Itinerary

Begin with hotel pickup from your accommodation in Punta Cana.

After a short safety briefing, set off along dirt tracks and natural paths that cut through small communities, farmland, and tropical scenery. Along the way, your guide shares insight into everyday life in the Dominican countryside.

The route passes colorful local houses and agricultural areas, with stops that introduce regional products such as Dominican coffee. These moments break up the ride and add context to what you’re seeing.

The experience also includes time near Macao Beach, where a stretch of white sand and ocean views offers a chance to relax and cool off before the return to Punta Cana.

Drivers should note that the dune buggies are manual transmission vehicles, and participants must be comfortable driving a stick shift.

Fun trip

Joey_K, Jun 2025
Could get muddy, fun 1/2 day trip, wish we had gotten the full day. Cars are easy to drive and guide was exceptional.

Off-road fun with a splash of Dominican culture

Catherine_W, Mar 2024
Fantastic cultural and buggy experience! We highly recommend and will definitely be back to do this excursion again’

Best Buggies in Punta Cana

Sam_T, Nov 2023
Really fun experience! You will likely get extremely muddy- bring clothes and shoes you’re ready to ruin! Overall great trip, excellent guide and really good buggies (make sure you really can drive stick, not just kind of know).

Don't book if you're not an expert in driving a manual shift car. Guide won't let you drive.

Ashley_W, Sep 2023
Our guide didn't allow us to drive the Dune Buggy because we were not "expert" manual shift drivers. He said his buggys cost too much to let us drive even though that's what we paid for. The countryside was nice and we were able to tour inside someone's home, but overall, this was just ok. Would not book again due to not being able to drive our own buggy. We were able to drive our own in St. Lucia but our guide did not care.

Xtremely danger,50% of the ride was on a busy street and freeway with a lot of trafic ,for me and my family was not safe at all ,the guide that is the owner dosnt have maners to talk to the clients ,allways on the rush ,the ride in the country side was really nothing to see but trees, good luck

Response from Host, Jun 2023

Good Morning Jorge, Thank you for your review. It is a good reminder for everyone Booking our tour. You have to be familiar and comfortable driving stick shift. " I have done it before" It's been a while" most of the time is not enough. Our Buggy's are street legal, we drive on public roads here in the Dominican and so do you when you book our tour. Jet, we are accident free. Our Guides are keeping the group together and safe. Sometimes that includes a serious talk. Accept our apologies if that has hurt your feelings. * Sorry for "only trees" in the countryside, we thought you enjoyed talking to Francesca, having coffee and see some green bevore going back to lights and desert :-) It was nice meeting you and your family Jorge.

Awesome day!!

Carla_H, Jul 2022
We had the best time on our xtreme buggy excursion! A few points to make sure your experience goes as smoothly as ours did. When you book, send a message via WhatsApp to the company. They respond promptly and we were able to confirm our pickup time and place easily. If you can, make sure to wear older clothes that you don't mind getting really dirty. Dryfit or water repellant fabric is a good idea so the mud/dirt doesn't set in. You will get dirt everywhere including in your hair lol!. We did use t-shirts for head and face protection but they do have bandanas and gaiters available for sale at the shop before the excursion starts. Water shoes are a better option than sneakers - the dead giveaway is that the guide was wearing them. They do provide goggles for eye protection. It goes without saying that you have tp be able to drive a stick- these buggies are awesome, unkillable little tanks! There is no ability to adjust the seats so if you are a shortie it may be tough for you but not impossible. Our safety briefing was done by Charley and Ralph was our guide. Both were excellent. Ralph took the best pictures and videos throughout the day so we didn't have to worry about taking any and for a minimal price we got the digital copies by the end of the day. The tour was conducted in both German and English and we were able to see a side of the DR that many tourists probably will not. There was no hard selling, hustling or visiting any typical tourist traps which I think is a great bonus. You do stop in a typical corner store and can purchase items but this is not a requirement. If you can, do the full day tour. Based on the professionalism of the company and the amount of fun we had on the half day, the full day would have been outstanding. We recommend this company and when we return to the DR we will definitely be back. Bring a plastic

Best Excursion Ever!

Lynn_C, May 2022
One the best excursions I’ve ever taken. It is extreme, and you will get dirty. You have to be prepared (I.e. long sleeve shirt, Banda, Face covering, etc). Tour wraps up its stops at a really nice Beach, which is refreshing after the jungle tour! Highly recommended for those looking for a more extremed Off-road Dune Buggy experience. 5/23/2022

Highly recommend off road adventure!

Xtreme Buggys amazing

Kathryn_S, Apr 2022
The whole excersion was amazing from start to finish. If you want to see the real dominican republic then this is a must. The whole team are funny, real care that you have a good time and E eveything is safe. I can't recommend xtreme Buggys enough

Be Prepared to Get Muddy!

Alex_S, Feb 2022
Definitely an experience I would recommend! This isn’t one of those “tourist excursions” your hotel raves about. This is your chance to experience a little bit of the actual Dominican countryside in a small group. The guide was great, courteous, and personable. Was so much fun, Will definitely be a repeat customer if I ever return to the Dominican Republic. Can’t recommend enough but like the title says, you will get muddy but that’s the fun!

Never showed up. Lied.

Demetric_G, Aug 2021
I would give a zero but you can’t. They never picked me up from my hotel. I called and they said they had tried to reach me. I did not have or email from the company. When I filed a dispute they lied and say they sent numerous emails.

Response from Host, Sep 2021

Please always check your voucher. If YOU have to confirm and give information, please do so. Us sending emails asking where you are is pure courtesy. Please have a look on the Map and choose an excursion close to you and not 500 KM & 6 Hours away, on the other side of the Island. (Which still is not a problem if you follow the instructions on your voucher and confirm 48 hours before your trip. You can easily still cancel with a full refund. ) If you call 30 minutes after your excursion time, never shared your Hotel information with the tour supplier ( And tell them that you are 430 KM away) , never called or emailed as you are ask to do on your booking, Information, please do not call other people liars. ... with your booking you make sure we keep your Buggy for you on the day that you choose. For us that means, we can not give it to anybody else. ... and we did not. But we also can not pay for your mistake. Check your Voucher, read your travel agreement.

The real deal! Fun, exciting and real.

TRUE BUGGY EXPERIENCE

Jordan_K, Dec 2020
This tour was exciting and fast paced. Ask for Ralph as a guide. But, do be sure you can keep up! Very exciting to see the real Dominican lifestyle with an experienced guide. It was a great time a real authentic buggy experience. My buggy was in great running condition for our tour.

Response from Host, Dec 2020

Thank you Jordan, it was a pleasure having you on our tour. We hope to see you again on our full day adventure, ... soemtime!

Great, mud-filled ride!

Kurt_S, Nov 2020
If you want to go off the beaten path and get down and dirty, this is the one to do! You, or a member of your party must be able to drive a 4 speed. These are Volkswagen dune buggies with a 4 speed. Bring water and a few munchies they don’t provide much due to COVID. And no sandals if you are driving!

Awesome for Real Drivers

Andreea_R, Mar 2019
This is not that regular ATV experience. It's something more, extra! It's not for occasional drivers, it's for real driver enthusiasts. If you like Volkswagen, they use the old Beetle as a base to the buggies (like the Cali Buggies) Aircooled Flat Engines and Stick Shift (old beetle gearbox as well) So be prepared to a driving challenge if you are not used to Old Gearboxes!!! The trail and the experience was awesome, I wish I've done full day instead half a day!!!!

Amazing!

Amy_H, Jan 2019
I booked this excursion as a gift for someone. I was so terribly nervous leaving the resort (everyone kept saying don’t leave the resort)! I’m SO happy I did not listen and followed through with the excursion. What an incredible amazing experience. We did get muddy and the was fun but there are no words to describe the knowledge and new found respect I have for the people of the Dominican Republic, not to mention my increased appreciation for my freedoms and to be an American citizen! I walked away from this trip with a desire to learn more about the Dominican Republic. I loved the resort but this experience was by far my favorite part of the trip! A huge Thank you to Mark (our tour guide) for sharing your knowledge and love of this country!!! And thank you to Angela for all you do to help the animals❤️ I would recommend to anyone that goes to being a bag full of candy/treats for the children and a bag full of treats for the dogs (they are so sweet and appreciative of this).

Overall, we totally recommend this tour! You definitely will get dirty, so wear clothes you plan on throwing away bring a bandana and wear a bathing suit underneath and bring a towel. But it is really fun getting splashed with mud! Our English tour was quite small, only us, the tour guide, and one other family, so youll most likely get your own dune buggy which is great! Throughout the tour we stopped a few times where our tour guide, Mark, told us about the real Dominican Republic that tourists dont normally see. It was so interesting and he is so knowledgeable and funny! It is a must that you drive stick shift and well. Also, on the first part of the tour, the roads are very bumpy so if youre sensitive to that, beware. In a nutshell, this tour is a must and we had so much fun!

Great experience and revealing look...

Diane_C, Apr 2018
Great experience and revealing look at residents' life in the DR. The guide Charlie was a little cranky and obsessed about his dune buggies BMWs they are not, but overall it was a blast, fun, interesting, and really beautiful. Bring bandannas for your face, candy for the kids along the way, and if you mind mud in all your crevices, it's not the adventure for you!

Elizabeth C, Apr 2018
We had the BEST day with Mark. He not only provided us with a safe adventure through the Dominican Republic, but he also taught us so much about the people and the country. It was a perfect trip for my 7 year old as well. It was beautiful, fun and truly a wonderful day. Thank you Mark!!!! We have great memories. Way better than any other dune buggy excursion. Others at our hotel complained about their trip and were very jealous of the small number and personal attention we received. Do not look any further!

Alisha W, Apr 2018
This was an amazing tour. The tour driver was so knowledgeable and we learned a lot and saw A LOT of different scenery. Really really enjoyed this excursion. I would do it again. The only thing that I wish was that the seats were movable so for short people like me it would be easier to drive. Oh and you get VERY muddy on this trip LOL. Don't plan to wear those clothes again on your vacation.

As one of the group members stated...

Andrea B, Mar 2018
As one of the group members stated this trip is really for the boys. I booked this trip for my group - first, do not book an odd number of people, they will not let you rent a solo buggy so someone will be in half to ride in the back. Next, they make you wear eyewear that will not allow for you to wear your sunglasses, on a nice bright day, in which our was, a couple of us had headaches by the end of the trip. They made a stop in a field and told the girls to squat in once place and the boys could relieve themselves in another area? The girls were not impressed by this at all, and we are not girly girls but we have some standards. Then they said we would be taken to a place with real facilities - not so much - it had a toilet with no seat, and did not flush. The guide was always telling us to keep up and became a jerk about it at one point with 2 of the drivers - this man has driven these roads for 20 years and knows them by heart and it is our instinct to slow down when we see a hold the size of a small swimming pool in the road but - no keep pace and hit it hard. But what really got my goat was that they were all safety first at the meeting before we left and then on the way home were drove on the Highway for several miles with no windshields and if a rock had come up and hit someone it could have done some real damage, next if it had rained that would have hurt like heck and it is pretty common knowledge our guide even admitted to this that drinking and driving is accepted practice in the DR. So with all of this in mind I could not understand for the life of me and my friends why they thought taking us on the highway driving 45 miles per hour was such a good idea if safety was their first concern? All in all it if you take this trip you could be one bad turn away from a real sh.t show. I am not a over reactor, really I'm not, had we stayed on the back dirt roads I would have been fine, but the minute we hit the Highway for miles, I just saw all of the things that could have gone so wrong and the last thing I wanted it for any of my friends to end up in a DR hospital.

Kelsie A, Jan 2018
This tour was absolutely amazing! We almost had to cancel because my father got terribly carsick on a separate excursion and was wary of heading out of the resort, but we are so glad we didn't! Angela made sure to personally reach out to us before the tour to confirm reservations and offer any help she had to provide. We were picked up right on time at our resort in a van and then took the relatively short and very peaceful! drive to the operation's base where we separated into two groups based on which language we spoke. From there we went through some instructions with our guide, Daniel, and were put into our buggies. Our group had three separate buggies, one for each couple, and Daniel was great. He made sure to rotate the order in which we followed him and took a lot of wonderful photos. The tour started out in the rain but it didn't hamper our experience at all -- in fact I think it enhanced it! We stopped by a local market where Daniel explained what happened there and gave us some facts about the locals and their lives. Here we tried the coffee which is AWESOME! and chocolate. We got to drive for quite a long time before stopping at another market, this time in town, where we had drinks and snacks. Our last stop was at the beach in Macao I think. Some locals tried to come up to us to sell us photos with animals and Daniel stepped in to fend them off when they got a little persistent. He made us feel extremely welcome, the tour was absolutely fantastic, the people that were on the tour with us were great too -- this was basically the highlight of the trip and we are so glad we ended up going.
