Itinerary
Your experience begins with early-morning pickup from your Bavaro or Punta Cana hotel, then a scenic drive inland with your local guide. The first stop is a traditional Dominican plantation, where you’ll meet local farmers and learn how organic methods are used to grow cinnamon, cacao, coffee, and vanilla. Sample fresh coffee or hot chocolate, and browse a small selection of products available to purchase directly from the source.
Continue deeper into the countryside as you travel up a mountain road into the jungle. Arrive at Monkeyland, a five-acre (2-hectare) natural habitat dedicated to the care of squirrel monkeys. Walk through the sanctuary with your guide, observe the monkeys up close, and enjoy the opportunity to watch and feed them in their environment.
Before heading back, visit the botanical garden to see native trees, plants, and flowers. Then, relax on the return drive to your hotel, with transportation taken care of from start to finish.

Ruddy and Daniel were amazing tour guide! We experienced the cultural, monkeys (45 mins), then we learned about coffee and chocolate. 2 adults and 1 child (10). She loved the monkeys! You got to feed them often, they climb all over you. The sites are beautiful! The history and understanding how chocolate and coffee are made was interesting! Even my daughter liked the chocolate presentation. Our pick up and drop off was on time and with ease! We highly recommend this tour!

I would highly recommend this unique tour! Our family had an amazing time from start to finish. We were picked up punctually in a comfortable, air-conditioned bus by our guide Juan Cruz (the "Dominican Tom Cruise"), who kept us entertained and informed for the entire journey from our hotel.
Once we arrived, the briefing was swift and helpful. The experience with the squirrel monkeys was absolutely unforgettable—they jumped right on our heads and played with us as we walked through the enclosure. You can easily see that the monkeys are incredibly well looked after. We took loads of our own photos on our phones, but the professional photos taken by the guides were very reasonably priced at just $50 for the full digital set or $10 per print (a massive savings compared to the $150 many other excursions charge).
After Monkeyland, we toured a real Dominican home. Eddie gave a fantastic presentation on how local cacao, cinnamon, coffee, and coconut products are produced. We loved the demonstrations, the tastings of organic produce, and the small cup of Mama Juana! There was a completely zero-pressure opportunity to buy some of these local products, which felt like a great way to help contribute to the local community.
The core experience lasted exactly 3 hours, bringing the total trip to just over 4.5 hours with transport. If you want to meet well-cared-for monkeys and learn about Dominican culture, this is a must-do!

Such a fun and unique time! There are lockers for your stuff. Free community one or $5 for a private one. The drive through town was informative and very interesting. 100% recommend

Monkey experience was good, I would recommend wearing a hat as they are like babies and will pee... Great pictures taken. I would say the men are a little aggressive when talking to you or even when trying to purchase items. I will say bring cash because they will make you stop at the locals to spend money before each major stop. We learned about the coffee and the history of chocolate which was also cool and interesting. The experience is a long day so please be ready for that. Make sure to wear gym shoes.

Dear Visitor,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us!
We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed your visit to Monkeyland, learned about our coffee and chocolate traditions, and were happy with the photos from your experience.
We also appreciate your feedback regarding some of your interactions with our staff and local vendors. We are sorry if any part of the experience felt too assertive, as this is not the standard of service we aim to provide. Your comments have been shared with the appropriate team for review.
For future visitors, we also recommend wearing comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes to fully enjoy the excursion.
Thank you again for your valuable feedback. We hope to welcome you back for another memorable adventure in the future!

The experience was awesome! Could have been shorter on the sell at the end but the experience overall was one of the best we experienced!

Good experience with the monkeys. Tour guide was great, would definitely do it again in the near future.
Rosalie_F, Jul 2026
This was such a highlight of our DR trip. We loved learning about growing coconuts, chocolate, and coffee, and meeting these monkeys was so much fun. They really do jump all over you so if you're not up for that it may not be the place for you. They are so little and cute and bold.

Cracking excursion with an excellent guide called George, made us very welcome and gave us a history tour on the way! Brilliant trip and highly recommend

Loved this excursion! From our driver to the tour guides, everything was fantastic. The monkeys were absolutely adorable and the facilities all around were clean and well maintained.

Of all the tourist-type excursions I've done in my life, this was by far the most well done! The guide, Miguel, on the ride up to the mountain was so knowledgable and helped us understand what life is like in the small villages we drove through. The experience with the monkeys was great, and we absolutely loved the presentation about cacao, coffee, and Mama Juana! Tip: do not interact with the monkeys with sunglasses on top of your head---they will get scratched accidentally! The entire trip was informative, fun, and interactive. The presenters, monkey keepers, and guides spoke multiple languages and made sure everyone was having a good time (the one they call Young Boy was great). Everyone was smart, funny, and helpful. I'd highly recommend this excursion.

My husband and I had so much fun learning about fun facts about the country on our ride there, our tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable. Upon arrival we were seated with a large group to learn and taste cocoa in all its stages. The squirrel monkeys were the best part, they are cute, curious and very light. 100/10 would recommend.

One of the highlights of our trip in Punta Cana. The monkeys were very active in the morning. I would recommend doing the zip line and plantation taste testing too.

This excursion was well worth our. Had a blast with the monkeys and products sold were reasonably priced.

I had an amazing time. Good Boy was our host and he was great!!! Our driver was very good as well. Forgot his name but we were bus #54. The staff was great as well. This experience I definitely recommend to everyone of all ages!! Monkeys were super friendly and lovely. I enjoyed every minute of it.

The whole experience from learning about coffee, coca, and mamajuana to meeting the cute little monkeys was a 10/10! Everyone was so nice! Shoutout to our trip leader Luis! He gave us some great knowledge about their island.
Robyn_S, Jun 2026
From pick up to drop off the excursion was amazing! Young Boy and Castillo were the best tour guides. The monkeyland staff was amazing. Warm and welcoming. They did a stellar job of making sure the monkeys were engaging with the tour. Highly recommend!

Such an amazing time. The driver was entertaining and informative. The monkeys were so cute. The staff were professional and interactive. The coffee and mamajuana were excellent. 100% recommend and would do it again!

We had a great time and learned a lot. I really enjoy the live interaction and how informative our guide Eddie and Nelson were throughout the day. I really enjoyed the coffee and DR Mamajuana tasting and the whole experience.
From the pick up throughout the day until we were dropped off it was a smooth day and had a blast. Would return again. Highly recommend. Making more family memories.
Travis_L, Jun 2026
Great experience with a family which also secretly (not so secretly) teaches you about local culture on the way. Rudy was an excellent guide!
Travis_A, Jun 2026
This experience was phenomenal, worth every penny. Our guides were knowledgeable and kind. The older gentlemen who gave us a tour of the plantation was hilarious.
Carolyn_S, Jun 2026
Had a very good time. Fun experience. Monkey experience fun and safe to do. Learned about how coffee, chocolate and "MamaJuana" are made. Not pushy to buy. And when they say it is cheaper to buy there than off the property, they mean it!
Special shout out to Santiago and Candyman.
Heather_G, Jun 2026
AMAZING experience and would definitely recommend! We had so much fun and it was an experience of a lifetime!
Brian_Z, Jun 2026
This trip is best for kids and my son liked the little monkeys crawling around him and on him. The experience was in an enclosed space, though, with 20 also monkeys in total and not a wild zoo. They have photos for sale, pretty expensive but it is your choice. Same as all other tours in the area, they also push you for sales on local products but also not mandatory.
Erin_L, Jun 2026
Our tour guide Angel and driver Edison were amazing! We learned so much about Dominican culture during the drive. The plantation tour allowed us to try coffee, hot chocolate, cocoa butter, shaved chocolate and even freshly open cacao beans. So informative and interactive! The Monkeyland adventure was so much fun. We all had ample time with the monkeys and the pictures taken were very affordable. We also were able to take our own photos with our cell phones. All around great experience! Would highly recommend!!
Rhiannon_R, Jun 2026
Hands down the best!! Our guide Angel was so fun and knowledgeable of the country; he had a real pride in his job and his country. I learned so much during this excursion about the Dominican Republic. I can not say enough positive things about him and this experience. If there was one draw back I do wish that we had a bit more time with the monkey's it went by so quickly.
Melinda_S, Jun 2026
Gary was a terrific guide. He was very informative and friendly. The monkeys were absolutely adorable.
jariah_j, Jun 2026
If I could give this excursion a zero I would. First and foremost, communication is non existent. I had to re-schedule my initial booking due to falling ill during our stay. When given my ideal reschedule date, NO ONE ever followed up or responded to my message to confirm the new date was locked in. The night before my rescheduled booking, I wrote the tour operators AGAIN to confirm the new booking and received no answer! On the day of the new booking, I received a text from the operators on WhatsApp telling me that a driver was downstairs in the lobby waiting to pick me up! I NEVER received any messages about pick-up times etc. Due to me leaving the next day, I did inform them that I was unable to reschedule and would like a refund. They then informed me, that they were unable to provide me a refund because it went against their
Policy!!!!! When I expressed that I should be accommodated for the lack of communication for the rescheduled date, they then blocked me on WhatsApp!!!! Terrible Service!

The employees care so much for the safety of the monkeys. It was nice how ethical the experience was. The demo prior to seeing the monkeys was great as well.
Wilburn_E, Jun 2026
Angel and Luciano were great. We really appreciated learning about the Dominican people, culture, coffee making and chocolate making process as well as having the monkeys climb all over us. The staff at Monkeyland gave us several opportunities to see the monkeys up close and have pictures with them. Loved it. We actually recommended it to some friends who were staying at the same resort we were the very next day. They went two days later and said they loved it as well. :-)
Kelsey_M, Jun 2026
The experience over all was amazing!!! The tour guides were great! Very informational. You get to spend a good amount of time with the monkeys, however it is super hard not to touch them. I completely understand we can not do this for our own safety... but I think I would have taken my chances. 😀 Thank you for a great day!

Lots of walking to the coffee tasting but very worth it, plenty of areas for photo ops. My favorite was the house that had the swing in front with a view of the mountains. Beautiful. Monkeyland was cool.
