This was literally a hidden gem of an experience. Be prepared for lots of steps getting to the destination (wear comfortable shoes) but once you arrive it’s well worth it. Barbara (instructor) and her husband Stefano (assistant) were the most gracious hosts and welcomed us into their home for a 4+ hour cooking extravaganza.
We learned to make pesto, gnocchi, and tiramisu then enjoyed the fruits of our labor paired with white wine from Riomaggiore.
Thank you Barbara & Stefano for your generous hospitality and for helping us have such a memorable experience!

We had an absolutely marvelous cooking class. It was the last night of our family vacation and such a perfect end. My entire family came home eager to make pasta and replicate the recipes. Guilia was a patient and gracious teacher and made everything look easy. We highly recommend this experience and plan to take more cooking classes on future trips.

Our cooking class with Barbara was an absolute highlight of our trip! She welcomed us like family and taught us how to make fresh pasta and the most delicious tiramisu. The class was fun, hands-on, and full of laughter. If you want a truly authentic experience in Riomaggiore, don’t miss this! 🇮🇹🍝🍰

Knowledgeable chef shares her knowledge in an abbreviated class and experience. Beautiful surroundings and unique home. Be prepared to hike stairs or we recommend a taxi from the train station. We found it challenging to find and cell service got sketchy. Google said 18 minutes but took me 45 to hike it.

Barbara had a great personality and we enjoyed our experience, conversation, and interaction. We hope to make this recipe at home soon

Barbara and Stephano were amazing hosts and the views and food was also incredible. We arrived quite late as we had trouble navigating from the cruise ship and they were gracious and helpful the entire time. They even helped us to navigate to town and called a cab for my mom when the class was done. Our gnocchi skills still need a lot of work (we will practice we promise!) but I will always remember this experience. It was one of the highlights of my Mediterranean cruise!

The setting for this experience submerges you into the Cinque Terre life. Barbarino and Stephon make you feel at home in their home and share their life experiences through their cooking. We spent 4 plus hours cooking eating and drinking local dishes including pastes from scratch. I would do this day again and again because our host made us feel so relaxed. They made our trip very special.

What a great way to spend an Italian evening! Giulia was a wonderful host while we made homemade pasta, tiramisu and ravioli. She also sent all recipes of what we made and we can’t wait to make at home for our friends and family. Thank you to Giulia!

I want to set the stage in your mind and try to describe this unbelievable adventure. We drove to Riomaggiore as close to the cooking class location as possible, and luckily there was a parking garage. We located the house with the help of a very kind garage attendant, who also informed us of a weather alert (heavy rains) which they take very seriously. We got there early and walked around the beautiful town. It is like a postcard. We returned to the class location and sat there marveling at some older people climbing massive stone stairs, wondering how hard it must be to manage this task daily. We saw another younger woman coming down the same steep staircase, and it was Giulia, our chef/teacher for the evening. She led us through a maze of stairs and hallways up to a beautiful apartment and she welcomed us inside. We were immediately served some espresso and delicious cheese and meats to snack on while we spent time sharing about Giulis's family history and ours. Giulia was very good cook and explained everything, teaching us to prepare fresh ravioli and pasta, as well as a delicious tiramisu. We drank wine, dined on our creations, and had wonderful conversation. This is not just a cooking class. It is a MUST do experience!!

Amazing time with Juliana. Very personal touch. I learned a few things. This Christmas’ dinner theme will be pasta dinners.

We had a great time! It was our third cooking class in Italy. The home was a little tricky to find, but in the end it was a great find. We had a great time with great people!

My friends and I had an amazing time with Barbara and Stefano. The location was simply stunning with an outdoor kitchen nestled in the cliffs and vineyard. We learned about cooking techniques and recipes from her grandmother. Best experience of our Cinque Terra visit.
Christine_O, Sep 2023
Unfortunately we were not told this experience wouldn’t be in the home of our hosts, and it was weather dependent and the dining table was under a vine covered porch. The terrain leading to the destination was very difficult to recognize and navigate. Less so when we left in the dark and the rain. We were unable to prepare the recipes and due to the rain we were unable to eat a meal. Instead we stood inside a makeshift kitchen to get out of the rain and ate our pre-prepared tiramisu. Despite all the negatives, our hosts Barbara and Stefan were very warm and inviting as well as apologetic for the weather delays and eventual premature end to our experience.
Response from Host, Feb 2026
Dear Christine,
We’re sorry the weather and location made the experience difficult and limited your participation. We’re glad Barbara and Stefano were warm and welcoming despite the challenges. Your feedback will help us improve communication and planning for future guests.
Sharyn_C, Sep 2023
Barbara and Stefano were wonderful hosts and taught us so much about the local cuisine and how to cook it.
We had a wonderful time, sitting on the deck of their home, overlooking the vineyards, enjoying what had been cooked with a glass of local wine.

Not being able to find the location and missing the event. Last minute details were too late to be useful. $640 wasted.
Response from Host, Feb 2026
Dear Guest,
We’re very sorry to hear about the difficulty in finding the location and that you missed the event. We completely understand how frustrating it is to have planned and paid for an experience that could not take place.
We also apologize that the last-minute details did not reach you in time to prevent this issue. Clear communication and accurate directions are critical, and your feedback highlights where improvements are needed.
We regret the disappointment and hope future bookings go smoothly so guests can fully enjoy their experiences.

We loved doing this. A great way to learn from Luca about the cultural history of the food, learn a skill, and meet new folks.

Luca was our host for the cooking experience in Riomaggiore. He was highly professional, knowledgeable, funny and made the experience highly enjoyable. We had dietary preferences that he happily accommodated, and the food was delicious!
