Itinerary
Put on warm clothes and sturdy walking shoes, and meet your guide and the rest of your group in central Barcelona. Hop inside your air-conditioned minivan and journey into the countryside on route to the Pyrenees.
As you travel, hear tales of the region’s history from your guide and pass Montseny Natural Park, a protected region of mountains, forests and high moors.
After roughly an hour, make your first stop in the quaint market town of Vic. Enjoy free time for breakfast (own expense) or to explore the medieval center, with its picturesque market square, cathedral and Romanesque and neoclassical buildings with your guide.
Back aboard your minivan, continue to the stone-built mountain village of Queralbs; the last point on your route accessible by road. Leave the minivan, and accompanied by your guide, ride the rack railway up to the Nuria Valley. Home to a lake and bright green pastures ringed by high peaks, this picturebook valley is one of the most beautiful in the Pyrenees.
Admire the scenery from the train, and on arrival, enjoy several hours to explore as you wish. Perhaps follow your choice of the hiking trails suitable for different fitness levels, such as the paths up to the Valley Coma de Vaca. Although a good physical fitness is not a prerequisite of this tour, a reasonable level is required if you wish to take the Coma de Vaca trails.
Alternatively, take your pick from the local activities (own expense) such as horseback riding or boating, or enjoy a meal (own expense) at one of the traditional Catalan restaurants. See the Itinerary for details of the activities available.
When the time comes, return to Barcelona where your trip ends at the start point.
Please note: Annual track maintenance on the rack railway from Queralbs means that the line is closed between Mondays and Fridays from November 1 to November 30. On these days, the tour will run to an alternative itinerary that involves accessing the mountain valleys by road or hiking at a lower height. These changes will in no way take away from your Pyrenees experience.

This was a great trip up into the Pyrenees. Nuria was a great guide. We stopped at several places along the way and saw some beautiful mountain views. I would definitely do this tour if you like the mountains and are looking to escape the city for a bit.

Overall great trip, including the stop overs. Carman did a terrific job leading the tour and providing historical background. A great day away from the city.
It was a wonder visit to Vic and the Vall de Nuria, Spanish Pyrenees. Our guide Carme was warm, friendly and knowledgeable with the facts and interesting details of the places we visited. She also recommended for us to have a picnic at the lake which was beautiful. Definitely well worth the visit and if you get Carme as your guide, you are in wonderful hands. Thank you, Carme
The Pyrenees Mtns were beautiful!
The guide took us in a pleasant drive in an SUV throught the countryside visiting medieval old town of Vic along the way. Lunch on our own. Our ticket included a ride on tram and gondola up to top of mountain at Vall de Nuria resort. Spectacular views at top and nice walk back down to tram station.
Beautiful tour.Loved the diversity of landscapes..
From medivial towns to pristine lake - this was such a beautiful day.Lir guide Sirjee (Sergie) was so passionate, informative and helpful . We were a small group of 8, and the entire day was an amazing experience - right from the old town Vic to the blue watered lake Nuria surrounded by the Pyrenees and to end the day with Queralps - every stop was so beautiful
We had the best time on the excursion, our guide William was very knowledgeable and enhanced our understanding and knowledge of each place we visited.
Visiting the two towns and going on the rack railroad up to the mountains was a very good experience. Our guide Steven did a great job driving us there and giving commentary about the area. His handling of the bad weather at the mountain made the trip worthwhile.
So great to get out of the city and into nature for a day. Berta did a nice job personalizing the tour to our family. Recommend the gondola ride to the top but the buffet at the hotel.
This tour took us on a magical visit thru history. Vall de Nuria felt like a Hallmark movie. So much beauty and fresh air. Tren cremallera up the mountain was modern, comfortable and not scary.
Unique experience to visit the market town of Vic, medieval village of Queralbs, rack railway to Nuria Valley
Marta was awesome! We wish she could be our guide throughout our time in Spain! Plus she’s an amazing driver! This tour was well worth the time and money!
Great day trip if you are in barcelona. Pyrenees is beautiful! A nice little place to explore while in Barcelona. The guide was knowledgeable.
It is a long day so be prepared for a long journey. In saying that Sergio was a fantastic guide who pointed out things along the way, spoke of the history of the towns. Was attentive and very knowledgeable In Vic, if not a market day, go to the bakeries for food.
We visited a long time ago when it was market day, that was super. Queralbs and the cog train were great. Vall St Nuria is just so picturesque. Would have given 4.5 stars.
Excellent tour into the Pyrenees, stunning views & enjoyable visits to the 3 medieval villages via van & a short train ride. Our guide Sergio was very knowledgeable & fun to listen to & he had with him Alex, an assistant, learning about this particular excursion. We really liked the small group aspect & that there was ample free time to walk around, built in. Not recommended for young children but very comfortable for all other ages. We’d do it again.
This tour was filled with charming villages and glorious scenery, woven together with brilliance by a knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide who was determined to bring us together with music and laughter. This was such a memorable tour!
Great trip to Vic, Queralbs, and the Pyrenees! Guide Javi was very well informed and a pleasure to meet.
Marta was amazing. She made the group cohesive making sure she understood what each person was interested in and then made use the trip had something that met their interests. Also gave us great insights into cultural and political insights into Life in Spain. You can hike not at all or at he most about 400 feet down or up to cable car top.
My family thought that this was the best part of our visit to eastern Spain.
My wife, two teenage daughters and I went on this excursion.
Very professional tour operator.
Big, well staffed office.
Can had three rows and held 8 tourists, plus driver/tour guide.
Stopped every 60-90 minutes. Train ride through mountain tunnels. Cable car up the mountain ridge.
Free time to explore at each stop, after guided portion.
We went from in mid-June. It was warmer at the first stop than it was in Barcelona. The second stop was about the same temperature. The final stop at the ski resort in the mountain valley was only slightly cooler due to some pleasant mountain breezes.
Best once in a lifetime tour. If your a hiking, mountain, old town buff, this is for you. It was magical.
This was a great trip up into the Pyrenees. Nuria was a great guide. We stopped at several places along the way and saw some beautiful mountain views. I would definitely do this tour if you like the mountains and are looking to escape the city for a bit.
It was a full day with lots of great experiences Our tour guide, Neu, was great. Informative, well versed, and patient.
I did this tour with my husband, and we absolutely loved it. The destination is truly breathtaking and exceeded all our expectations – it’s definitely worth the visit!
A special highlight of our experience was our guide, Nuria. She was exceptional – extremely knowledgeable, attentive, and always willing to help everyone in the group. Her passion for the place and dedication to making the experience enjoyable for all made a big difference.
We wholeheartedly recommend this tour. It was a memorable and enriching experience that we would gladly repeat!
Steven was a wonderful guide! Looked after everyone very kindly. Loved all the sites, especially the cog train!
Our guide was great and we got to see and hear many interesting things. The kids also loved it. A must see.
Fascinating experience visiting Vall de Nuria taking the railway train from Queralbs. Queralbs town itself is a wonder, seems like a page out of history with its medieval vibes! At Vall de Nuria, it is highly recommended to take the cable car up to the Shelter; the view is fabulous! Our guide, Nu, made our visit all the more interesting by sharing the history of Virgin Mary of Nuria and the Sanctuary/Basilica, and driving us safely over the long distance.
Sergio was our tour guide!! Five stars! Had a great time! Small group was the way to go! Vic, Spain, the train ride and cable car was so cool! Plus the visit to the medieval town was the icing on the cake. I would recommend this tour to everyone.
The market at Vic and Querlbs church. Walking through the ancient town revealed the real essence of Spain. Marta was very informative and explained the trip in an intimate manner.
Jordi was an awesome tour guide! It was a wonderful day and the sites were breathtaking! We would definitely do another tour with him next time!!
Stephen did a great job leading the excursion, playing the roles of both driver and tour guide. He made sure we got to all the sites on time, gave us an engaging history lesson, and taught us some local phrases. His impressive driving skills meant that we were able to get back in town before the stated arrival time giving us the chance to see a couple more spots in the early evening before they closed. All in all, a wonderful tour!
We had a wonderful trip with ‘New’ (sorry I don’t know the spelling). She was very knowledgeable and interesting - and also did all the driving. It was beautiful and the stops were fun.
We had a fantastic trip filled with history, fun, and beautiful, breathtaking views. This was one of our favorite adventures in the area. We also liked the small group setting of the tour.
We learned so much from our tour guide, Sergio, who also took very good care of us from making sure we all had maps as souvenirs to driving us safely. We want to give a special thanks to Sergio: you are a kind, thoughtful, and passionate guide. We hope to run into you in the future. (We actually did at a different tour!!!)
Highly recommend for people who want to get out of the city and enjoy history and nature.
