A MUST DO! This was the BEST excursion we did during our week in Cusco! It was such an incredibly unique, fun, and special experience I'll remember forever. The homemade lunch was delicious with jaw dropping views of the beautiful mountain landscape, learning how to dye wool from flowers picked right from the garden was such an incredible experience. We also loved our 15 minutes walk with two very sweet llamas and a baby llama. I had never weaved, sewed, or anything, and the lesson was incredible and the ladies were so kind and helpful. I would highly recommend booking this tour!
We also had the best time doing an add on and visiting Maras and Moray (two very cool, must-see historic sites nearby) with their trusted partner and guide Lito, he was an incredible tour guide, a great photographer:) , and we learned so much about the two historic sites from him!
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Thank you so much for this incredible review
It truly means the world to us to know that this was the BEST experience of your trip to Cusco. We are so happy you enjoyed every moment — from the homemade lunch with breathtaking mountain views to the hands-on textile process using natural dyes from flowers picked right from our garden.
It’s especially meaningful to hear that, even without prior experience, you were able to weave and create your own piece. Our artisan ladies will be so happy to know you felt supported and inspired throughout the experience.
We’re also glad you loved your walk with our llamas (and the baby!). They are a very special part of our family.
And thank you for trusting our recommendation to visit Maras and Moray. Lito will be delighted to know he helped make your journey even more memorable — he truly loves sharing the history and beauty of these incredible sites.
We would love to welcome you again in the future for more unforgettable moments in the Andes.

A great day visit to experience the full process of how the wonderful textiles are made.
We arrived and got to feed both the llamas and alpacas before sitting down for a lovely lunch with our hosts with incredible views.
Then we started the experience where we learned how the wool is washed, dyed and spun all with natural ingredients found around the area. We then got to take some llamas for a walk (loved Thomas and Rose) before heading back to weave our own bracelets.
A lovely relaxing experience and would highly recommend visiting

Thank you so much for your beautiful words!
We’re truly happy to know that you enjoyed every part of the experience — from feeding our llamas and alpacas to sharing a meal with us surrounded by the Andes. It means a lot to us that you connected with the full textile process, especially using natural and ancestral techniques.
Thomas and Rose will definitely miss you too!
It was a pleasure to have you with us, and we hope to welcome you again in the future for another unforgettable experience.

10/10!! Of everything we did in Peru, this was my absolute favorite. I enjoyed this activity more than Machu Picchu, Sacred Valley, Moray, and all the other typical main attractions. Miguel and Paulita at Andean Colors were absolutely amazing (driver Juan Carlos was also great). If you’ll be staying in or around Cusco, you MUST make time to do this!
Fantastic lunch, interaction with alpacas llamas goats, stunning views, and full experience of traditional weaving process. Unlike other weaving tours, we actually got to do every single step, and even got to keep the yarn and bracelets we created! Learned so much along the way, since they knew every step of the process in and out.
I wish I hadn’t bought ponchos/capes, hats, gloves, etc in Cusco’s main plaza before this tour, because those items were double the price for half the quality compared to the items at Andean Colors. Plus, it feels better shopping here knowing the proceeds are sustaining a group dedicated to organic, authentic, humane weaving, while simultaneously providing a safe space & income for women.
The activity was well-paced. I’d recommend doing this on your first full day in Cusco, so that you can adjust to the altitude with this calm activity before going hiking.
My friend and I had multiple dietary restrictions (gluten free, no shellfish, no red meat, etc) and Miguel did a great job of taking the initiative to reach out first to inquire about restrictions. He cooked up a fantastic meal! Bonus - they take credit card and have a bathroom.
This activity also is great for anyone who doesn’t speak spanish. My friend and I spoke very minimal spanish, and had no problems at all, especially since Miguel spoke fluent English and spanish.
Other tour companies for other activities we did weren’t really good at communicating ahead of time (eg planing transit, logistics, answering agenda questions) but Andean Colors was the opposite. Miguel reached out to us moments after we booked and was super responsive. Really easy to book transportation through him.

A beautiful experience learning about cleaning, dying and threading wool. What stood out the most was the stunning views of the countryside and the kind hearted Paulita! It was just me there and no other tourists so I felt personally taken care of. Paulita was patient and warm as she taught me the process of creating textiles. I got to walk a curious alpaca Tomas and had a nice lunch at the end. Miguel was kind enough to arrange a taxi. It was 80US for the hour drive round trip.
Response from Host, Dec 2025

We’re also happy that Miguel was able to assist you with arranging transportation so your visit was comfortable from beginning to end.
Thank you again for supporting Andean Colors and for appreciating our mission and traditions.
We hope to welcome you back one day in the Sacred Valley!

First of all ...5 stars is not enough to give this experience. I went into this booking with low expectations, but hopeful. I was expecting something that nice but minimal. I am very happy to say - that is not what we experienced. From the second we arrived, we were transported into a different world. Our guide, Miguel was amazing. We were busy engaging in hands on experiences immediately - from visiting with and feeding the llamas and baby goats to creating our own woven bracelets. The day was full of history, science, color, textures, and culture -all while looking out at the beautiful mountains and listening to the sheep in the pasture below. We weren't just told how the wool was dyed, we actually took part in the dying process. We washed the wool, learned the art of spinning and then patiently guided as we learned to weave the same way people have been doing for generations in this region. After a full experience, we were taken inside for a warm and delicious meal. Our guide, Miguel, sat with us and shared the table while we learned more about the area. I never felt like a tourist - but instead felt like we were being immersed and learning a true craft.
Every once in a while, you experience something when traveling that makes it to your Top 10 list. This was one of those experiences for us. If I return to Cusco again, I will definitely be visiting this place.

Warm greetings from all of us at Andean Colors. #ExperienceAKaleidoscopeOfPeruvianCulture

We arranged transport with the tourguide beforehand and extended our tour by adding Maras and Moray - well worth it if you have the time but it is a long way to go (1.5hrs+). The driver was friendly and drove very safely.
The workshop itself was a weird and wonderful explanation of the process from animal fibre to finished product, and afterwards we felt we appreciated the manual process of this so much more. The guides were patient, friendly and helpful. We particularly enjoyed walking with the llamas. Lunch was a lovely soup and a basic main, definitely nice but not as spectacular as other reviews had made out.
Response from Host, Oct 2025
Thank you very much for sharing your experience!
We’re so happy to know you enjoyed the full day, from the safe and comfortable trip to exploring Maras and Moray, and especially your time with our llamas and at the textile workshop.

Your visit helps us continue empowering women and preserving the ancestral textile traditions of the Andes.

I had an unforgettable time at the traditional textile workshop with Andean Colors. From the start, communication with the host was smooth and welcoming. Marcos, Polita and Miguel and other staff met us with amazing warmth. The workshop itself was incredibly informative and hands-on—we learned about ancient weaving techniques, natural dyes, and the cultural roots of Andean textiles. There was so much to do, and everything was explained with great care and passion. And we loved being able to do the activities in traditional ponchos!!
Lunch was absolutely delicious, and the setting made the entire experience feel warm and authentic. There’s also a beautiful shop on-site where you can purchase handmade products that directly support single mothers from Cusco’s communities, which made every purchase more meaningful.
The llamas and alpacas were friendly and adorable, making for great photo moments and even better memories. This was easily one of the best cultural activities I’ve done in Peru.
Highly recommended to anyone visiting the Cusco area. 10/10 – would absolutely recommend

I cannot recommend this workshop highly enough. We had an authentic, truly delightful experience in the midst of the Andes. We treated then walked the alpaca and llama. We learned about and had hands-on experience of cleaning and dying the wool, spinning the fibers and then weaving the yarn to create our own bracelets. Marco and Paolina are so sweet and patient. We had them provide our transportation which worked out perfectly. Lunch tasted like home - if home is in this amazing place!

Myself and my mother had the pleasure of joining Marco and his wonderful team on our first day in Peru. It was an absolutely wonderful welcome into the country. The environment was absolutely stunning and we learned so much in the interactive portion dealing with the textiles and dyeing. The message behind what Andean colors is trying to do for the women of Peru is also amazing.
Plus we got to feed alpacas and llamas! Highly recommend this experience to anyone.

Just book it!! One of the coolest most interesting experiences. We did it with our kids (9 year old twins) and we all loved it. We learned so much and really got to appreciate the skills that go into natural dying, making yarn and weaving in the most beautiful setting. It’s one of those experiences that I know we will be talking about for years to come. Both the adults and kids absolutely loved it!!!
Response from Host, Apr 2025

We had the best time at Andean Colors, Marco and Paola were so sweet and helpful. We had to reschedule our activity (altitude sickness) and they were very understanding an accommodating. We scheduled transportation through Marco which I highly recommend, it cost us $80US round trip from our Cusco Hotel.
We learned so much, had a lot of fun, the food was delicious, and we got to see a baby alpaca being born! We would absolutely recommend this activity to anyone visiting the Sacred Valley.
Response from Host, Jan 2025

It was a pleasure hosting you, and we hope to welcome you back someday! Safe travels

Wow! This was an amazing experience! We received far more than we were expecting! We began the experience by feeding and walking the alpacas. Even my husband could not resist falling in love with these little cuties. Next we did hands on demonstrations on how to clean, spin, dye and weave. It was so fun that the time flew by quickly. Next we ate the best lunch we had on our entire trip! Our hosts shared so much about their culture and their program.
If that was not enough, we ended out day with a little private shopping experience:). This is a program you should not miss:)
Response from Host, Jan 2025

This is a truly wonderful experience where you are integrated and learn from the experts when it comes to textile making. I felt welcomed with the wonderful homemade lunch and truly learned SO much about the ancient technique, care and love that goes into making alpaca threads. The team is very friendly, accommodating and welcoming while willing to explain the process, resources use and impact on the environment. This is a unique alternative to hiking in the area (even though there is a short hike at the beginning) and a way to truly learn about Peruvian artisanal work and skills. I would highly recommend this for the whole family. Even my husband who isn't really into crafts enjoyed it!
Response from Host, Nov 2024
Thank you so much for your kind and detailed review! We are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the experience and felt welcomed during your visit. Sharing our passion for textile making and ancient techniques with visitors like you is what inspires us every day. It’s wonderful to know you appreciated not only the process but also the care and love we put into each step.
We’re glad your husband also found it enjoyable—it’s always a pleasure to surprise guests who might not think of themselves as "craft enthusiasts." We hope you took away beautiful memories and perhaps a deeper appreciation for Peruvian artisanal traditions.
Thank you again for recommending us! If you’re ever back in the area, we’d love to welcome you again.

We had a group of three for the experience! Marco and the team of helpers created such an amazing day learning all about the making of alpaca yarn- the spinning, creating the dyes, dying the yarn and then ultimately weaving our own piece to keep. We weee sble to feed and walk the Alpacas on the beautiful property and then we were treated to an amazing lunch! Definitely add this experience to your plans!

Really amazing experience. We got to meet the animals, walk to an overlook above the sacred valley, and pick some plants to make the dye. We learned a lot of techniques for dying and weaving, and got to bring home the fruits of our labor. Lunch was also delicious and the views were amazing.

A wonderful experience! The Andean Colors textile workshop was beyond what I expected and truly special. 10/10 recommendation. Marco and the team were very communicative and helpful with transportation options (we took public transport). Once we arrive, the tour started with seeing the space and then walking with the llamas to gather our dying material. From there we learned to dye, clean wool, spin and weave. A very comprehensive experience. The food served was delicious. The area is breathtaking and a welcome change from the city of Cusco.
Response from Host, Jun 2024
Andrea, thank you for the recommendation you make to Andean Colors and that you have had an excellent experience and have been able to learn about the textile process.
jennifer_s, Mar 2024
This was absolutely the best thing I did on my 9 day trip to Peru. I booked transportation through the vendor and didn't have to think about anything but showing up on time. I was welcomed with a family lunch, then we toured the farm, and I took a llama/alpaca for a walk to get leaves to use for dye. I learned to clean the wool, to spin it into yarn using only my hands and a top type object, then learned all of the different ways they use natural items to create a variety of colors of yarn. When I learned that pinks came from a cactus my brain exploded. I was taught to weave...difficult! And was given my 3 yarns that I dyed as well as the weaving I did. It was such an incredible and authentic experience. I cannot recommend this enough! Plus, this is an organization that is giving back to single artisan mothers.
Response from Host, Mar 2024
Jennifer, thank you for your comment, it was a pleasure to be able to teach you about the textile process and learn how to knit. We hope that you continue doing what you were knitting in your home.
Denise_M, Feb 2024
If you want an authentic hands-on experience dealing with textiles, this is THE tour to book. My husband and friends wanted to do the zip lines so I did this on my own. They helped to arrange transportation from Cusco and I felt very comfortable and safe. It was an hour drive. We picked leaves and used them to dye the yarn a green color, we used dried moss to dye the yarn a yellow color and we used dried dead bugs from a cactus to dye the yarn a purple color. It was a lengthy process, but I got to participate in ALL of it. And they gave me the yarn I dyed to take home. So unexpected and greatly appreciated. They also taught me how to spin the wool from the alpaca by hand. No spinning wheel or other mechanism, just your hands spinning a "tool" that looks like a top with a stick on it. I was also taught how to make a bracelet. They served a yummy lunch of chicken, potatoes, carrots and rice. They were all friendly and welcoming and the instructor was kind and patient and took his time with each step in the process. You see all the amazingly beautiful textiles in Cusco and to be a part of that was invaluable. This was THE best thing I booked while in Cusco.
Response from Host, Feb 2024
Thank you Denise for visiting us from Cusco, we hope that the services we have provided you have been adequate and that you have learned from the textile art that we make, and above all the support you have given to our project of single artisan mothers.

The experience perfectly combines learning new textile knowledge with real contact with nature. The class, very lovingly guided by Paulina, was informative and enriching. His passion and dedication are reflected in every detail.
In addition, the lunch prepared by Miguel was delicious and the perfect complement to a complete experience.
Participating in this experience was not only a gift to me, but also a way to support a great cause behind Andean Colors. An unforgettable experience!
