We had such an amazing day collecting materials to dye with, learning about natural dyeing and learning how to weave by wonderful experts! Our interpreter was also incredibly knowledgeable about the material himself and had a great respect for the work the women do and the history of the craft. Travel to and from was smooth, and lunch was delicious!
Response from Host, Apr 2026

This was one of the most fun and educational things we did in Cusco. It was so great to learn how generations before us have dyed wool, woven and told stories through the cloth and how this knowledge has been passed down. I don't know where to start, I am ecstatic after the course! It was so great to meet women at the center and watch them weave, learn about the craft and to buy handmade products directly from the women who made it. We got to make bookmarks (with good help), and now when I take out the book I always have to admire the bookmark before I can start reading. If I go back to Peru, this is something I will do again - without a doubt!
Response from Host, Aug 2025
Thank you so much for your wonderful words! We are truly delighted to know that this experience brought you joy, inspiration, and meaningful memories with the talented women artisans. It makes us proud that your handmade bookmark continues to remind you of Cusco’s rich traditions. We will be more than happy to welcome you again for another unforgettable cultural journey in Peru.

This was an amazing experience of learning about the community, weavers, making new friends, learning about ways to dye with organic materials and weaving. The food and conversion was amazing. We learned a lot about each other while learning a new skill. I highly recommend this tour, it was a great experience. The drive through the countryside was all part of the experience.
Response from Host, Jun 2025
Thank you for your lovely review! We're so happy to hear you enjoyed learning about the community, weaving, and natural dyes. It’s great that you made new friends and meaningful memories along the way. The countryside drive really adds to the experience—thank you for recommending the tour!

This was definitely a one of a kind experience! We learned how to make yarn from alpaca wool, learned how to dye the wool, and all about the different materials used to dye it. We also learned about the Quechua culture, and all the work that goes into weaving large pieces. We got to know the weavers and Edwin (our translator) over a delicious lunch. I would recommend this experience to anyone looking to dive a little deeper into the culture. I would warn that it is quite a drive from Cusco- the drive was about an hour and a half. So it ended up being an entire day between the drive and the activity itself. Which was ok with us, but I wish I had planned better for the amount of time it would take.
Response from Host, May 2025
Thank you for sharing your detailed experience! We’re happy to hear you enjoyed learning about alpaca wool, dyeing, and Quechua culture, and that you connected well with the weavers and Edwin. Thanks for the helpful note about the drive—it’s definitely important to plan for the full day. We appreciate your recommendation and hope you carry those cultural memories with you for a long time!

Great experience. Thoroughly recommended. Beautiful people from start to finish. Well organised. Very happy :)
Hannah_B, Apr 2025
This experience was one of my favorite things on this trip to Cusco. Our tour host/translator was kind and knowledgeable about the weaving process, and the expert weavers were so talented and loved sharing their knowledge and skill. We knew we would be dying some yarn, but going out to collect material for the dye bath and prepare it was a really unique part of this trip! Watching the master weavers was mesmerizing, they were so fast and precise. This greatly surpassed my expectations, and I highly recommend this special tour to learn about the local natural dyes and weaving techniques and spend time with some wonderful weavers.

This was a perfect way to spend a day acclimating to the altitude. Getting to meet and learn from these talented women, to eat together and to learn how much hard work and skill goes into weaving---I'll never forget any of this. I was a little nervous it might feel touristy or even exploitative but it was so authentic and we learned from one another. So glad we did this--highly recommend.

A full day interactive class that deeply immerses the participant into the culture of the people from the Patabamba community via textile. This experience was much more than just textile. Our facilitator Nayda and the ladies, Marilus, Ruth, and Selena, who shared their knowledge were welcoming, informative, helpful, genuine, and kind. In addition, the setting was beautiful! I would recommend to anyone interested in not only just learning about textiles but obtain a deeper understanding of the values, customs, and way of life of the people. ( I must say this experience along with participant Jaíme have motivated me start to seriously study Spanish in order to connect with my community back home. Having learned Japanese in my early 30’s, I know for a fact that language, verbally expressed and via body language, is key to comprehension. Thank you)
Response from Host, Apr 2025
Thank you so much for your heartfelt message! We're truly touched to hear how meaningful and inspiring the experience in Patabamba was for you. Nayda, Marilus, Ruth, and Selena will be so happy to know that their warmth and knowledge made such a lasting impact. It’s wonderful to hear that this journey has even sparked a renewed passion for learning Spanish — what a beautiful way to connect more deeply with others. We wish you all the best on that path, and thank you again for sharing your experience so thoughtfully.

This experience was, in a word, amazing. Typically I’m pretty skeptical of most “cultural immersion” visits and worry about feeling extractive or voyeuristic.
Our guide Nayda and our master weaver teachers Julia and Maria were so generous, genuinely interested in our learning, and so open-minded- and they showed us all the steps of the dyeing and weaving process with patience and excitement. They are clearly committed to both preserving the textile arts that the family there has been a leader in advancing, but also making sure to honor the cultures that created them in the first place. We ate delicious food, learned some Quechua, and learned a ton About the Depth and beauty in the textile arts of the sacred Valley.
Come with an open mind and you will not regret this amazing experience!

Our entire family of 4 loved this weaving experience with the ladies in the community! We were greeted so warmly and really felt the pride in them teaching us this precious art of dyeing and weaving the thread into gorgeous patterns. We were treated to a wonderful, wholesome homecooked meal which we shared with everyone. A visit here is not just about the ruins and Inca stories but we really loved this immersive day spent with these lovely ladies, Ruth, Natividad, Lucia, and others and our most beautiful and talented tour guide, Nayda! Absolutely wonderful experience!!! I was really excited about this experience but it still far exceeded my expectations. I am a textile nerd and I really love learning about different weaving traditions. I do some tapestry weaving and macramé as a hobby, so I was extra excited to learn.
Our guide, Nayda, and a driver picked me and my partner up from our hotel in Cusco at 8:30 AM. There was also another guest who joined our tour group. We drove about an hour through the countryside, making a couple stops along the way for pictures. The drive had beautiful views!
Once we arrived at the workshop, we got to meet everyone! Our guide translated between us and the weaving ladies. We learned about plants used for dyeing yarn and for medicine. We went for a walk to collect some leaves for dye and then had a snack.
We dyed yarn and then got to pick 4 colors of yarn that was already dyed to make our bracelets. (Bookmarks were an option, but we all chose bracelets.) The ladies started our bracelets to show us how to weave.
We ate lunch together and it was fantastic! After that, there was a short break. Our group enjoyed the tranquil atmosphere and beautiful scenery before sitting down to weave.
We worked on our bracelets for a while. I learned so much! It was not super easy to pick up quickly, but the ladies and our guide helped us every step of the way.
Towards the end, our guide taught us about the traditional clothes and dressed us up. We all danced together for a song, which was lovely! We then had an opportunity to peruse the store. Honestly, it was not as expensive as I expected, and I made several purchases. We also got to take the yarn that we dyed home!
Overall, this was such a wonderful experience and I am so glad we did this. The atmosphere was peaceful and beautiful, I learned a lot about textile techniques, and I felt like I got to be more immersed in the regional culture. Our guide, Nayda, was absolutely wonderful and I would definitely recommend this experience!

This experience was beyond expectations! I had a wonderful time.
I'm a Textile Designer as my career so this tour was very meaningful to me.
It did not dissapoint!
First of all, NAYDA is the best at what she does. I was fortunate to have her all to myself on my tour as this is off-season. I was completely at ease with her as she answered a million questions from me throughout the day. She helped me navigate the ATM and a local bank to exchange cash. I was so grateful to have her with me as I speak zero spanish!!
The tour: Nayda was flexible and stopped for scenic pix and even a bite to eat which was their delicacy: Guinea pig!!!!
The day spent at the Textile workshop was magical. We started by gagething leaves to be dyed. Both Nayda and the traditional weaver woman named Dahlia knew everything about plants and what their purposes were. So much knowledge!
We then dyed yarns. A beautiful lunch spread was prepared, and it was robust and delicious.
After lunch, I was shown traditional spinning techniques and then weaving! I made my own pretty bookmark.
I definitely have such appreciation for the Andes women weavers. Their Textiles are stunning. Dahlia is so very talented!!
I highly recommend this excursion, and try to request Nayda!! Thank you!

This is an awesome experience to book. It's definitely a one of a kind thing. I was able to create my own bracelet, from beginning to end. Honestly, the people who dedicate to learn this art havey respect. You really get to see how tedious and detailed the work is. If you're on the fence about doing this, go for it, Nayda and Delia will make this experience an 11/10.

I can’t say enough about just how good this experience was. I was the only person on the day I booked and was looked after from the moment of pick up by my super friendly driver Pedro. I was warmly greeted by Nayda
Delia and the inclusive experience began there, from picking the herbs to drink, leaves for the dying process, actually dying the yarns & then setting up & using a back strap loom. The whole day is completely integral, I learned SO much and have a new found respect for just how hard & time consuming the traditional process is. We had lots of fun, a super heathy lunch and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment. And I left with a bracelet I’d mostly made myself. We even had a dance at the end! An outstanding arty experience that I’d recommend to anyone. I’d give it 10 stars if I could.
Response from Host, Jun 2023

We're thrilled that you learned so much and gained a newfound respect for the hard work and time that goes into the traditional process. It's truly remarkable how much we can learn and appreciate through immersive experiences like these.

This experience was well worth it. From being picked up at my hotel and driven to Calca by the very kind and informative driver Pedro, you can tell how much effort and skill Peru Private Tours puts into this workshop. Delia and Naydiss did an incredible job of not just providing information on their craft, but also hands-on experience. They were friendly, funny, and taught me about local traditions and knowledge that I didn’t learn about in any of my other experiences in Cusco or the Sacred Valley. In my day at the workshop, I made yarn from wool, collected plants on the hillside to dye wool, learned (but sadly forgot) some Quechua, wove a bincha (headband), danced, and ate a delicious homecooked meal. If you’re traveling solo like I was, don’t let that hold you back. They were so welcoming, and I’ll cherish this experience for a lifetime. Thank you Naydiss, Delia, and Pedro!!

This workshop exceeded my expectation, it was everything I hoped for and then some!
Anyone wanting an authentic Andean textile workshop should sign up. This isn’t the kind of workshop where there is someone showing you how they do this, in this workshop it is you actually collecting leaves, do the dying, learn to spin the yarn, and do the weaving (sometimes with a little help if needed, or wanted!). Edwin is a gem and so informative, with tremendous respect for preserving the Andean traditions and artisanship. I can’t wait to come back and bring some friends! Highly recommend this!

Had a great day in Calca, learning about the natural, traditional ways to prepare yarn, collect plants, create dyes, dye yarn and finally weave. Note that the weaving part is REALLY challenging (in a good, educational way). It gives you a whole new perspective for the true art that these communities create. It is so valuable to society that they are maintaining their traditional ways. I feel privileged to have learned even a little bit.
My only critique is that I wish that I knew that it was an hour+ drive from Cuzco. It would not have impacted my desire to take the class, it just would have been nice to know in advance. The driver arrived precisely on time and was very professional. So Edwin and his family did make it very easy. Oh, and lunch was delicious too!

THIS IS THE BEST THING I DID IN CUSCO!!!! I was in Cusco for 5 days and this was by far the highlight. I saw all the 5 star reviews for this workshop so I was very excited for this day but I still didn’t know what to expect. Now after I have done the experience this was probably one of the top 5 best days of my life. Everything was seamless and beautifully curated. It was amazing to have an entire day where I didn’t have to make any logistical decisions or worry about food, transportation, etc. Edwin and his father led me through their deep cultural and historical weaving process as well as spent a lot of time educating me on their community. The way they curated everything made me feel comfortable and at ease. Sometimes I get really frustrated with big crowds and a lot of tourism so if you’re looking for an experience of a lifetime and want to get off the beaten path, I can not recommend this enough!!

We cannot recommend this experience highly enough. By far the best thing we did of our 3 weeks in Peru!!
We were picked up from our hotel and driven to the location, Greeted with beautiful flower petals. Edwin (whose family are all master weavers) translated the entire day. We were guided through each step in an interactive and engaging way from spinning the yarn, to going out to pick the natural ingredients for dyeing the wool, the dyeing process, setting up the loom to the actual physical weaving. It was a fantastic day and we both came away with a new appreciation for the art.
In between parts we were presented with a delicious lunch. The ladies who taught us were patient and lovely. We came away with bracelets we (with some help) had woven and wool we had naturally dyed. If you can, I would 1000% recommend to book this experience - you really won't regret it.

We had a wonderful day. It was a really hands on experience, spinning wool, foraging for natural dyes, preparing wool for dying, preparing dyes, dying wool, winding the wool into balls and weaving headbands. The entire time, we had excellent guidance and explanation.
On top of this we had a delicious snack and lunch. At lunch everyone was very friendly and interested in us and where we come from.
In the end we went home with two beautiful woven headbands, 4 balls of wool that we dyed ourselves and a few items from the shop.
I would recommend this experience to anyone in the area, it was fantastic.

What an amazing experience with the Pimentel family! From beginning to end we really enjoyed the cultural tour and spending the day learning the traditional weaving practice.

Wow, this was an incredibly special day and I am so grateful to Edwin & Ruth for sharing their home and culture with me! I loved every aspect of this from the warm welcome I received to walking in the forest and collecting leaves, the natural dyeing of the wool and finally learning how to use a back strap loom. I also was enamoured with the delicious food they prepared - pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, avocado, yucca - all from the yard! I can't recommend this highly enough, especially if you have an interest in textiles, this will be a day you will never forget!

Absolute must do excursion if you want to experience traditional Peruvian culture! This tour is run by a local family with generations of experience weaving textiles. They made us feel so welcome and shared their home and culture with us. The weaving process does take place on the floor, so be prepared to sit for a few hours. The artisans showed us how to weave a bracelet and then took it home. I would highly recommend to anyone who wants to immerse themselves in the native culture for a day.
