Giulia was wonderful and made our experience unforgettable. My husband and I had a wonderful time and getting to eat a meal we prepared with Giulia’s attentive and passionate guidance was so special. Grazie Mille!

This was a really great and enjoyable. The food was delicious and it was an awesome learning how to make pasta and tirimasu. Great location and memorable experience.

We had the best time cooking with Giulia and learned so much. She was so accommodating and we made the most delicious food! I can’t wait to make the pasta and tiramisu at home!

Giulia was our host for the pasta and tiramisu cooking class. It was a fabulous experience! She was knowledgeable, an excellent teacher and so sweet and fun. And don’t tell the Michelin rated restaurant that we ate at the following night, but our meal that we made with Giulia was way better! Can’t wait to try making pasta, ravioli and tiramisu when we get home from our vacation. Giulia also made us a bruschetta and cheese appetizer to munch on while we were cooking. We loved the relaxed and delicious experience. Add this to your list for sure!!!

Guila welcomed us warmly and shared her knowledge and love of cooking with us. This experience is a highlight of our trip.

This amazing experience just up the hill in Riomaggiore was so worth it. We had superb food and conversation and came home with a new skill instead of a trinket that will sit in a shelf. The host was wonderful and we all had a great time. One of the highlights in our trip!

This was one of the highlights of our trip. The food and conversation were amazing. I would definitely do this again and recommend it to my friends.

Barbara and her husband are lovely and put their heart into their cooking classes. They are attentive and go through cooking great Italian dishes step by step. They accommodate for personal preferences and work hard to give you a good experience.
They have a beautiful property with amazing views of the town. The location is a bit remote but easily reachable by taxi. I highly recommend you take a local taxi, they know Barbara and can easily find her location. If you choose to walk, be aware that the path involves a hike. To their defense, clear directions were provided but I chose to follow the GPS Instead which was a mistake. It took us through hike we were not prepared for which took away from our experience. Soooooo…. Be sure to follow the directions provided or get a cab from the base of town to get there.

Had a great experience at the cooking class. Learned how to make ravioli, tagliatelle and tiramisu :)

My second time visiting these two talented, fun chefs. Great food options and flexibility. Unique location that is breathtaking. It is a bit of a walk/hike to the property. Any type of physical challenges, not recommended. For us, it was all part of the experience.

Our host were GREAT but getting there was difficult. Our host contacted us multiple ways (not their fault) but I was not receiving WhatsApp messages and did not see the follow up email-Viator does not give our contact details in enough time to make sure we could get in contact with our host. If you walk it’s quite a trek up stairs and use google maps NOT Apple Maps. The class, the view and the dishes were all amazing. Once we made it to our host home it was a perfect experience. Thankful the host was able to accommodate us being late. Barbra and her husband were a joy!!!

Barbara (our host) made the experience incredible! Lots of amazing food and wine. So fun being in a real home making real food.
Carleigh_C, May 2025
Very fun experience! The directions to get there are a little confusing but Barbara gives you the number of a taxi company to use which would make the trip much easier. We briefly got lost but Barbara directed us via video call. Our class ran about 2.5 hours after the expected ending time which made things difficult when timing the train to get back to our Airbnb. Overall, it was a great time and Barabara/Stefano were so fun. The food was amazing and it was worth the money! Would definitely recommend it.

The cooking class with Barbara and her husband was amazing! The class was part demonstration and part hands-on cooking. We made pasta and tiramisu…our teenagers said it was the best pasta they had during our whole Italy vacation. Barbara is patient, funny and shared a lot of interesting cooking tips. My daughter has a tree nut allergy and she was very thoughtful and careful about what my daughter could eat. Their home is beautiful and the views are amazing. Just leave plenty of time to get to their house…In addition to a taxi cab ride, it is a 5-10 minute hike down to their house from the road. Thank you to Barbara and Stefano for welcoming us into their home and letting us share in such a wonderful experience!
Carin_M, Apr 2025
Barbara and her husband were personable and shared ideas for what to see locally as well as fabulous cooking tips. Their home was lovely, nestled amongst olive groves and lemon trees. The food was delicious and it was definitely the highlight of our trip!

Small group was great as it was just the two of us. Giulia was very knowledgeable and patient. She gave great directions and encouragement. Enjoyed talking with her and she made us feel like we can go straight home and recreate the dishes.
Emily_F, Nov 2024
This was a wonderful experience. I liked the small group environment. It was entertaining, educational, and very delicious! I can’t wait to go home and make my own pasta and tiramisu!

Barbara and Stefano opened up their home to my wife and I; we couldn't have had a better experience. They were both not only phenomenal chefs and teachers, but they were both warm and extremely enjoyable to talk to. We're grateful that we got the chance to meet them and learn from their Italian cooking expertise. The recipes we cooked were Barbara's family recipes and they were incredible. We would recommend anybody to take this class and would absolutely go back. Thank you again Barbara and Stefano for an amazing day!

I booked 3 excursions (Airbnb experience, get your guide, viator) and only had difficulty with viator.
I read past reviews about the RIOMAGGIORE small group cooking class - others had trouble finding it and one missed the class completely. This should’ve been a red flag however I thought 2 hours would be plenty of time to locate this class.
The day before viator emailed links however it was an orange alert in cinque terre so I had poor WiFi. I typed the generic address and we climbed up a mountain and got lost. I emailed viator and called the class teacher but it went to voicemail.
Later that night, I checked WhatsApp and the cooking teacher had sent 4 texts the day before. I NEVER check WhatsApp. I immediately messaged her to apologize and explained what happened. It looked like she was going to respond then she deleted the conversation thread.
I should’ve asked if we could do the class the next day or she could’ve offered too. Losing $810 on an excursion is a big lesson learned!! Especially since this was my first time using viator.
I had NO idea the cooking teacher would contact me through WhatsApp as other excursion companies always directly emailed & texted my phone.
Response from Host, Feb 2026
Dear Patty,
Thank you for sharing your experience and feedback. We are very sorry to hear about the difficulties you encountered in locating the class and understand how frustrating this must have been.
We would like to clarify that in Italy, WhatsApp is the primary way we communicate with our guests before and during in-home experiences. This allows us to send timely messages, answer questions quickly, and provide directions or updates directly. We understand that this may differ from other excursion companies that rely on email or SMS, and we appreciate that it can take some adjustment for first-time users.
We are glad you were able to reach out to the host via WhatsApp and sincerely regret that the situation led to confusion and a missed class. Your feedback is very valuable, as it helps us improve communication and set clearer expectations for future guests.
We hope that despite this experience, you will consider enjoying another in-home cooking class in the future.
Best regards,

Exceptional, in every way. How to describe a breathtaking location/home; welcoming hosts allowing us into their personal space; paid for 3 hours, got 4; allowed us to tour their small farm, then there was the cooking lessons! My wife and I now have an instruction manual and recipe book (we took notes) that will become a family heirloom. The best experience of our 10 day Italian trip.

We had an ABSOLUTELY AMAZING time with Barbara and her husband. The class is held at her house which has a beautiful view of the Riomaggiore and the water for sunset. She has a beautiful kitchen to host! We enjoyed making bruschetta, multiple different sauces, tiramisu, and pasta. Barbara teaches family recipes and clearly has an incredible talent and knowledge base for teaching the course. We learned a tremendous amount, picked fresh ingredients straight from her home garden, enjoyed fantastic food and wine, watched a beautiful sunset, and had a wonderful time getting to know the group over dinner! I would recommend this experience to anyone!

Julia was the best instructor! Very well organized class! Everyone made pasta and then we made tiramisu as a group. She then prepared the pasta and it was delicious! Apertivo and wine included. Julia was very easy to talk to and it was fun to talk to her and hear about life in Italy. Totally recommend this class!

Can’t recommend this experience enough. Barbara is such great fun, warm, and a wonderful teacher & home cook. The class is what you make it - Barbara is happy to answer any question and share her family’s delicious recipes. It was truly a memorable night.
In short, I’d happily forget how to cook pasta, just to take this class again.
Thanks for welcoming us into your home!

What an amazing experience! We had a group of 8 which was her biggest group and we had a blast.
We made ravioli with spinach and ricotta filling which Giulia served two ways and we then made tagliatelle with the left over pieces, and Giulia turned this into an amazing pesto dish.
We also made tiramisu and we all took turns mixing etc. We then sat down as a big family chatting, telling life stories and drinking wine into the night.
What a perfect way to end an amazing trip and Giulia made us feel so welcome. If you want to share a great experience with some new people, then definitely do this.
Giulia you’re amazing and thank you again for having us. Ciao!

The original Viator advert sounded perfect – pasta making, including gnocchi was exactly what I was looking for. The communication prior to the day was great. All the communication showed a meeting place and we planned around that.
One the day, when we arrived at Riomaggiore, we called Barbera and were then told not to go to the meeting point, but to climb some steep old rickety stairs. We had not expected this, and it was a steep climb. This wasn’t a great start to the evening.
The course had no structure. She asked us what we wanted to make (two sauces, or two pasta) and when I asked if we could make gnocchi, it felt like I had put her out. There was a tremendous amount of acting between Barbera and Stefano, her husband, which was funny to start, but got stale. There were no drinks provided until the starter that Stefano had been working on in isolation was served (delicious bruschetta). I had asked if wine would be provided and was told it would be throughout. I would have brought my own if I had known.
Barbera did a lot of talking and preparation at the start – most of it was for the tiramisu, or for a dish she was making for a course the next day. When we finally go round to making the linguini, it was a bit chaotic and not a lot was made. The gnocchi making was more structured and was good!
When we finally sat down to eat, it was so rushed we could hardly eat the food. It really felt like we were being ushered out. We met another couple a few days later at one of the stations and happened to find out they had been on the same course the day after us – their experience was the same… chaotic cooking, and then being rushed through the eating.
My advice to Barbera and Stefano:
- Be more explicit about the menu
- Be very explicit about the location
- Control the class and make it more interactive
- Provide drinks
- Make sure you finish everything with time to allow people to eat and enjoy it
Response from Host, Feb 2026
Dear Conley,
Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We are truly sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations and that the evening felt disorganized and rushed.
First of all, we sincerely apologize for the confusion regarding the meeting point and the unexpected climb. We understand how frustrating that must have been, especially when you had carefully planned your arrival based on the information provided. For this experience, the correct meeting point and the host’s contact details are provided in the final confirmation message sent by Viator after booking. The location shown on Viator’s general listing page is a generic reference point and is not intended as the actual meeting location. When guests arrive at the confirmed address, the host is present as scheduled.
We are also very sorry that the class structure felt chaotic and that the experience did not feel as interactive and well-paced as it should have. This is certainly not the impression we wish to leave. Your comments regarding the menu clarity, the organization of the cooking process, the availability of drinks, and allowing sufficient time to sit and enjoy the meal are extremely valuable.
Our goal is always to create a warm, authentic, and enjoyable experience, and we are genuinely disappointed to learn that we fell short during your visit. Please know that your feedback has been taken seriously and will help us improve both the structure and communication of the experience.
Thank you again for your honesty and for giving us the opportunity to reflect and grow.

Giulia’s cooking class was the best, most authentic cooking class we’ve ever taken. In a small apartment setting she teaches you how to make pasta and tiramisu. And after it’s all complete you gather like a family sharing stories and eating the most delicious meal! Cannot wait to share this experience at home with my family! 100% sign up with Giulia!
Hayley_M, Sep 2024
Please, BOOK this experience with Giulia! You will thank me later.
My wife and I have been travelling for 3.5 weeks throughout Europe, this by far is in our top experiences of our holiday so far and I don’t imagine it will be topped.
Giulia is very knowledgeable, very kind, easy to get along with and very experienced. It was the perfect amount of involvement in the preparations of the food, with moments of rest with some wine with painting like views.
And then you finish off your time with a meal around the table with Giulia and her husband Alessandro, a true Italian experience with great conversation.
I cannot speak highly enough about our time with Giulia, I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

Barbara and Stefano were lovely hosts! We enjoyed them very much and learned a good bit about cooking pasta, sauces and tiramisu! The Viator posted the wrong time as we arrived almost an hour early . This location is not easy to reach for handicapped or persons needing any assistance… it’s an adventure! Loved it ! Highly recommend!!
