The train ride up to Macho Picho was breath taking. Loved it! The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and friendly, was well as a great photo taker. Macho Picho was impressive and interesting. The tour operator did an outstanding job changing tour itinerary because my tour was delayed a day due to Peru Airport shut down for a day. The tour operator also did a great job preparing the tour and explaining how it was to be executed. This tour was a great experience.

Amazing Tour!!!

We couldn’t have been happier with this tour. The day started at 9:00 with a private car from Cusco to Ollantaytambo (2 hours) to pick up the train to Aguas Calientes (1 hour 45 minutes). Our driver Edgar, was really knowledgeable about the landmarks along the way and would stop anywhere to take pictures or take in the scenery…which was breathtaking! Luck for us, he was also our driver on the return trip! We boarded the train to Machu Picchu (the only way you can get there) and then the bus to the ruins where we met our guide Mario. Mario has been a tour guide at Machu Picchu for 30 years and provided remarkable insight and offered a ton of information about the history and significance of the site, as well as details about the structure itself, building materials, and the people that lived there. Really, anything you’d want to know about Machu Picchu…we were very impressed. The site itself is just magnificent. Coupling that experience with Mario’s perspective, made the tour just perfect.This tour is a full day, more than half of which is travel. Before we booked, we decided to stay the night in Aquas Calientes. Might be worth your consideration in the event you’d like to go back to the site for another look or to just break up the day. The tour company was easy to work and made sure that the train tickets were coordinated with our overnight stay.We booked several private tours for this trip (through Viator) and cannot recommend it enough. The personal attention and flexibility are worth the additional cost! Amazing!
