Amazing experience! DR Prime tours was amazing!!!! Would do again and highly recommend! Long walk to van from port but other than that no complaints. Lunch was good.i guess one other complaint was at plantation the pressure to buy jewelry was ridiculous, gave me anxiety! Couldn’t look in store without guy following me everywhere in the store wanting to sell to me.
We had such a great time. Our driver Fernando was excellent and kept us intrigued as he shared the history of his beautiful island with us. Great story teller! Our guide Jonathan was fantastic. He took great pics of us and I'm not photogenic. The adventure was so much fun! They got us back to our ship with plenty of time. I highly recommend!
By far one of the best experiences EVER! Definitely come ready to hike in comfy water shoes but it’s absolutely worth it. If you happen to get Daniella or Chocolate as your guides… you are in luck. Let’s not forget our driver William! Not only did we feel safe the whole time, the guide team was amazing and made sure we were hydrated, had AC and had the best time ever…! I will absolutely do this adventure again and again and again
You have to walk through the port terminal to outside the exit gate, which is about a 15-minute walk.
We were met by Daniella from DR Prime Tours. We sat in front of the Port Police station and waited for the rest of the guests. Once everyone was together, we walked over to the enclosed air conditioned 10-person van. We met our driver, William, and then “Chocolata” (paparazzi / photographer).
It was about a 30 to 40-minute ride to the falls, with a short stop to drop-off people for the dune buggy excursion. William was great because as we approached the parking lot, there was a large tour bus ahead of us. One of the workers told William to park with the tour bus and that would be our group. William refused and dropped us off with a smaller group.
Upon our arrival we walked to the lockers, life vest and helmet area. The lockers are free and good size. I had a medium sized backpack that fit in it with room to spare. They zip-tie the locker key to your vest. You are required to have some type of water shoe, if not, you can rent them for about $5.00 USD. Whatever type of shoes you have, make sure they have a good sole, you will be walking over a lot of rocks.
Now starts the march, yes, I said march. First you cross over a ravine, via a metal bridge. Then you come to the jungle. Lots of trees, wild life (wild chickens, nothing dangerous) and exotic fruits (Limoncillo - slimy flesh and leaves a chalky aftertaste), beautiful. Now, the part that doesn’t get mentioned is it is about a 45-degree angle walk up the “stair” path to the summit. Your guides will tell you, it is “only” five Dominican minutes to the summit, which translates into you have 30 minutes of walking ahead of you. They stopped a couple of time at rest areas to allow you to catch your breath. Note: There is no water provided on the trip up, make sure you bring enough to hydrate. Once you finally reach the summit (no water bottles allowed past this point), it is about a 5 to 10-minute walk down to the falls. This fluctuates between 90-45 degrees on the way down. It does get crowed at the mouth of the falls and everything kind of really slows down. We were told September is not their busy season, so I could only imagine how slow it can get during the summer months.
Once at the narrow opening to the first of the falls, you walk through COLD water which gets progressively deeper. Guys watch your privates as it is shockingly cold. The first natural slide is a curve into a deep pool of water. You have to swim to the end where it gets shallow enough to stand up. The second natural slide is a double curve and the water is just as deep.
Next is the first jump which is an 18’ drop (it gets pretty crowded). You can either jump into the water or take the natural slide down. They tell the guys to cross your legs to protect your private parts, but my wife said the girls should do the same to prevent water intrusion. The last cliff jump is 20’, but there is also a natural slide or a wooden latter to get to the bottom if you don’t want to jump. We jumped both cliffs. I don’t like heights, but jumped both and it was great.
At this point we were done and helmet/vest are off. There is plenty of time for pictures and videos. You then have a 10 to 15-minute walk back to the starting point. This is where good soled shoes come in to play. We walked through a rocky ravine, jungle, rocky ravine, jungle, rocky ravine, jungle (that was not done by mistake, it was back and forth) and then back over the bridge to the starting point. It is worth mentioning, the whole time “Chocolata” was there taking our pictures and videos on his GoPro.
We loaded up and headed to our lunch spot. On the way there I would like to thank William for his defensive driving skills. Driving in the Dominican Republic is crazy. As we were coming around a blind corner, some moron was trying to pass a truck. The car started flashing his lights and William came to an abrupt stop, thus avoiding a head-on crash. We arrive at Topic Gourmet, a small mom and pop place on the side of the road, for a 30-minute lunch. It was a small buffet with fried chicken, pork chops, plantains, salad with salsa dressing and beans with rice. We were provided with a soda or beer with our meal. It was delicious and full of flavor. My wife is a foody, with a love of Spanish style foods and she was impressed by the amount of flavors.
Afterward, we arrived at the “plantation”. It was a small spot where they showed us coca pods, tobacco leaves and a monster mango tree. They hand rolled their own cigars and they have two gentlemen show you how they create one. There is a small shop with cigars, jewelry, hand crafted items, coffee and snacks.
Now we headed back to the ship, it was about a 10 to 15-minute drive back. On the way back, “Chocolata” downloaded all the pictures and videos he had obtained onto my wife’s phone. It was approximately 150 pictures and videos for $65.00 USD. My wife was shocked; she was expecting $200.00 USD. My wife even told "Chocolata” he should ask for more, he just smiled and said he did not want to rip-off his customers. What impressed my wife is that he did not just take pictures and video of us. He also captured the beauty of the jungle and of the water fall formations.
We want to thank Viator / DR Prime Tours for the great experience. Not a bad excursion for $60.00 USD each.

What a fantastic experience. The tour guides baby monkey fish and kailen were very knowledgeable and hilarious! Transportation was great. The food and other parts were out of this world. The photographer aka (chocolatte) not his real name was hands down the funniest most entertaining one there. Treated my kids like they were his own family. I can give this excursion enough praise. Best one I've been on yet
We had an incredible experience with this tour. The staff was amazing and everything was perfect. Very organized and professional. They picked us up and dropped us off at the cruise port on time. We enjoyed the waterfalls, authentic Dominican lunch, and the tour of the farm. I highly recommend this excursion and would book it again. AMAZING!!!!
We had an absolutely incredible adventure at the Damajagua Waterfalls with DR PRIME TOURS! While there is a scenic hike up to the falls, it is completely doable because the guides pace everything perfectly and take plenty of helpful breaks along the way. My daughter had the absolute time of her life, and the entire staff was incredibly professional, warm, and friendly from start to finish. To top off an already perfect day, the local buffet food was so incredibly delicious—I will definitely book with them again next time we are in the Dominican Republic!
Staff were amazing. Lots of walking/hiking. The steps were intense too! We enjoyed the water slide and jumps. The the was AMAZING! The last stop was a great mis of culture of shopping!
This was breathtaking experience going down the falls , enjoying local food and bus ride . The guides crew was very helpful to our group where some were scared and few did not know swimming.
Very friendly and kind service they were excellent with the food with the photos and with the touring of the waterfalls.
I want to say it was awesome and truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. That said, be prepared, it's not just a waterfall tour. It's a fairly strenuous hike uphill through the jungle before you get to enjoy the waterfalls. The guides are great and give you water and frequent breaks to catch your breath.
Our day was also very crowded, which took away from the experience a bit. Plan on spending about 4 hours total from start to finish.
Overall, if you're up for some adventure and don't mind the hike, it's definitely worth doing at least once.
Carmen took excellent care of us. The waterfall tour was an adventure for sure. The chocolate factory tour was very underwhelming. Overall we were happy with the day!
Very caring guide for this elderly couple, Galvin, who slowed down so we could access mountain with ease. We made it successfully thru all the waterfalls! Great excursion for a less price than cruise ship!!!

Fantastic experience!! We cannot recommend this excursion enough. We were very lucky that they waited for us as our cruise ship was late arriving into Port. It was a small group of just five of us and we had a fantastic time. The fall was an amazing experience. Be prepared for a strenuous hike, but it was great. Bottled water was provided. However, the crown jewel was the food at the local restaurant. It was absolutely delicious. Our tour guide was amazing.
Four of us took this excursion(my husband, 2 teenage kids (18 and 15 y.o.) and myself)). Usually it’s difficult to please everyone in the family but all 4 of us enjoyed the experience a lot! The meeting place was easy to find. The bus was comfortable. Waterfalls were great! Bring your own water shoes if you don’t want a rental opinion. Our shooter guy did a great job taking pictures and videos for us. The lunch was yummy and we liked the local beer.
The waterfalls were gorgeous and so much fun!! There was a bit of a hike but we had older women and young kids who all made it easily. Definitely worth it! Tammy was our guide for the day and she was friendly, the car was sooo nice and she had lots of info to share with us on the way there and back.
Incredible experience! Our favorite excursion of our cruise. The waterfalls were absolutely stunning and so fun sliding and jumping down them. What really made our experience, though, was our guides - Daniella, William, Chocolate, and Carlos. Daniella was very sweet and knowledgeable, William our great driver. Chocolate and Carlos we absolutely adored! They were SO much fun taking us through the falls, getting great pictures, joking around laughing with us the whole way. The other guides with other groups (Tony) also joked around with us too so all around we just had so much fun. They took great pictures that we appreciated having. The lunch was great, the plantation was small but it’s okay as we were really just there for the falls. We also loved that our group was small, felt very personalized. All around a 10/10 experience!
The walk up to the waterfalls was indeed a bit difficult which was really nice actually, but just know if you are not used to outdoor activity this will be very difficult.
The guides we had for the waterfall tours were amazing along with the photographer and the driver. I do wish the photographer would have let us just buy a couple photos and not all of them but other than that it was super nice.
The food stop felt very rushed, but the food was fantastic so it is definitely worth the trade off.
The "Plantation" was hardly that. You see more fields during the hike to and from the waterfalls. It really is them just trying to sell you things but it still was pretty nice to see.
Before I say anything else, I must start by saying this felt like a private guided tour by the best tour guide and driver we have ever had!!! Jonathon was kind, knowledgeable and made us feel like he was taking care of his family, not to mention that he was our own personal photographer. Tami was just as kind and helpful and drove her beautifully clean Honda Civic with amazing skill and safety. We always felt safe and cared for.
***And now to the waterfall. It was a good hike to get there, but soooo worth it. We have been to many waterfalls in many countries but we have never experienced any thing like this. We felt like we were in Jurassic Park. Beautiful plants, fun slides, crystal clear water and options to do 3 meter jumps.
It was an overall perfect tour.
Our guide (started with an O) and photographer, Cristopher were great!! The fried fish on buffet was wonderful & I enjoyed the rum & coffee tasting. Definitely worth the money. I’m 61 & will tell you…it’s a steep hike to falls, but our guide stopped plenty of times to give us a breather.
1st I would like to say our tour guide Carmen was a blessing, she was attentive ,informative and took very good care of us. The walk to meet her was outside of the Amber cove port about a 10 min walk from the port. There were 4 in our party and we fit perfectly in her vehicle we didn't realize we booked a private VIP excursion. I must say the actual hike to the falls is fairly difficult if you are not in shape or used to hiking. They have you hike in water shoes and your swimsuit, life jacket provided by them and helmet. The terrain is very rough lots of rocks steps and uneven pavement. I would have preferred to have sneakers on because my feet were in so much pain. Once you get to the 1st slide after 35-40min hike the only way back down is going down each waterfall slide. If you are not a strong swimmer I would NOT suggest this for you. The water current was very strong and pulls you under even with the life jacket. I do NOT swin and I thought i thought there was an alternate route down. There is NOT. Needless to say I made it down, with some bumps and bruises but made it. Carmen was waiting for us at the bottom of the falls and took us to have lunch which was delicious. Then we went to a coffee plantation to finish the tour. It was a beautiful experience. We got to taste some amazing coffee and hot chocolate. We also held a tortoise and a parrot. They had a nice gift shop at the end where you can purchase items from the plantation. Carmen drop us at the entrance of the Amber Cove port where we had a 5 min walk back to board our cruise.
It was a great experience! We were on a cruise and booked it the day before. I by accident made the reservation for the wrong day and they were accommodating. Moved me to the right date with no issue. We booked for the waterfalls but due to the rain it was closed so we did the buggy adventure. SO MUCH FUN!! We stopped at a local cigar / chocolate factory where they gave us free cigars to try, and then to a secluded beach. Also had included lunch which was delicious. Would definitely reccomend booking with DR tours, all the tour guides were helpful and kind.
This was an absolute blast, and by far my boyfriend and I’s favorite excursion we did. There was a bit of a hike up to the waterfalls (you must go up to be able to come down haha!) but there were plenty of spots to rest along the way. The guides were super great, and helpful, and they provided us helmets, life jackets, and bottled water.
The natural water slides were SO much fun, and you go pretty quickly down them. The last waterfall you get to, you can either jump (about 18ft), slide down (with about a 6 foot drop), or climb down the stairs. My boyfriend and I chose to jump and it was SO much fun! While we both know how to swim, there were guides in the water helping pull us out of other people’s way as others made their way down the slides / jump.
This is definitely something I would do again!
Had an absolute blast with the Choco Latte family. Daniella, Jonathan, Emil and Choco Latte were awesome. Daniella meet us outside of Taino Bay and guide us to our transportation. The bus had AC, was clean and well equipped. They provided water upon arrival.
Daniella provided some DR facts during the ride and we listened to some DR music.
The hike is about 30-40 min, but you get multiple breaks. Sliding down the waterfalls was exciting and awesome. This was my first time doing an excursion like this.
My recommendation. Get some good water shoes with thicker soles, as you will be walking across rocks. It is best if you know how to swim because when you slide down the waterfall you will go underwater. You do have a life vest, so you will float, but knowing how to swim prepares you for how to react once you hit the water. We did 3 smaller water slides and one long one that was 18ft high. You have the option to slide or jump and they even have stairs to climb down. There were several kids that were terrified and climbed down during my excursion. I would definitely do it again.
After we left the waterfalls, we had a Dominican lunch at a restaurant. The food was delicious. Next we visited a small farm were they rolled cigars. We had the mammajana drink, tasted chocolate and did a little but of shopping.
Over all a really good experience. The excursion is just as described.
Also, we paid a lot less booking through Viator instead of the cruise ship.
We LOVED our experience on this excursion! The staff was very helpful and attentive. Definitely worth the money and they even had someone to take photos for us so we didn’t need to worry about that part. Chocolate did such a great job with the photography. Absolutely recommend trying it out!
This exciting excursion was fantastic! The hike was strenuous but my 6 year old did it. Once at the top we went down probably 5 natural water slides through natural springs. Everyone had a great time.The staff was kind the facilities were clean. Then we had a wonderland lunch prepared for us and tried the local chocolate and rum! Great experience.
Went on this excursion with my twins 12 year old boy/girl. We loved this excursion but be prepared for the more than 30 minute hike. The sliding and jumping was awesome. Make sure you have extra money to buy the photos.
