Itinerary

Start with a pickup from your central Cairo or Giza hotel by private, air-conditioned vehicle. Meet your Egyptologist guide, and set off to explore the city’s highlights. If there’s something you want to see more of, let your guide know: your tour is private, so the itinerary can be tailored to your interests and will last between 6-8 hours.

Visit the Giza Plateau in the el-Giza district, to admire the three Giza pyramids. Marvel at these massive ancient burial tombs, built around 2,500 BC, and learn how and why they were constructed.Get free time to enter one of the pyramids  (additional cost) and explore its empty inner chambers independently — your guide is not permitted to enter with you.

Gaze up at the colossal Sphinx, the enigmatic statue of a human-headed lion that guards the pyramids, and if you wish, visit the Solar Boat Museum (additional cost); home to the funerary boat of Khufu, the pharaoh for whom the Great Pyramid was built. Admire the beautiful wooden boat, once used to transport Khufu’s body to the site, and learn how its remnants were discovered and reassembled.

Then, head inside Cairo’s Egyptian Museum, home to some 120,000 incredible ancient artifacts. Let your guide introduce you to some of the highlights, including the star attraction: the treasures of Tutankhamun. Admire the boy king’s gold death mask, coffins and funerary treasures, and learn about his short and troubled reign. Then, enjoy some free time to explore the museum at leisure.

Finish with a visit to Khan el-Khalili bazaar, Cairo’s main souk. Meander through the bustling lanes and perhaps haggle for goodies such as gold, rugs, spices and other wares.

If you’ve upgraded to include lunch, take a break for your meal as you travel between the sites. In addition, pay a short visit to a papyrus institute to see how time-honored papyrus artworks are created. See some artists in action and if you wish, purchase some papyrus paintings.

When the time comes, your tour ends with a drop-off back at your hotel.

I totally recommend this tour is you...

Stephen H, Apr 2018
I totally recommend this tour is you are looking for the highlights and insights to the pyramids. The history and information provided to us by our guide as mind filling and blowing at the same time! Our guide walked us through the labyrinth of the museum showing us amazing things and discussing in great detail the significance of each piece. Just to understand, you could easily spend three days in the museum just to see most of the artifacts! We had a special request for young lady Gallebaya's, to which another guide mentioned the best Egyptian cotton is found in Cairo and our guide accommodated our ask and took us to a wonderful store and mission accomplished. Next we traveled to the Pyramids. Again, if you think the pyramids are big, and they are getting around them took three different car rides! There is a lot going on but our guide and our driver knew where to go, how to get there and we never seemed to get stuck in traffic! Great time, and cannot recommend this tour enough!

The tour was booked for the wrong day. The contact info for the travel company was incorrect. I tried calling both numbers they had listed in order to rectify the issue with the dates and both numbers were out of service and nobody responded to my email. They then charged me for a full tour that I did not receive.

Great tour - well worth going privately. The guide provided lots of information and basically let us do lots of walking around on our own. Didn't feel like we got to really see the Bazaar as much so we went back again a different day.

Wow - this was an incredible experience. Our tour guide, Ahmet Achmed was unbelievable. He was knowledgeable, engaging, full of energy and customized the day so we had a full experience. We only had one day in Cairo so Ahmet made sure it was a memorable experience. It's a beautiful city and we are so grateful that we got to spend the day touring with Ahmet who has a great way of presenting the story of Egypt that kept us entertained all day. Definitely recommend. Also, the tour company was exceptional at customer service. They were very responsive and are highly, highly recommended. Thanks!

WOW! This was a fabulous first day in Cairo. I would insist that anyone coming to Cairo should do this trip, unless you are dead-set on spending an entire day at the Egyptian Museum. It was great to get our bearings with a guide, and we felt safe the whole time. The driver was great, even though general driving in Giza/Cairo isn't : Our guide Ahmet? was phenomenal. He was very aware of how warm the day would be and paced things accordingly. He was an excellent guide through the pyramids and Egypt Museum and was willing to answer all of our questions. He took great pictures of us, too! Hearing about history from a local made a huge impact on us. We like to think of ourselves as budget travelers, but this tour was worth every penny. We liked how the private tour made our plans more flexible-- we were able to add in a quick camel photo ride and entering the pyramids for an extra cost. He let us pick how much time we wanted to spend at the Bazaar on our own, and we found 45-60 minutes was plenty of time for us. Be prepared to have some money along to pay for the Mummy Room, a camel ride, Bazaar shopping, etc. if any of those interest you... AND enough for tips, because our guide and driver were both fantastic. They stopped at an ATM for us along the way. Bring water along! If you have limited time in Cairo as we did, I would highly recommend doing this tour the first day and a guided tour to Dashur, Memphis, Sakkara Saquara, and the Great Pyramids yes, a second time on the second day.

Erick G, Jun 2017
Visiting the tourist sites in Cairo during your first visit to the city can be a little overwhelming. Not with this tour. It was very well organized. Our guide was extremely informative. The only thing is: if you have been to other bazaars in northern Africa or the Middle East, the Khan el-Khalili Bazzar can be disappointing. But, the beauty of a private tour is that you can minimize your time there or even skip and maximize your time elsewhere. Do not skip the Egyptian Museum. Is really worth the visit.

Jeronymo C, Dec 2016
I couldn't be more glad! The tour guide Abdel is an Egyptologist that used to be a teacher and he provided a lot of good information. The tour was always on time and we were able to stop at the Merit Bazaar to check the papyrus and cartouches stores. I would recommend to add the camel ride. I got great pictures riding from Khufu to Menkaure. As a bonus, I lunched at a restaurant with a nice view of the Giza pyramids and I also received a wake-up call one hour prior to the tour.

Charles P, Dec 2016
I booked this tour because I was excited to be able to talk with the guide to have him customize our tour for us. He did quite the opposite. He told us what he wanted to do. The most enjoyable things we did on the tour were things that we had to tell him we wanted to do. We wanted to pay extra to go inside the pyramids and he just complained to us about how terrible it was. While my friend and I were getting emotional about the beautiful sight of the pyramids and trying to have a moment to enjoy it he interrupted that moment to take over touristy and corny photos that we didn't want. He did not follow the itinerary and took us to a Papyrus shop that was not on the schedule where he very obviously had connections with the owners. We had to argue with him to get to go to the Khan al Khalily market because he wanted to take us to a friend's Essence shop instead. After we convinced him to do the market we had to argue with him to stay longer than a half hour so we felt rushed. Additionally we spent only an hour at the Egyptian Museum. I feel cheated and would like my money back. I am sad that Viator would work with such terrible tour operators who didn't even seem to respect the beauty and tremendousness of the amazing cultural history that Egypt has to offer. I would rather have haggled with cab drivers and done each thing on my own then have dealt with this terrible guide. It would have been cheaper and in essence that is all I feel that I got from this tour, an overpriced transport and a terrible and disrespectful guide.

Tour guide was very knowledgeable and helpful. Advised on how to avoid tourist traps. We were ahead of schedule so we were able to stop in the papyrus store which was a bonus. Lunch was in a lovely small restaurant, clean washrooms. Transport was modern and on time. Overall a long day, 8am to 4pm, but worth it. Would recommend this package to anybody wanting to gain an overview of the ancient Egyptian era.

This was a fast but immensely interesting day. Well worth the time. Our guide Mohammad was very knowlegable. The only comment to make is if one likes history and museums, the Egyptian Museum a.k.a. Cairo Museum, really deserves much more time. I hope to go back some time to see more.

The tour was great and the guide was very knowledgeable. My only complaint is the scam with the Egyptian Papyrus shop. It was not listed but appeared all tours were doing this. You are pressured into buying something. For that reason I will not do another tour with this site

Invaluable Top notch service. Flexible schedule to meet our preferences. Private means private. Using this tour provided us the opportunity to see so much in one day. Couldn't have done it othersiwe. Egyptologist was great. Separate car with driver allowed us to be dropped off at the front door

Mohammad B, Jun 2016
I thoroughly enjoyed this tour and found the tour guide to be informative and helpful. Starting with the Egyptian Museum, there really is so much to see and there wouldn't be enough time in the tour to cover even half of it. I was walked through the story of Tutankhamen and saw a lot of his belongings and other antiquities found in his tomb. I'd highly recommend reading up or watching a documentary on Ancient Egypt to fully appreciate what's to see here. The Khan el-Khalili Bazaar was somewhat underwhelming. It hasn't much to offer but it is worth a visit. Do be ready to haggle, the vendors speak perfect English and will use all kinds of Sales tactics to oversell their products. The entry to the Funerary Complex and the Sphinx were beautiful. Though the guide would tell you much of the history of these places, it would really help to know a little prior to visiting. The Pyramids were simply the best thing about visiting Cairo. They are every bit as grand as people say. Putting my hand on the warm yet soft stone for the first time will be something I never forget. Being with the tour guide in this area really has it's advantages and I would highly advise it. The tour guide himself was very friendly and informative. He was happy to answer any questions and the way he told some of the stories of Ancient Egypt especially in the Solar Boat Museum was truly captivating. I very shamefully forgot to tip him before I left as there isn't much of a tip culture where I come from so please be sure to give tip the drivers and the guides as you see fit. Overall, this tour was great for people visiting for a short time and really gives a strong feel of what Cairo has to offer.

The Pyramids were awesome. The Sphinx was mind blowing. Paid extra to go inside the pyramid. Not much to see inside but glad we went. The tour guide K was the best. Extremely knowledgeable and spoke perfect English. Paid extra for camel rides. Keep in mind to have some small notes as the young boys that walk the camels insist on a tip.

Felipe B, May 2016
Incredibly honored to have stepped in this 5000 years old site. The pyramids are just as mythical as they are great. We went inside up to the tomb and it's just an unique feeling to be there. The Khan el-Khalili Bazaar is a true culture immersion and full of beautiful Egyptian tokens/gifts. Our guide Ossama Sharaf was very knowledgeable and guided us through every step. We ended with a traditional mint tea in a cafe by Khan el-Khalili after going over the sites of the tour plus a few n surprises on the way I would definitely do this again and if you can, ask for this guide, he was awesome.

We had a full day tour with Ahmed guide and Zaki driver. Both were extremely professional and courteous. Ahmed was a very knowledgeable and personable guide. He made good recommendations and gave advice re: tourism in Cairo, without being forceful or persistent. We really enjoyed his company for the day, and were delighted with our Cairo tour experience.

Melanie S, Feb 2016
Our guide and driver were both fantastic, took us everywhere we wanted to go, spending basically as much time as we wanted at each incredible attraction and adjusting the itinerary as needed! Hit the pyramids first in the morning, especially if you want to go inside cost about 20-40 depending on which pyramid is open as there are fewer people - only a few dozen at 9am when we visited in November! With only my friend and I on the tour, it was a very personal and enlightening experience - be prepared to haggle politely in the Bazaar, be approached to buy every trinket at every stop, asked to ride camels, horses and pose for photos for free nothing is free! and remember - لا شكرا la shukraan for no thanks with a smile, still wins a lot of friends! I would totally recommend this tour for anyone, big thumbs up to South Sinai Tours and their amazing staff! :

This tour is a must do! It was incredible. We went into one of the pyramids which wasn't much more . We got great pictures in front of the pyramids. We also paid extra for the camel ride. Our tour guide Tito was awesome! He's very knowledgeable. We didn't end up doing the Bazaar and chose to spend more time at the pyramids.
