Itinerary
The full-day tour begins with pickup at your Barcelona accommodation and a drive south along the Costa Dorada to the ancient city of Tarragona. Called Tarraco during the days of the Roman Empire, this was one of the main cities of ancient Hispania and bears archaeological traces of its stately past through well-preserved ruins.
Explore the UNESCO World Heritage–listed complex with your guide, listening to tales of power and glory as you visit the ancient city walls, Roman Forum, and shoreline amphitheater that dates back to the 2nd century.
Travel back into the modern era as you head up the coast to Sitges, a charming fishing town that was once a popular health tourism destination thanks to its proximity to both sea and mountains. Take a walking tour through the winding streets of the old town center, passing landmarks including the church of San Bartolomé and Santa Tecla, and Modernist gems such as Casa Bacardi.
Unique shops, restaurants, and live music lend Sitges a bohemian and artistic atmosphere that spills out onto the sandy shores of San Sebastian Beach. Spend some time admiring the view from a beachside terrace or perhaps taking a dip in the Mediterranean waters before the return drive to Barcelona.

This tour involved more walking than we expected at the ruins-which was a little exhausting as a start. Wish that we had had more free time at Stiges to just enjoy the sea and beauty. Knowledgeable guide but in 3-seater van hard to hear. A microphone would have helped immensely.

I enjoyed the tour very much. Our guide was very knowledgeable and took care of some group members who needed additional assistance.

Lots of stairs and walking, enjoyed the ocean, great views, history and food. Our guide, Miguel was very informative and enjoyable.

This trip was fantastic! Eduardo was my guide and he was efficient, hilarious, knowledgeable and very kind. We had plenty of time to explore and he gave us insight into every stop we made. Tarragona was beautiful! Overall so much fun. Highly highly recommend.

Get ready for small group fantastic packed tour. Wear some comfortable shoe, I would not suggest sandals because of the rocky terrain; but you will see the aqueduct up close. Miquel lead us with amazing information throughout our trip. Ask him about the “Humphrey” joke lol! He’s a pretty good photographer too. Thanks Uncle Mike

Eduardo was a really good guide, kept the whole day fun and interesting. He is a good story teller on top of being a very good guide. Wish we had more time in Tarragona.

Tour was fantastic. Vincent, our tour guide was a total gem. Picked us up on time and was very knowledgeable about the area. There was only 5 people in our group. The pace of the day was spot on. We were not rushed and saw amazing architecture and sights. I highly recommend Vincent - we could not have asked for a better experience. Lunch and the gelato by the sea in Sitiges was great as well.

Such a glorious day out of Barcelona city. Our guide, Miquel - an exemplary driver by the way - was fun, very knowledgeable and didn’t tire once, despite having to chaperone eight of us. Thoroughly recommend this trip.

This tour was wonderful. A great day away from the city to see the Roman influence in Spain and an afternoon by the coast. Our guide Lluis was laid back and very informative about the history.

Great day out, very well organized, driving in quality van with knowledgeable guide Luis. The day was well paced with interesting stops, time to eat, sightseeing and learning. Tarragona was beautiful and a nice change from Barcelona. The aqueduct is fascinating and the amphitheater was awesome. Sitges by the sea was great to wander around and explore. It has a quaint atmosphere with a mix of beaches and old town houses and shopping.

I’m 70 and was a bit timid to head out alone but I am SO HAPPY I did. And even more happy to have gotten Eduardo for our guide! Aside from the standard historical information, he provided translations , taught us popular dichos, gently encouraged our Spanish and was preciously attentive to everyone ( from this “vintage” [Eduardo’s adjective, ha!]) to the wee girl in the group. It was an informative, entertaining, delicious and delightful day!! (and, Eduardo, Mick would be sooo impressed!) Thank you, thank you… er, I mean, Muchisimas gracias!!

We loved every minute of this tour with Ramón! He was very professional and had so much pride in his heritage. He clearly knew just about everything there was to know about the history of each site and was eager to share and answer our questions. We were awestruck by the opportunity to see ancient Roman aqueducts and amphitheaters in the same day trip with a visit to a beautiful beachside community. I cannot recommend Ramón and this tour highly enough! It was truly amazing from beginning to end thanks to Ramón.

We had an absolutely fantastic full-day tour with our guide, Diego!
Our day began with an 8:00 AM pickup in El Born, and from start to finish everything was seamless, engaging, and beautifully paced. We explored the stunning coastal history of Tarragona and the charm and relaxed seaside vibe of Sitges before returning to our original pickup spot at 8:45 PM — tired in the best possible way after such a memorable day.
Along the way, we visited the incredible Ferreres Aqueduct, the fascinating Roman Circus of Tarragona, and the breathtaking Tarragona Amphitheatre. We also strolled along La Rambla Nova, learned of the cultural tradition of Castellers, and wandered through the beautiful old town, including a visit to the stunning Tarragona Cathedral.
Our group was wonderful and truly made the experience even more special — Roman from Germany, Kathie from the Philippines, Michele and Beth from Boston, Francesca and Brandon from New York, and a lovely couple from Limerick, Ireland.
One of the highlights was an amazing lunch at Toful where we enjoyed an incredible variety of tapas. The sepia (fried squid) and cod were absolutely delicious — we highly recommend!
Diego was knowledgeable, personable, and made sure everyone felt included throughout the day. This was truly one of the highlights of our trip!

Amazing day exploring and learning all about Tarragona and Sitges. Eduardo was the best tour guide we have ever had. He was full of knowledge about the area, funny and entertaining. We absolutely enjoyed the entire day and highly recommend this tour!

Llius was an amazing guide. He has so much knowledge to share and didn't think we were crazy for asking questions. I have memories from every place that we stopped. I thoroughly enjoyed the gladiator arena and everything else that we saw. I would highly recommend this tour and Llius as a tour guide. He was great in his driving and was safe and professional. There's quite a bit of walking so just be prepared for that. It was not hard to do and I am in my late '50s.
Penelope_R, Feb 2026
A great trip, a very easy-going day. Our guide Ramon has a vast amount of history knowledge to share.
Patricia_H, Feb 2026
Tarragona was the highlight of my Spain trip. It was a total surprise! I loved it! Vincent, our guide was literally a walking Wikipedia. His historical storytelling was amazing and engaging (even fun for my 12 year old). I learned so much (even things I didn’t know as a European). I highly recommend this day trip, especially if you want to see remainders of the Roman Empire (probably a solid travel dupe to Rome, smaller scale and less touristy).
LiChing_C, Feb 2026
Roman our guide was knowledgeable and explained the history of Tarragona well . He was very helpful and professional as well.

Thanks to our guide, Eduardo, we had an absolutely fantastic day trip from Barcelona visiting Stiges and Tarragona. It's December, so the weather wasn't picture perfect Spain, but it was nonetheless filled with beauty and history and much fewer crowds than would be here during peak season. Eduardo was an absolutely fantastic guide with a great sense of humor, historical perspective and knowledge of our tour and its many fascinating sites. Highly recommended for your visit to Barcelona If you can spare a day from the City to experience the beauty that is outside of Barcelona. If you take this tour, this could be your perfect day. Highly recommended.

Stunning view along the route! The guide was super informative, friendly and knowledgeable. We came in winter time and not a lot of tourists which makes it better.
