What To Expect

Make your own way to the Colonia Guell information and visitor center to pick up your audio guide, then set out to explore the highlights of Colonia Güell and the Gaudi Crypt independently.

Stroll around the 19th-century village as you hear how it was purpose-built by Eusebi Güell to accommodate workers at his nearby textile mill. Learn how Güell commissioned modernist architects to build the estate and admire the magnificent architecture, which fuses Catalan folk architecture with modernist elements such as turrets and trencadís mosaic tiling. See the historic mill, the school, the Co-operative headquarters and the terraced worker’s houses and gardens, and take a peek at the beautiful Ca L’Espinal, the masterpiece of Joan Rubió.

After exploring the village, make your way to the star attraction – the spectacular Gaudi Crypt. Hear how the church was designed by Antoni Gaudi back in 1882 and learn how it was used by the visionary architect to trial ideas for his magnum opus – the awe-inspiring La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. Snap photos of the UNESCO-listed wonder from outside, then head inside to admire the exquisite arches, spiraling columns and two naves — built on different levels to fit the surrounding hillside.

Worth the effort

Beautiful experience. Overlooked by many as its out of town. Well worth travelling there ( 35€ in a taxi) traffic was heavy. Quaint little village. Peaceful and relaxing. Gaudís work is to beheld .

Before you go…

I was disappointed that only the chapel was open to visitors, though maybe I did not see that in the tour description. Also the audio device I had worked only about 50% of the time. The little town was very clean and walking around to see all the beautiful brick structures was fun. €30 cab ride there and back made it an expensive trip, and still glad I went.

Another Meh

This tour was only memorable because of the Gaudi crypt. It was interesting to see from where he came; in that the crypt was his first 'gig'. From there, he showed he 'had something' and went to Barcelona with so many projects he never came back to finish the project of the crypt. It is an audio tour. It is a long way off the beaten path and only worth it for the Gaudi enthusiasts, like us.

Crypt.

Straightforward service at Info Counter and then left to guide oneself with map provided and audio guide. Enjoyable low key ramble. The crypt has a magnificent ambience.

It is a self guided tour which was good however in the detail description need to specify that this tour is outside of the Barcelona city limits which means you need to take Barcelona train not Barcelona metro.
