Overview

If you're interested in scuba diving but still not sure whether it's for you, this introductory three-hour scuba course will give you a taste and help you decide. Your PADI-certified instructor will introduce you to the gear and begin with a theory course. Then, practice in shallow water, followed by a deeper dive for up to 40 minutes. This is a fun way to learn new skills.

We had an amazing time on our discovery SCUBA dive. Lucas, our instructor, was an excellent teacher and explained all the concepts we needed clearly, taking care to make sure we understood along the way. Once on the dive, we felt like we were diving with a friend as he allowed us reasonable freedom to explore. We especially appreciated his attention to the wildlife - he pointed out several interesting fish and other critters. We’re looking into our PADI cert when we get home!

Doctor Dive and their instructors were the best start to scuba! Snorkeling does not match the intensity and immersion of scuba. The highlight was being able to swim by living coral reef and fish close to 40ft below the surface! Cesar was also very helpful throughout the entire process. He gave clear and direct instructions. Throughout the scuba portion he helped tremendously with my buoyancy issues and provided a steady arm to assist with swimming. I literally could not have done it without him.

I am very very happy with Lucia and Antonio from Doctor Dive. They are so patient and thorough. Even though we are certified, they still make sure to go through set by set, important things unlike my previous experience with other places. They made sure we are comfortable and checked on us each time we go down. Highly recommended to those who wants to try scuba diving in Costa Maya. We just walked out to take a taxi, per person was $5 to beach area.

First time doing any kind of scuba dive and this was a wonderful experience! Lucas at Doctor Dive was our guide and he was so patient and thorough. I had a lovely time exploring the reefs of Mahahual. If you are coming from a cruise ship at the port of Costa Maya, it’s a quick cheap taxi ride from just outside the port to the Malecon downtown area, and then a couple blocks’ walk to Yaya Beach where Doctor Dive is located. I was very glad we opted for this excursion instead of a beach club because the smell of the sargassum was overpowering, and our time in port wasn’t long enough for most other excursions in the area.

We got our own taxi to the dive shop. The port terminal was a zoo, and it took at least 20 minutes from the gangway to the taxi stand. Pointing this out so you allow enough time to accommodate the long, winding walk to the taxi stand. Tony was our dive instructor, and he was amazing. It was my first diving experience, and he made me feel very comfortable. My partner was an experienced diver, so he helped me more and dove along with us so that we were both comfortable and confident. Our gear was in good condition. He pointed out fish and ocean life for us. It was a great experience! I would have enjoyed a locker at the dive shop for my gear while I was on the dive. Would recommend this!

Amazing Experience I will never forget. This Dive made my vacation. I love snorkeling but always found myself wanting to see more, go deeper and stay longer. Enter Doctor Dive. Antonio and Nico were amazing. I felt comfortably confident I was in good hands the entire time. My first Scuba dive ever now (not last). Diving off the Costa Maya Coast of Mexico over the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef (Worlds 2nd largest) with my brother and friend. It doesn’t get any better for a bucket list experience. Full disclosure I took a discovery class at home in the States before taking this excursion. In hindsight It mentally made me more prepared (removed jitters) but was unnecessary as Doctor Dive crew was everything you need. If you have a dream to see this beautiful place up close don’t miss this experience. You will see the ocean differently for the rest of your life. 10-Stars!😎

This was amazing. I went with two of my closest friends/ relatives. However I got a horrible leg cramp and it wouldn’t go away I believe I was dehydrated my fault completely so I didn’t want to go all the down even though they made me few completely safe the whole time I just didn’t feel it be smart to continue so went back to the boat with my dive instructor he helped me the whole time . I really appreciate them so much ! My friends had a great time and got the pictures and videos to prove it ! I highly recommend this especially if you’ve never done this before and I look forward to coming back and completing this next year but I will prepare myself better next time . Thank you so very much!!

Easy to get to shop via taxi. The crew was awesome and professional. My family has decided we all want to get certified to scuba. This was by far our favorite excursion and we definitely recommend Dr. Dive for anyone else wanting to try diving. Safe and thorough instructions.

You start off with a quick lesson on diving, in shallow beach water. They make you clear the mask and find the regulator as if it were pulled out of your mouth. Afterwards you go on a quick boat ride and do about a 45min dive. They were very professional. About 1 diver master for every 2 people.

Cesar, who was paired with us and all the staff were great. Went from no scuba knowledge to feeling comfortable 35 feet down. We were never alone below the surface. Saw beautiful fish and Cesar pointed out some amazing creatures crawling and hiding on the ocean floor. They were even kind enough to go back and look for my phone that I lost somewhere on the dive. Thank you all!

Excellent first time dive experience. Our instructor, Antonio, was fun, and engaging, but most importantly kept us feeling completely safe and educated the whole time. Everything was included - instruction, equipment, shallow after practice, and an hour dive experience at a 40ft depth reef slightly offshore. As first time divers we absolutely loved it and had a great afternoon. Highly recommend Dr. Dive - these guys are the real deal.

No problems here except you have to be ready to arrange your own transportation by cab once you get off of the ship, however, the cost is nominal. The dive staff is very professional and as a beginner it feels like the closest thing to flying while breathing underwater for 45 minutes. I highly recommend as all of my children including myself thoroughly the entire experience.
