out there is a lot of stairs to get to the top. This will be your weekly workout. Our tour guide was super knowledgeable, she had prepared many photos and printouts to show and explain how the whole Basilica came about. The tour starts early for a reason, you want to be there before the crowds. Once you reach the Duomo skywalk it is all worth it. The views and the grand nature of everything. Wow!

Great experience

Enrique_S, Oct 2019
Worth it definitely do this you save the line you go right in and you see everything it was an amazing experience will definitely recommend you do it again

Great tour

tawney132019, Sep 2019
This was a wonderful tour and Sofia was fabulous. The climb was intense with all the people but the view was wonderful. Sofia had a wealth of knowledge and the terrace's view was gorgeous.

Great value!

Sarah S, Aug 2019
My husband and I booked this last-minute because we wanted to avoid the super-long standby line to enter the Cathedral. It was so worth it! The exclusive terrace was worth the cost in itself. Our small group were the ONLY people I saw go up there. Truly an exclusive. And our guide Isabella was very sweet and thorough and we learned so much! The only negative thing I could say was that we had a little bit of trouble locating the initial meeting place, but it's no fault to the City Wonders/Viator. Be aware that the Cathedral/Duomo complex has THREE different ticketing offices, so give yourself extra time to locate the one you'll be meeting at. A few members of the tour group couldn't find it before we departed, but City Wonders representatives were great in making sure they could meet up with us once they did find the meeting point. Would recommend!

Duomo

just23145, Aug 2019
The Duomo, I’m a single traveller and wouldn’t Norma pay for guided tours . The guide had such passion and great knowledge ,really made the tour come alive . You learn so much more from a guided tour than any guide book . The views from the top of the Duomo , were spectacular . I previously worked in the tourism industry promoting the county of Somerset in the uk , I know how hard it is to captivate a group of tourists ,I don’t normally do reviews, but I can’t recommend the guide or the tour highly enough. It has to in the top 3 of things to do in Florence. amazing job and I cannot recommend this tour highly enough.

Stunning tour and Smart Guide

Jenne J, Jul 2019
We had a great opportunity with this tour to see and learn so much about the detailed history of this architecture. We appreciated our tour guide, Monica so much. She gave a well informed tour and was a joy. Recommend heading up the 150 steps to the walkway. The view is magnficent.
