A really fantastic experience driving the ATV buggies! The operators were friendly, organised, and communicated clearly, so everything ran smoothly — including pick-up from the cruise port. The whole trip felt well planned and we were really well looked after. Just be prepared: you will get absolutely soaked in mud, so bring water shoes and wear clothes you don’t mind getting very dirty. We had so much fun!

Awesome muddy time

Megan_G, Jul 2026
We were with a group of 14. Some friends and family. All of us of all ages had the best time. Wear old clothes. You are getting soaked! We really felt like we got a great bang for the buck on this one. It was jam packed fun.

You need to be prepared to get soaked and very dirty. I was not prepared for how muddy all of my clothes and belongings got. Do not bring anything valuable and make sure if you bring your phone you put it in a waterproof case. Wear old clothes and shoes that you don’t mind getting ruined, and bring a change of clothes. It was a fun tour though!

Great time!!

Great adventure to see areas you never see. There are not a lot of times where you go full throttle in the biggie, but several times to get wet. Visiting the native town was a great experience and the beach was a nice way to end the day. Staff was amazing. They were informative and attentive the whole time. I am a taller guy, they refused to let me stay crammed in the buggy and brought a bigger one out for us to use to make it more enjoyable.

VIP Experience

Bruce_D, May 2026
My wife and I had a phenomenal time on this experience, and it was everything that we hoped it would be and then some! Since there were no cruise ships arriving in to Puerto Plata the day of our excursion, it felt like we had our own private experience. Willy was our guide, and he was incredible. It felt like he gave us a VIP experience and made sure that we had a great time. The ATV was very fun to drive, and we got to experience many great scenic sites along the ride. We rode through dirt roads, villages, and by the beach. The puddles and streams were super fun to drive through too, and we got dirty, which helped make the experience. We stopped at the Jungle for souvenirs and a tasting experience. The food and drink that we tried all tasted great, and we walked away with several reasonably priced souvenirs. We had a stop at the beach which gave us the option to get in and clean off some, as well as enjoy some beautiful scenery. Once we got back to the place, they had shower facilities and changing rooms that were excellent for getting cleaned up. There was some slight confusion about our ride back to the city that was included in what we paid for, but Orlando (supervisor) made it right, and he ensured we got back safely. Overall I would give this a 10 out of 10 and highly recommend this for others to do!

50 year old guys loved being muddy boys again

Dax_G, Apr 2026
This was an amazing excursion and we booked privately (here). If you did through the cruise lines it was about 2x what we paid. We all received the same services. The only hiccup is to make sure you know what port you are arriving in and where they begin. There was some confusion but they took care of us and made it all come together. It was a rush and bit of a panic but it was 100% worth the activity. We were sloppy and covered in mud. Every bit what I hoped it would be.

Fabulous fun

A fun and muddy experience

Andrea_K, Mar 2026
This was a highlight of our trip, great excursion. It is a solid 20 minute walk to meeting point, then almost 30 mins ride in open air truck to buggy rental. I did not see any dead dogs like another reviewer mentioned in case you are worried. We went with our two teens and all had fun in a 4 person buggy. Wear water shoes or crocs, clothes that can get muddy. Def bring dry clothes including underwear to change into afterwards. It was very fun and felt very safe. Our ship opened gangway at 10, we met at 10:30, came back by 2:45pm for gangway up at 3:30. So it was a perfect use of our time. Highly recommend! Bring cash for tips and if you want to buy photo package or souvenirs. No food is provided. We ate a big breakfast beforehand and we were fine.

We had an amazing time!...

Brittany_L, Mar 2026
We had an amazing time! The guys running this were super nice and fun! You WILL get dirty and wet so I suggest bringing extra clothes & bag for your old ones! They take pics & video for you so you were able to get some amazing pics.

Super Buggy at Taino Bay

Betsy_P, Mar 2026
DR Prime Tours - guides were fantastic and it was a fun day. They did try to get you to buy some coffee or mamajuana juice - but not pushy. You definitely will get muddy - wear black. We got off the ship at 10:30, met the guide at 11:30 and back on the boat before 3pm ( Virgin departs at 5:30pm). Very fun day

It was so fun. They have storage lockers. Plan extra time to get to the pick up point. We almost missed it. 1/2 hour walk from ship. Wear old cloths.

Don't book the 4 person buggy!! Maybe think twice in general.

Danielle_E, Mar 2026
1st clue this tour was a bust was when they messaged us a few days before to tell us when and where to meet. We were told we had to be at the meeting area at 10:45, we were on a cruise that was set to dock at 10:30, and it's roughly a 20min walk through the port. We told them this and asked if we could reschedule to a later time. They said there was no other time option (though online in the app they lost multiple times) they just kept saying it was ok we would make it but that we still had to be there at 10:45. So when we docked we were one of the 1st people off and we basically ran through the port. Arrived on time and then proceeded to wait for anther hour while other families arrived. Only then to find out these other groups were given different meeting times like 11:15- 11:30. The area outside the port is ghetto, just a heads up. The staff is friendly for the most part but we saw a distinct change in attitude upon return. The 4 person buggy is a rusted death trap so don't rent that!! No alternative was offered though this was clearly not safe and most of the seat belts didn't work. You have to drive the buggies on town roads for a ways before getting to the forested area where the route is. They also take you to a private home where you do the tastings and then they try to sell you stuff. The people again were nice and but once you didn't buy stuff they changed. The stuff they are selling is crazy over priced! We definitely felt uncomfortable during this point. On the way back you stop at a beach. The first beach we went to was so filled with garbage the guy leading the tour took us to a different beach. The 2nd one was nice, and we appreciated going there instead but thought it was strange that they didn't already know how bad the 1st was. We're a family of 4, 2 of us somewhat enjoyed this experience and the other 2 hated it. No one in our group could fulling enjoy it because the buggy was so rusted out, old and barely worked that it was legit scary. Plus all the dead dogs we passed along route was heartbreaking (not the tours fault), but worth mentioning in case anyone reading this has kids or they themselves would be negatively affected by seeing them. All in all would wouldn't recommend this tour and definitely wouldn't do it again.

Would do it again in a heartbeat

Rafael_A, Mar 2026
You won't regret it! Had a blast, my 18yr old laughed his butt off because of how much fun he had, and you know teens don't have fun unless theres a phone or friends!

Best experience ever!

Connie_C, Feb 2026
We did this as an excursion from a cruise ship. It was easy to navigate to and the staff are amazing! Highly recommend this experience! So fun! They have lockers for your items or take a dry bag as you will get wet and muddy.

Amazing staff! Would definitely do again. To have fun you must be willing to get dirty!!! Highly recommended!

We had such a blast!!

Alison_B, Jan 2026
you will get muddy - but that's what makes it so much fun! They do offer bandanas and water proof phone cases to purchase - they are a must (you can obviously bring your own)

Kids of all ages Enjoyed

Tamesha_C, Jan 2026
Experience was great and the guides were amazing, patient and accommodating. Only bad thing I have to say was that we were very rushed at the buggies (around 30 minutes of total buggy time) because the waterfall experience took longer than expected. I suggest seeing if you can do the buggies first. Be prepared to hike. The jump into the waterfall was amazing!!!

So fun! Muddy and wet...

Suzanne_H, Dec 2025
So fun! Muddy and wet and 100% worth it. Had a family buggy and got to be last in line so we’d slow down and leave space then punch it and go for it! Beach was lovely and picture package is worth it.

Great experience, fully recommend the 5 seat buggy for a fun experience

PedroLuis_B, Dec 2025
We did the 5 buggy experience. We had 3 kids + mum & dad. Kids absolutely loved it. Fully recommend it. I made a mistake on my booking and staff was very responsive and help me fixed it on the spot. Very honest and reliable. Also, our guide was fantastic with our small children! Fully recommend the experience

Super Muddy and Fun Dune Buggy Excursion

Joe_S, Nov 2025
What a great time we had! You will get disgustingly muddy—and it’s awesome fun. Dress for the occasion! Transportation was located just outside the gate, about an easy 15-minute walk once you get off the cruise ship. The company was easy to find; they had a clear sign, and check-in was simple. From there, they transported us about 5–7 minutes to the dune buggy basecamp, a nice little area with clean restrooms, running water, and a small bar with drinks and snacks. Everyone was friendly and helpful. We signed some forms, got helmets and goggles, and were given a quick overview before heading out to pick our dune buggy. Some of them looked a bit rough, but they had plenty of power—they definitely take a beating through the jungle and mud! You absolutely need goggles and some sort of face covering. We used the bandanas they provided, but once we hit the first mud hole we realized they were too tight—we could hardly breathe as they suctioned to our faces. We loosened them up and powered through. We followed the group through the jungle and hit plenty of mud holes. Give yourself space from the buggy in front of you and really hammer down—those mud holes are the best part! When we got too close, it wasn’t as fun, so we backed off and enjoyed it more. Some people in our group barely went through the mud, but we went for it and had a blast. Be prepared: mud will get into every crack and crevice. A plastic poncho won’t help. A dry bag *is* essential to keep your stuff clean and dry. The ride through the jungle was pretty cool and gave us a glimpse of how the locals live in the hills and mountains of the DR—an eye-opening experience. We stopped at a local spot where we learned how they make chocolate, coffee, and cigars. We got samples, had about 30 minutes to look around, shop, and use the restrooms. The locals do encourage you to buy things, but it’s not overwhelming. After the stop, we hit more mud holes and eventually ended up at the beach. This was awesome—we all jumped into the warm water to rinse off as much mud as possible. You can see the cruise ships from the beach, which makes for great muddy photo ops. After hanging out for a bit, we headed back to basecamp on pavement. Overall, it was a fantastic excursion and well worth the price. If you want to explore the Dominican Republic’s jungle in a dune buggy and get insanely muddy, this is the perfect excursion for you and your family. There were four of us, so we got two 2-seaters. They do have a 4-seater, but we didn’t think it would be as fun. They also took photos and videos throughout the trip, which you can purchase at the end. They don’t push it hard, but it’s a nice option.

Super fun do this!! Great way to see island and have a new experience

Super fun and great guides, they took care of everything and made it easy going and safe. Loved it!!

Fun (and dirty)...

Eric_S, Nov 2025
Fun (and dirty) experience. Company staff were great. Would recommend to others. If cruising, also recommend checking out Taino Bay Port pool area.

Long walk to the truck!

Tracy_R, Nov 2025
First thing it is not a short 20 yard or whatever they called the walk, it’s a 20 minute walk out the port! Dune buggies were super fun! Stopping at a shopping sport was boring, the beach was right across from the port so the water was murky and sandy could not snorkel. Then we get back and apparently the ride back to the port was not included so that was another 15$ taxi ride. If it was just the buggies it would have been great.

Best experience ever

Donald_F, Oct 2025
The guides were very nice. The ride is definitely worth the price of admission. Alfonso was a really cool guy. Made sure we had the best experience. Definitely bring a change of clothes including underwear. You WILL get muddy.
