Very good experience just a little mix up with my ticket being set for 6:30am entrance but the earliest the train can get me into Machu Picchu was 8am but the guide knew the people at the entrance and we just signed a late slip that let us in after my entrance time had passed. This could have been luck because I went on father's day when it was a little emptier so just make sure to double check the timing of everything. Other than that good tour.

I enjoyed this tour. Machu Picchu is such a stunning, beautiful place. Overall, a great experience. My only issue with this tour is that it can be quite a challenge to ensure your entrance ticket to the Machu Picchu site. There is no guarantee you will get it until last minute, and I had to do a lot of work to verify with local tour company that I would. There is a lot of miscommunications between Viator and local tour company, so please beware, as Viator does NOT reimburse your money if you cancel. Do your part and make sure to speak to local guide and assure that they can confirm your ticket. It was quite nerve racking. The Viator personnel doesn't guarantee much and you might need to escalate to higher management for some real help.

Travel light.
Lots of walking up and down in Machu Picchu.
Need to stay physically fit and prepare for altitude sickness before going.
Drink a lot of water. A pair of good walking shoes are definitely needed.

I book a date on viator that said it was available on September 30,2025. I was sent a conformation and email for my tour on September 30, 2025. To my dismay I was informed the date was not available and I would have to go to travel to a different city and stay the night in order to get a ticket for Machu pichu on October 1. I went to Agua Calientes to pick up my ticket which I paid for on the site but was informed by the company that it was not paid for and I would have to pay out of pocket again the by company. I had to come out of pocket to pay for that and I informed the company I got a ticket for September 30, 2025 (which they said was not available) The company immediately asked for confirmation of the ticket so they could reimburse me for Machu pichu ticket, the guide, and the bus fare since they were unable to provide me these services. I provided the proof of ticket promptly and thw company first informed me they would refund me that share because I had to purchase tickets my self which should have been taken care of in advance and I had already by $350. They the. went back on their word and only reimbursed me $100, claiming that I didn’t notify them in time and I have proof via WhatsApp messages that I did in fact tell them I would no longer need their services since they failed to book my tour and I had to go offices personally to do everything in person. They then disrespectful deleted messages reconfirming my reimbursement

The site and view were amazing. Unfortunately, the company/guide pressured me into paying an extra $30 for an earlier return from Aguas Calientes. I had not been made aware that the tour was scheduled for the next day, and some of the tickets were only purchased late in the evening beforehand.
The return time was also not clearly communicated, which left me very disappointed. Because of this, I was unable to visit the hot springs or properly explore Aguas Calientes.

I admit that I was anxious at the outset due to the number of different steps, modes of transport and entities that had to come together to make this trip work. But Michael (tour operator), Eric (lead guide) and Darcey (personal guide) all knew their parts and played them to perfection. Incredible experience!! Be ready for a Looong day if you’re starting in Cusco, but it is well worth the time. Our tour coordinator Michael was extremely helpful and met with us to go over the whole process of taking a car to the train to the bus. Once there, Machu Picchu exceeds expectations, awe inspiring scenery and incredible history.

We did the 2 day Machu Picchu, where we went to Aguas Calientes the day prior to purchase tickets. We were one of the first off our train early that morning to secure the best (2A) tickets for the following afternoon. The unknown nature of the process was worrisome but Michael and his staff were very helpful and reassuring and made sure everything worked out perfectly for us!

Let me explain some parts that aren't clear for first time travelers in Cusco going to Machu Picchu *with this particular package.*
The tour company reaches you ahead via Whatsapp, to send your train and tour tickets digitally. They won't yet have your bus tickets. This is because they first need photos of your passport over Whatsapp to prove you're not Peruvian citizens when buying the bus tickets (Peru citizens pay a high tax on those tickets). I know that's scary, but it was ok and the tour company is reputable.
The tour company sends a separate business/car to pick you up from your hotel (along with other nearby hotel pickups) at 4 am. They called us 5 min early to let us know they were arriving. It's a 1 hr 40 min ride to the train station.
At train station, show passport and train ticket to board. You'll only have about 15 minutes after arriving until train boarding starts. Station has bathrooms, shops and coffee.
Train ride is also 1 hr 40 min. Has bathrooms, coffee/tea/snacks you can buy, and small play is performed on board!
Train ends at Aguas Calientes, a small modern city with lots of shopping/eating. Immediately leave station (bathrooms at station, btw) and we had a tour person holding a sign with our names. She walked us to our bus line. Showed tickets and passports. Important: she took our picture to send to your guide.
25 min bus ride up the mountain, and you're at Machu Picchu entrance. Very packed, but purntournguide found us (he had our picture) and walked us in as we showed passports and tour tickets to security.
Our tour guide was Eder, he was tremendous. Helped with photos, taught us history, taught each building function, etc. I feel bad because we tipped him 100 Soles, earned later that it's expected to give 150 Soles for 2 people on private tours. Eat lunch in city before train departure.
All reversed to go back. Only negative was car/bus *after* the train did not go all the way to hotel, instead to City center. Walked about 1 mile to hotel.

Honestly the only enjoyable part about this was the actual visit to Machu Pichuu and I’m only making it a two star because of our tour guide at Machu Pichuu Paul who was extremely knowledgeable and informative during the tour. The remaining process to book this tour and everything is very misleading. First they don’t tell you that you have to basically start this the day prior and although before the trip is confirmed this was explained before you go to Peru the logistics on ground are completely different than what was explained. Firstly there was a lot of miscommunication as far as us being told what we needed to do the night prior or something and then having to ask for the phone numbers of the people we were supposed to meet on the way to help facilitate everything. The reason you pay a tour operator is so they can take care of the logistics and make it smooth this was anything but smooth. I could have easily booked all this myself and probably should have as it is very easy to book all the transports to Machu Pichuu without going through a third party you just have to do some research but plenty of people we met at Machu Pichuu did the entire thing by themselves. Again communication was very poor as Micheal was in contact with us but was not very forthcoming with details until we asked and it did not feel like a smooth process at all.
Our main contact, Michael, wasn’t proactive and only gave us details when we asked. The itinerary was also inaccurate: there was no return transport to our hotel you have to find your way back home at 12:30am and we had to pay $81 for Machu Picchu tickets ourselves (refunded via PayPal, but only $77.50 after fees). We also never received the bottled water that was supposed to be included.
Overall, poor communication and a lack of coordination made this feel like a DIY trip with a middleman and not a professional tour.
