Since 2019, we are the first to offer Vernazza an experience dedicated to preparing pesto in the mortar, combining cooking, territory, conviviality, and tasting. You will learn to prepare pesto by hand, using selected ingredients. The experience takes place in a typical Cinque Terre cellar, with stone and wood, reminiscent of the atmosphere of old Vernazza. 12:30 - PESTO CLASS We will start with wine, focaccia, cheeses, and extra virgin olive oils. You will prepare your pesto in the mortar while tasting a second wine. The pesto will then be used to dress the gnocchi which you will eat with a third wine. We will conclude with limoncello and chocolate. 3:00 PM or 5:30 PM – PESTO SNACK CLASS After a taste of wine, you will prepare the pesto in the mortar while tasting a second wine. We will accompany it with focaccia, cheeses, oils, and a third wine. Finally, a real little shoe with bread and focaccia directly in the mortar! Take a walk on one of the lesser-known but most fascinating trails of the Cinque Terre. After a quick but engaging visit to the town of Vernazza, we will start climbing along the fascinating mule track towards the Sanctuary of the Madonna di Reggio (about 1 hour) at an altitude of 330 meters. During the climb, we will admire beautiful views of the Cinque Terre coast with its characteristic terraces supported by kilometers of dry-stone walls, where olives and grapes are cultivated to produce prestigious wines. In front of the shaded Sanctuary Square stands a monumental cypress (the oldest in Liguria!) and a majestic leccio. Before going down, we will visit the fascinating olive grove of Azienda Agricola la Bottega, where Ligure DOP extra virgin olive oil is produced. It will also be an opportunity to visit two cute ponies, which are the mascots of the farm. During the tour you can enjoy a glass of DOC 5 Terre wine accompanied by the typical Ligurian focaccia.

Highlight of our trip!

We had a wonderful time! Our guide Roberto was so nice and had a lot of interesting information about the Cinque Terre. The boat was beautiful and they had drinks and some excellent focaccia for us to snack on. Make sure you arrive at least 15 min early, the harbor is small so they dont have a lot of time at the docks and you have to hop on and off very quickly. Overall it was a wonderful way to spend an afternoon!

Fun Boat Ride

What a fun, relaxing and easy way to experience the gorgeous Cinque Terre coastline. Check in was quick and efficient. The captain was engaging and took great care of our small group. The swim stop was the right amount of time to enjoy being in the water. The prosecco and freshly baked focaccia were delicious. It’s always fun to meet people from different parts of the world for a shared experience.

The perfect pesto experience — a happy accident!

We actually ended up booking this pesto class at the last minute after the vineyard pesto class we had originally planned was unexpectedly cancelled, and I’m so glad we did because this turned out to be one of our favorite experiences! The class was such a nice pace — relaxed, fun, and informative without ever feeling rushed. Our instructor was wonderful and, being local to the region where pesto originated, made the experience feel especially authentic. The pesto we made was genuinely some of the best we had during our entire trip, and getting to sit down afterward and enjoy it right there with some lovely wine pairings made it even better. As an added bonus, our instructor’s name was Luca, which we thought was so fun considering we were in the Ligurian towns that inspired the setting of Luca. It was such a cute little coincidence that made the experience even more memorable. Our train was delayed, so we arrived a little later than planned, but our instructor was incredibly understanding and welcoming, and it didn’t negatively impact our experience at all. The location is also extremely easy to get to from the train station, which makes this a great activity if you’re visiting the area by train. What started as a last-minute backup plan ended up being an amazing experience that we would absolutely recommend. Great pesto, great wine, a wonderful instructor, and such a fun way to experience a piece of Ligurian culture!

This was a lovely...

This was a lovely afternoon! Vernazza is beautiful. The walk was fine but could be difficult for people with mobility issues--follow their instructions and wear good walking shoes! The lemon grove location was absolutely lovely, an amazing view! All of the food and drinks were delicious!

It Is SO Worth It!

It was incredible! If I can sway even one person thinking of booking with this review, it’s worth it! The guide Yvonne was incredible, so knowledgeable, and kind! She gives the history of Cinque Terre wine which is impressive and important to the region. She showed us the vineyard, gave us focaccia and cheese (it was the best focaccia of my life). Overall an incredible experience I would recommend to everyone. The wine was fantastic and super unique to the area!

We really enjoyed this...

We really enjoyed this class, it was in a great location and easy to get to, parking very close by which is the best in Cinque Terre. Our teacher was lovely and so fun, the pesto was divine and we had a great time learning about the recipe and techniques. You only get enough to make about 2 TBLS of pesto per person so the snacking after goes quick. I really enjoyed that there was ingredients and supplies we could buy to take with us, but I would have loved if there was some pre-made jars of the actual pesto recipe we made to bring home too. All in all we would go again!
