This was an excellent excursion for our big family (2 adults 4 kids ranging from 8-16). We travelled in a nice van with a fantastic guide and we arrived at the lagoon and boarded a well maintained boat driven by a boat captain who drive us all around the lagoon. Our guide was with us and she explained so many interesting facts and information! We had two swimming stops in the gorgeous blue water. We wore life jackets while on the boat but swam without them. After the lagoon we were taken to a local taco shop and had a delicious lunch off the beaten path, which was a highlight. The entire team was so kind, hospitable, made sure we were comfortable and having a great time. The tour communicated well ahead of time. It was a really amazing experience. If you’re willing to spend a little time driving to the lagoon, this excursion is so worth it! One of the most gorgeous places on the planet, led by a fantastic group of local people.

The meeting place was quite a distance from the port. The van had ac and took an hour to get to the lagoons. The lagoons were amazingly beautiful! The water was shallow and the temperature was nice. There weren’t really any fish, so no snorkeling. We had a short drive to get tacos, they were okay.

The water will amaze you! Absolutely beautiful and so worth the money and time! It’s about 1.5 hrs drive to and from the port. Make sure you take reef safe sunscreen

Well organized, guide very friendly, informative, comfortable van transportation, beautiful boat ride. Enjoyed the fresh pineapple and mango on the boat. We were offered many beverages throughout the trip, water, coke, beer, tequila, and cucumber lemon juice. We enjoyed the restaurant meal. Arrived back to the port on time. I highly recommend this excursion.

7 color lagoon is beautiful and I’m so glad we got to see it. It reminded me of the water in taihiti, which is saying a lot. It’s just unbelievably clear. Even though it was chilly when we were there, I still got in! Had to say I made it in that water! Our tour person (iris) was also wonderful, friendly, warm and fun. Our lunch at Mr Taco was pretty amazing - really delicious and a unique place we wouldn’t have found otherwise.
All in all… the tour was great.
However, I probably won’t book through Viator again. This happened to us in taihiti as well… we should’ve learned. The info that you receive once you’re booked isn’t correct. You have to do all your corresponding through email and it just caused a lot of unneeded stress.
First, the email said everyone meets within 50 min from being allowed off the boat - giving you time for a “leisurely morning”. And someone would be at the port with a sign with our name.
Second - it says the meeting point is just meters from the port.
I received an email via What’s App saying they would wait 20 minutes from the time the first person came from the boat. This text came before our gangway was even open. So we skipped breakfast with friends and headed out with the crowd. No one was at the port with a sign with our name, so we just kept walking based on the little map that came with our info. The walk was a good 20 minutes. I have no issue walking, but we had not accounted for that time. When I texted through what’s app to find out where our meet up was … after walking through the port area…they then said it was “a good 15-20 minute walk from pier”. I brought my emails to show that this was not what was sent to me.
When we arrived, we were the last people and the tour guide was frantically looking for us. Here, everyone else in the van was from another ship that docked 1/2 hr before ours did. We were literally minutes from being left behind.
So it started stressful. Then you’re in a crowded van (all 11 seats taken) for the 90 min ride. And no one is from your ship. And they are kinda aggravated that they had to wait for you. So it’s a little uncomfortable.
We are friendly people and it all worked out in the end. We even really enjoyed the group that was all together on this excursion (from Europe) but it could’ve gone very differently.
And I’m sooooo thankful that our friends who were with us on the cruise didn’t go for this excursion. With knee problems and mobility issues, there’s no way they could’ve made that walk.
This is now the 3rd time we booked through Viator and had some sort of communication issue. I think that’s enough.

Our excursion was on a Wednesday and I didn't know prior that Wednesdays are "no navigation" days on Roatan. But nevertheless it wasn't an issue at all. The company provided us with a van that drove us to all our stops. Xiomara was our guide and she was fabulous. Beautiful water at the first lagoon. And the second cenote (cenote azul) was actually a bit warmer than the first. Drinks were in the van for us to have anytime. Lunch was authentic tacos in a beautiful location. I am including pictures so you can see what a great time me and my family had.

The lagoon is beautiful. However, the company that runs this tour makes decisions that are not ethical. We arrived at 8:45 as instructed but sat around waiting for 1.5 hours because another group was not contacted with instructions on when to arrive. Then it was decided by the company that we would leave but drive slow so the other group could catchup with us. Our time on the tour was wasted. We didn’t see everything and did not receive a lunch. I’ve contacted the company and asked for a partial refund. I haven’t received a reply. Thier plan was unacceptable. All they cared about was making additional money. We deserved better treatment.

We love Bacalar lagoon! It was beautiful! Our guide Selina was amazing & our driver Richard did a wonderful job getting us to & from Bacalar! We also ate authentic Mexican food at a small restaurant in Bacalar! We would definitely do it again!

Do not book this excursion on a Wednesday. The officials do not allow vessels on the lagoon every Wednesday and although the company let me book the trip, they called the day before to cancel, offering me a trip to the ruins with partial refund or a full refund. I took the full refund.
Locals in Costa Maya confirmed the no watercraft on the lagoon every Wednesday.
The representative from the company tried his best to reach me starting on Noon on Tuesday and I could not be reached until O bought the cruise WiFi package late on Tuesday. He was pleasant to speak with, apologized for the cancellation and did not hesitate to offer the refund. He did make it sound that the lagoon closure was unexpected and that did not seem to be the case.

We came into port on a cruise and were nervous about booking a tour outside of the cruise line, but we didn't have anything to worry about. This tour is a MUST. It was about a 45 min drive from the port of Costa Maya. They met us outside the main security gate. Once we got to the boat, we cruised on the lagoon and saw different sections of the lagoon. We got out a couple of times to swim, and it was so clean and pure with no trash and a complete view of the lagoon bottom floor. Pineapple is also very popular in this area and you'll see them sold along the roadside, but they had a pineapple for us, cut it up and put it on a raft and we ate fresh pineapple in the water. That was a special treat. This group was professional, focused on safety, and were very informative. We learned about the history of the area as well as the history of the lagoon and what locals are doing to keep the lagoon as pristine as possible. After the boat ride, we enjoyed an authentic mexican taco meal. Their hospitality was fantastic!

We did this tour as an excursion from a cruise ship. Isis was our tour guide and Julio was our driver. Isis was absolutely the best! We were late to the excursion (our fault) and she was able to modify our tour easily. We also loved swimming so we stayed longer. She asked Julio to stop at this fruit stand and we had the most amazing mangos!
Isis was so organized, friendly, and knowledgeable. She preordered our lunch so it was ready right when we got off the boat. Julio talked to our front seat passenger. We had the most fun. There were 13 of us on this tour, including grandparents and six year old twins. We just laughed and laughed and had so many memorable moments. The lagoon is spectacular, and the boat ride was smooth. We will be booking with Isis again, for sure! Thank you, Isis!
