Even during rainy season,...

Even during rainy season, I would recommend making the trip. The lines were short and the clouds blocked some of the intense sunshine. We met in person the night before the trip to confirm details and answer questions. Transfers from the hotel entrance to Machu Picchu and back were smooth. Our guide in Machu Picchu shared oodles of information while recommending photo spots and taking pics. A light rain fell for less than 30 minutes, it was a wonderful trip.

A great way to see Machu Pichu!

It was a great trip. Machu Pichu was everything we hoped for and more. It truly is an amazing place. VIP Perú tour was excellent. They came to the hotel the night before to deliver tickets. They did spring on us at that time that we would be picked up at 0530 rather than 0630, which was disappointing in that the later pickup was the reason we picked VIP despite their higher cost. However, it was necessary to meet the schedule - long day from 0530 to 2100. They picked us up in a nice private van and drove us ~90 minutes to train station, arriving 20 minutes before boarding time. Van ride was rough - giant extreme potholes, rock slides blocking lanes, etc. Slow going but not unsafe or anything that they could control (we did have to stop for gas, which seems like could have been better planned, but no big deal). Train station was nice, and Vistadome cars were great - very scenic ride. Our group of 4 was reserved a ‘booth’ with 2 seats on each side of a table facing each other. It was very good. We met our guide at the Machu Pichu train station (Will - same guy who dropped off the tix at hotel), and we queued-up for the bus to the top based on your assigned entrance time (we were 11 AM). You can check a bag for 5 soles at the entrance, which was nice - weather changed from cold in the AM to beautifully warm and sunny by 11, so we checked jackets and all that. We did Circuit 2, and Will proved to be an amazing resource, as well as a kind and funny guy. He should write a book - maybe he has. He knows everything. After about 2.75 hrs, we headed back down on the buses. You just get in line, and the buses run continuously. We ate dinner with Will at a spot overlooking the river, and then headed to the train, the van, and back home. It was great - highly recommended. Ask for Will!

It was an excellent visit. Starting with a private pick up followed by a vistadome train ride with magnificent vistas. The actual site visit was with a knowledgeable guide at my own pace. No regrets

VIP trip is a scam . $455 for this trip is too expensive. Try to book the trip which is for $350. There was so special treatment for VIP.
